After s1 --> Frozen Bonds --> then to s2. Funny thing is Subaru is a replica copy of himself too in a sense as he retains his memories after dying and goes back to earlier timeline. Question always remains on Subaru's ability is it totally different universe, timeline or is it only copy back to earlier point in time.

You can watch the OVA Frozen Bonds before going to season 2. Now, i just want to shout out my love for all the Voice actors in these episodes that end up doing Betelgeuse. Especially Subaru's, Yuusuke Kobayashi does an amazing job as always but he goes above and beyond on this episode

One thing to remember is that after Subaru accomplish something big he will never die suddently or reset before that moment. There is litteraly no point in killing him when he did everything right other than wasting our time, you can see that until now he is always safe after solving a major plot point.

Actually, "Mabeast" comes from "Majo", which means witch, so they are the "Witch's Beasts", as they are believed to have been created by the Witch, but that is a good way of understanding it with no previous information

One thing that makes this last scene hit even harder in the Dubbed version I think Subaru is apologizing to both of them in the background right before they kill him.

Explaining the last scene. Long story short, Julius much like the viewer was hesitant on finishing off Subaru. We were clinging to the hope that there was a way to rescue him. Since Subaru knew it was way beyond his own will at this point he then asked Felis to do it instead. Now, just like a doctor in the real world, Felis healing arts can also decimate the body from within. I don't remember exactly what Felis did, but after messing with his body it was just a matter of time before he died. Julius in regret that his hesitation had made Felis, a person who's devoted to heal, use his powers to kill someone says the last phrase before putting Subaru off his agony. "It was my lack of virtue that forced this undesirable decision on you and Felis. I'm sure I'll be punished for it one day".

The Frozen Bond movie is meant to be watched before season 2. It's actually meant to be watched right after Memory Snow, though most of it takes further in the past. Also who knows what Betty really is about, though I'm surprised you haven't made any theories regarding her mother that she mentions at the end of Memory Snow movie

About the 2nd episode's end where Felis touched subaru and he fell down screaming in pain. He basically overloaded the mana in Subaru's body which causes organ and muscle failure. Painfull way to die, that's why Julius had to put him out of his misery.

What to watch before s2? The 2nd OVA, Frozen Bonds, can be watched between s1 and s2 OR after s2. I suggest after s2 because the OVA spoils a little of the 2nd half of s2. OTOH, s2 spoils a little bit of the OVA. If you watch the OVA after s2 then your memory of the 2nd half of s2 will be fresher and you'll appreciate the OVA more. If you watch it before s2 you won't remember the OVA as well and might not appreciate the connections. It's not a big deal. 22:10 Subaru: "This couldn't possibly get any worse" Oh dear. Subaru forgot the rules of Re:zero 1. It gets worse 2. It gets SO MUCH worse. 23:54 "He can see the hand?" No, Wilhelm (and 'Julie') are just that damned good. 32:12 "No. This is awful. No matter how much of the forest I destroy, nothing changes!" I never noticed that line before That *has* to Ricardo "Wolf commander" Welkin! 55:48 Rarely have I seen such a great "shocked Pikachu" face! "What happened?" Go back to the start of episode 10. Just after Puck kills all the near-by cult members and Betelgeuse. JUST AS Subaru dies, Betelguese takes over his body and starts laughing. That was your warning. Subaru isn't a finger but he's close enough to the witch that Betelguese can use him as one. "What did Felis do?" She doesn't have damage spells so she started boiling him alive from the inside. A spell you could use for sterilizing stuff. Then, with Subaru/Guese in agony, Julius did the mercy kill.

Some stuff about this epísode, NO SPOILERS: 1) The Illusion spell was Ram's doing by mixing a hallucination thing and spreading it with her Wind Magic. 2) The Blank Letter had the symbol of Crusch's House (the lion) and was supposed to contain a letter, written by Rem (Emilia's camp representative within the Capital, remember Subaru can't write properly, so Rem was really the only one in a position to write a letter to Roswaal) about the alliance with Crusch and the Witch's Cult attack. For some reason the letter was blank instead. 3) After receiving the Blank Letter with only Crusch's Lion symbol, they assumed it was a declaration of war. Her and Emilia had an uneasy feeling, the forest was too quiet, they felt like something bad was going to happen. Emilia went to the village and tried to move the villagers to the mansion. Meanwhile, Ram used her clairvoyance to check the nearbouts of the forest and found out that there was an army of armed men coming into their direction and that Subaru was with them. That, combined with the Blank Letter, made her think that Subaru had betrayed them and joined forces with Crusch. Which is why she tried to kidnap him and called him a traitor. 4) Wilhelm was capable of dodging the Unseen Hands because there were water particles and smoke in the air. Making it possible (although extremely hard) for one to "see" the Unseen Hands. Wilhelm is the only one with fast enough reaction to use such a method, which tells you how absurdly strong he is. 5) Emilia cries after defeating Betelgeuse. This will never be explicitly explained by the anime, but keep that in mind. You might be able to connect the dots, in the future.... 6) Felix is very proud of his healing ability and all he wants to do is to save/heal people. He doesn't like to cause pain and thats why he was crying and shouting at Julius. "To use my power to do this", it really hurts him to kill someone with a power that is supposed to heal. And that only happened because Julius refused to kill Subaru, he couldn't bring himself to do it, therefore, the task fell over Felix. And thats why Julius regretted it later. His stubbornes and weakness caused great pain to Felix.

Bro is so used to use screwing with him he’s probably gonna think this is me misdirecting him again, but really. The reset is only something Subaru is aware of, Betty’s words aren’t foreshadowing, she is an OLD spirit, she’s hard to immediately understand, just keep watching, as u have seen, a lot of characters act in a certain way and we don’t even know why until WAY later, we still have so many questions about Emilia and why she acts the way she does, some of that is answered in this season and more is to come in next season, I love how complex the characters are right in the beginning, like their lives have been happening the whole time and we don’t just get certain quirks when the plot decides to go over it, these characters are the way they are throughout the whole show, not just when it’s important… and they all experience growth, gradually, like real people… I’ve fallen in love with this show all over again watching with you, it’s a new experience and appreciation every time I see this show.

Before you watch Season 2 you should definitely watch the "Frozen Bonds" OVA. It's not quite on the "required viewing" level as the Made in Abyss movie was for its second season but it's not all that far off.

SEE THIS IS WHY THE ENDING SONG MAKES SCENES INCREDIBLE Stay Alive is still my favourite ending song of all time, and thats definitely partlyd due to all the scenes it plays over Thats why we wanted you to not watch directors cut for episode 17 or the original version, the same song wouldve played over the scene with emilia dead in the forest and betelguese about to destroy her body with the hands, and puck appearing at the end When the song plays over that scene, it makes it genuinely 100x better than it is without. the music starting when the unseen hands are first revealed, and getting louder and at the climax with subaru screaming to stop, it makes the scene SO intense and emotional, especially when its EMILIAS voice actress singing. Even though you didnt see it before, i really really reccomend watching that final 2 minutes of episode 17 of the original just to see how good it was

Yes, he did, but I said Subaru will not die if he did everything right. Throughout the episode, we see him fuck up many times : not understanding how Betelgeuse ability works, not knowing there were spies in the village, not taking Emilia into account in the plan, … so clearly he did not do everything right.

I just watched the dub scene cause i could not believe what i was reading, saying the sub could top this scene, was hilarious to me And ofc, i was completely right, as always the dub was a complete failure and not even trying to replicate the original. They changed SO much dialogue, subaru isnt supposed to say kill me to felis, felis shows no emotion in his voice, doesnt seem sad or conflicted, julius is not supposed to say stop this to felis, julius's dub acting is overall plain bad, every time he says subaru its so cringe, subaru shows no pain in his scream, his Betelguese voice isnt good at all, and the constant changed dialogue ruins it even more. Ive seen this scene at least 20 times now and it gives me chills every time with how good it is. In dub i cringed at least 20 times during it instead.

I Disagree with point 5, SEASON 2 SPOILERS BELOW Emilia had no way of knowing that was betelguese, he didnt talk or behave or look anything like guese, she also made no comment on the idea of it being him, if she knew, shed have reacted far more. She looks to me like she doesnt even know why shes crying Im pretty sure shes only upset causes she killed someone, and it reminded her of the people she unintentionally kills in the OVA, and the people of the forest that she froze, as she literally froze betelguese here too Doesnt seem to have any relation to guese

Yeah, water during that scene... and later, Wilhelm is intentionally creating dust clouds to see them. Emilia sees them because she filled the air with ice and snow particles.

No, it's made very clear that the hands become visible whenever something is added to the air by where that something isn't, you can see the faint outline of them in all of these instances and nowhere else. Wilhelm worked it out with the falling water and you SEE him kick up dust on purpose in order to take the arms out again in the village. @James Perrott calm you tits, that cliffhanger wasn't in original TV version and he will anyway start season 2 in less than a week. There will be big difference in his reaction on s2 episode 1 if he know what will happen and when he doesn't. I rather he goes to that episode blind, makes for myself better reaction. episode 23 is still my favorite episode in re:zero everything was just incredible, tense, and terrifying. the Betelgeuse subaru reveal was amazing. DESU

Initially, our heroes thought that what Betelgeuse meant by "fingers" was ten groups of cultists that answer to him. They defeated a few of these groups before taking on Betelgeuse, but after Betelgeuse died, one after another more cultists started acting just like him and using his abilities. This clued in our heroes to the fact that the term "finger" refers to something more like a double leading a group of cultists. But it ultimately proved to be even more than that because, as Subaru discovered the hard way, Betelgeuse himself was somehow bouncing from body to body and ultimately tried to take control of him. This explained why none of the fingers in first couple of groups before we fought Betelgeuse had acted the way he did and given our forces any trouble. That said, there is a point of commonality between the ten cultists that Betelgeuse can control as well as Subaru. It's subtle and the anime never really explains it, but the clues are there if you pay close enough attention. He's a spirit. Betelgeuse can control people who have a strong affinity for spirits because he himself is a spirit and is basically forcing a contract onto them. And as a spirit, the only thing he fears is other spirits and spirit arts users.
