Does it get rougher? I remember this episode being the worst offender. Might be personal things which is the worst. There is a lot of sus things ahead, but after episode 8 it got less sus imo (still very sus). Haven't seen season 2 so can't talk about that.

Rudy's parents wanted her to see Rudy leave so she'd know he didn't abandon her. Slyphie was quite angry. She tried to cast battle magic and *kill* Paul during Paul and Rudy's fight. That is a spoiler for anime watchers afaik. Haven't seen the OVA but I recall people saying that this is shown in it. Order of things can be a bit different in LN vs anime.

I love that Mushoku is taking its build up more slowly, so we can get to know how the world works. I also like that there is no big "defeat the demon king"/"rescue the wolrd" plot rushed into the story like other animes tend to do. At this point we are just following this guy around in a whole new world and it is quite relaxing.

Yep, Mushoku Tensei is the kind of writting that takes its time developing its characters, unveiling its universe slowly so that it's well understood, and building its overall story. It's thanks to this that there will be moments of extreme intensity. At this point, you still have no real idea of what Mushoku Tensei is and the scope of the adventure...but next week that will begin to change.

Eris’ own character development is very interesting. Unlike Rudy, whom you get internal monologues, you have to learn how eris changes through rudeus’ eyes. This leads to some whiplash kinda, but it’s very intriguing.

Yep, stuff takes times to like and a rarity the ones that makes you love it at the first take (episode, season, release). I would understand why people thinks My Little Pony G4 is for little girls if they just watched season 1, but there's literally 10 seasons for a reason lol. And yeah, Rudeus has a lot to grow as a person yet, and is really nice to see him getting punished when caught in act or when matures from each life lesson, showing real progression and the world where he lives in.

Regarding the fast/slow approach, when you compare this to most other isekais, you'll need to keep in mind that this one was one of the first ones to popularize the genre in light novels. As such, there was no template to go by, and therefore it took it's time to set things up properly. In contrast, many of the ones that came after relied on the audience having read a bunch of previous isekais, and fast tracked things to get to their "unique" selling point. This sadly does not lead to great storytelling, and is one of the contributing factors for why there's a lot of trash isekais out there.

ok i think a lot of people does not get this part, the sub title of Mushoku Tensei is "~Giving His Best When Transferred to Another World~" BUT at this point of Rudeus life, he still not giving his best yet due to him being an neet in his pervious life, he is treating life now like play a mmo rpg. And because he can do things other cannot and he family is wealthy enough, he feel like he is playing this game( living this life) in easy mode therefore he start picking all the "joke option" eg: when waking Eris up; option 1 : tapping her face to wake her up. option 2 : throwing water on her to wake her up. option 3 : doing stupid shit like trying to remove her underwear to wake up. It will still take a few Turning Point in Rudeus life to turn him into the guy who finally give his best.

I'm pretty sure when they said they didn't need the girl, it was sarcasm. It doesn't come across well in text. Another issue I saw was when Rudius said he didn't have any childhood friends and then immediately mentioned a childhood friend. That line was changed to something else in the dub.

1 large gold asuran coin can last someone a year. Basically you are well off with it. The shop guy only tried to sell as he was from the manor. As they have a lot of money. Eris just likes being violent, it's the way she is. Ghislaine a sword king. There is very few people at the level of sword king in the world. For the rank above (emporor) there are only 5 known in the world in the style of the sword god. So having a sword king on your side is basically meaning no one will try to attack you. A sword king is obsessed with the sword so that's why they are great teachers, and why Paul was a bad teacher as he didn't have the obsession to use to be able to describe and explain how to actually do it, he just did it. Last episode the reason why they said they can do with only Rudy is because they planned to sell them as slaves to a certain high noble in asura who likes rich young nobles, he is scum, worse than Paul and rudy by far. It was cut from the anime as he wants Eris. So they would kidnap them and take them to him. The dark side of this world is deep and disturbing.

That scene is easily the worst of the show. He does learn from it though, thankfully. Only time he straight up assaults with no consent of any kind(unforgivable). Of course consent isn't really possible for a long time to come anyway.

The red-haired people being bad is wrong, the feared "superd" demons are people with green hair and a red ruby-like gem on their forehead, that's why when rudy first met sylphy he was scared for a moment at the green hair, but relaxed as he checked her forehead, so the red hair is just a normal trait, hope that helps.

Luke a pervert confirmed! The slow world building is one of my favorite aspects of Mushoku Tensei. Another show that does this well is Ascendance of a Bookwork. That show does not get the same love animation wise sadly, but the book series its based off of is my favorite book series of all time. Pure, amazing world building.

What I find funny about this is that no matter how you look at the situation, given their talk regarding what they're all paid, Eris was given WAY more for her allowance than she should have been.

It's my favorite light novel series as well. I have read quite a few of them, and it along with Spice and Wolf are by far the best written. The world building is so much more intricate than most other shows.

I support all the reccs above about Ascendance of A Bookworm, hands down, it is my favourite isekai, I like it more than Re:Zero and Mushokou Tensei. It is a very well made series, however it is slice of life, so it's a bit different from all the anime you watched to this point.

Regarding the economics you bring up, we're told in the previous episode 100 gold pieces would pay for more than 10 tuitions to the magic university. We don't know what school's cost relative to their standard of living here, but considering the world seems to operate kind of like a medieval society and even adults working in royal households like Ghislaine are illiterate, I'd assume higher education isn't cheep to come by. So safe to say 7 gold pieces for a bottle of tonic is probably a very expensive price and Eris (or rather Eris's grandfather) is loaded.

Even if education isn't accessible to the lower classes, it's not "that" expensive either. You have to bear in mind that this is a world where many people have no use for education, or don't see the point. Eris is no exception. And Ghislaine is another example: it's not a question of money if she's only getting an education now. And yes, a gold coin has great value. Ghislaine earns 2 gold coins a month (room and board). She's a swordswoman of "Sword King" rank, which is very high and very rare in swordsmanship... and therefore highly valued.

A great strength of MT is that there are many stories happening in the world and you get to see some of them through Rudeus story. Rudeus's story is only a part of the greater story of the world not the central most important event like many other stories, although it is important. Bookworm is also great at building it's world but i don't know if it will get adapted to completion unfortunately.

I think it's the green hair that was the dangerous color because of a certain demon race's hair color. Right now Eris is kind of a violent brat. She shouts whenever she talks, it seems like her family spoils her. A couple details I forgot is that Eris is a cousin to Rudeus and that the greyrat family is nobility. Meaning fights over lineage among other familial matters. A weird thing I keep thinking is how Luke gets so distracted by big boobs that there have been times he has missed subtitles before. Idk man, I just treat it as normal or if I admire it, I give it a glance and go about my day. Can't say I've ever been bothered or distracted by those things. Am I the weird one or Luke? Just a question from my curiosity, not a personal attack.

Here's a reference from the Currency in the Asura Kingdom(the kingdom they are currently in) Asura Gold Coin (100,000 yen = 1,000 USD) Asura Silver Coin (10,000 yen = 100 USD) Asura Large Copper Coin (1,000 yen = 10 USD) Asura Copper Coin = (100 yen = 1 USD) This is only a 'rough' outline - since prices are far different within that world for commodities. 1 Gold Coin can last an average family in a small village a year.

To explain about the Greyrat thing(it is never explained in the anime, only in the novel around this chapter), Nobles of the family may try to cause a rebellion/coup in Rudeus name as their "Leader" if they knew of his prowess. To take over the family or what not , typical filthy noble stuff . Rudeus just doesn't have any talent with the sword, he does get better tho but is never above average. Magic is more his thing. As for why did the guy at the market place wanted to sell the aphrodisiac to rudeus, it's because he was well dressed in noble clothes and even told him that he was from the mansion. Greyrat are infamous for being perverts/womanizer and aphrodisiac are expensive. Just keep the info in the back of your mind about that potion. Many people mention about the hair color so i won't talk about it i'm glad you spoke up about the comment section even thou it's on patreon. The Greyrat family are Nobility. Paul left that behind. Remember in a prior episode when Paul hit rudy before asking what he did wrong. Paul said he reverted to what his dad did and Rudy was telling him the same thing he would do that Paul did (Paul left n didn’t keep his house name, only Greyrat family name)

You've got it backwards. It's not Rudeus that is bad at swordplay. He is actually well above average for this world. The problem is who we are measuring him against. We have only ever seen him compared to a handful of others. Eris is a significantly talented fighter and several years older, which gives her a significant size and strength advantage at their young age. Paul is a former S-Rank adventurer. Ghislaine was in that same party and is hailed as a "Sword King" which is a system following the same basic structure as the Magic system with "King" being the third highest rank and the top 2 ranks being mythical hero territory. "Sword King" would be comparable to MMA weightclass world champion in terms of how prestigious and contested that status is. Ghislaine is a BOSS. The kidnappers who Rudeus had severe difficulty against severely outnumbered him and were led by a "Sword Saint" who is only 1 step down that ranking. He was no slouch. Rudeus is not particularly gifted at swordplay, but he is by no means a pushover.

My understanding is that the 2 silver each month is spending money, and there is a separate rate/lump sum after 5 years that will cover the cost of Sylphiette going to the school. I could be wrong, but Rudeus does not seem to be scrimping to reduce his own living expenses.

depends on the country and time, when I attended uni for 3 years about a decade ago in my country, it cost just under £10000. Since then, a government leadership change tripled the cost to the student but at the time this LN was written, that was well within an acceptable price range (excluding America that overcharges like crazy for education)
