WHO IS SHE??????

Here is the FULL PATREON EXCLUSIVE reaction to Mushoku Tensei Episode 5!!!

Enjoy!!!

Comments

FaerieRose

I’m bowing out on this one after running into spoilers for the most recent episodes, and creator comments regarding said spoilers. All I can say is, Rudy does NOT become a good person.

nikum

Good bye person who doesn't understand a thing about what they watch.

SkyMina

"Bang everybody" ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

pur3

So you made your opinion on something you haven't seen, that the viewers are supposed to interpret themselves, and a mistranslated tweet. Banger. Take care elsewhere.

mjaomjao2

Don't let the good intentions trick you into thinking Paul was doing something right by sending Rudy away. I've seen a psychologist react to this show and apparently doing that is an awful idea that will cause lasting trauma.

pur3

Vol8-10 spoilers That's fair if you feel like that, Rudeus literally refers to it as adopting later on, if you think he is just delusional then that's fine, since they still give her tasks from time to time, but in general she can choose what she wants to do, even when it comes to her education etc.

_TKD_

I'm so happy to hear you enjoying this. From my experience, people who are on the fence but end up enjoying it usually have their mind changed either with this episode or episode 8. You'll know why, look forward to it :)

andarotajo

I think Rudy means "Visual Novels" when he mentioned VN's, a game type/genre

Victoria Pritchard

Rudius developes from scum pervert to pervert with a heart of gold, red hair usually means high energy, spicy personality and sometimes being a delinquent.

Daniel V

VN=visual novel=eroge=18+

Yami Youssouf

vn is a visual novel dw about that luke

SkyMina

I think you remember about the green(as evil) colored hair of a demon races , also why sylphy get bullied cause of her hair color.

Suichoku

Yay the best girl character. At start she can be annoying and typical tsundere, but she really grows on you (at least for me). Spicy badass redhead.

nikum

Yes and no, he's thought more about Paul and his actions, especially the ones later on, after reading some LN chapters we gave him, let's say it's ... complicated, like everything in MT.

Arctic

And now you have met all three main Heroines for the story. All three are cliche's and archetypal, but they shine the best aspects of each.

mjaomjao2

VNs aka Visual Novels are video games that are mostly just reading. They can have some gameplay elements as well but the main focus is on the story. For example Steins;Gate started as a VN and was then turned into an anime.

_TKD_

When Rudy says "Money can't buy 'dere'!", the word 'dere' refers to various love interest archetypes in anime and games. I believe the three most well known ones are. 1. Tsundere, often being loud, prideful and/or violent, not good at expressing their feelings, but nice and protective over their partner when they've gotten that close to someone. You've heard of this one if I remember correctly. Eris fits as a Tsundere. 2. Yandere, being obsessive psychopaths who are willing to do almost anything, even literally murder the competition, to get with the one they're in love with, even against that persons wishes. Sometimes even going so far as to kill their love interest if their feelings aren't returned. Usually not what you want obviously, but being hard to spot sometimes, they're often a love interest anyways untill they cross those boundaries. 3. Kuudere, being the nice and quiet type that usually don't stand out much in a crowd. I believe both Sylphie and Roxy fit as Kuudere

Misteryk

Just for context about how strong Ghyslaine is, there is a single digit number of people that have king rank and above in Sword God Style in the world

TromboneSpartan

Unfortunately the next 3 episodes will have uncomfortable things but after that the anime will reward you.

Ethannex

VN is a popular game genre, especially in Japan. It's usually a story with voice acting, music, art, and many choices/routes to take (choose your own adventure). Some of the most popular VNs even get adapted to anime. Steins Gate and Clannad both started as a Visual Novel (VN). The music and voice actors in the anime came from the Visual Novel first. VNs even have their own OPs with unique songs as well. One of the reasons I really love VNs like Steins Gate and Clannad is to see different endings to the story. The anime usually only adapts one ending when there are several in the VN.

Nethzil

So the big Episodes are upon us, will he drop it ? will he toughen up his skin ? Will he still enjoy it ?! I hope so !

Nethzil

They will truly test his mettle, but I am confident that he will toughen up.

Madlen Stauffer

Eris is a so called "Tsundere" they are very pridefull and won't admit if they like someone. It's a stereotype in anime, with some oder "-dere's".

Sanguor

"A visual novel (VN) is a video game genre that tells an interactive story primarily through text. They usually feature static character models and locations, and while they might have some animated cutscenes, these are typically short (if present at all)". Steins;Gate or Clannad (❤️) were adapted from visual novels. In Rudy's case, when he mentions VN, he is probably talking about dating simulations with or without 18+ content. A word you can also encounter is Eroge which is a japanese contraction for Erotic Game.

Jacob

yeah it confused me the first time i saw this episode but I think the big dude heard Rudy's idea to fake kidnap Eris to teach her the value of studying and used it as an opportunity to real kidnap her because I assume she treats her staff like shit.

Burezu

I think they could "make do with the boy alone" was because the servant guy heard that he was part of the Greyrat family as well and nobility fetches a high price, plus he knew Rudeus was good enough in magic, reading and maths to be useful to anybody. Also haven't rewatched it in a while so it first appeared to me why Rudeus was so shocked by seing the beheaded man. I first thought he was just scared by death like a normal person would be, but it could also be because they died because of his fuck up. In his normal plan there probably wasn't any need for death, but because he fucked up this whole gang died brutally (even if it was deserved).

reesespieces342

i have to go to driver's ed so i can't watch rn. sad i have to wait but oh well

Arctic

Red hair is normal. Green hair is the bad color

_TKD_

If you're thinking of the dangerous demon race, the superd, it was green hair and red gem on the forehead, not red hair, though the mixup is understandable on first watch.

Arctic

A VN is short for Visual Novel. Basically its just a longer form of Anime but in a gamelike format. There are usually scrolling text, several choices to make that influence the story, and character sprites and background rather than full on animation. Fate Stay/Night is an excellent example of a Visual novel that also has an Anime. In Fate Stay/Night there are three different story paths to go down and all three of them make up the whole Visual Novel.

Muligan Shinzuo

Rudeus is a pervert and lived a very questionable life but i do not see him as bad as a character as some other (i mean look at his dad). Hair color sometimes can denote peronality traits, in this case red hair denotes "headstrong, powerful, and feisty". Not every anime follows such conventions but you probably picked up that some hair colors come with certain chracteristics.Example: Pink is mostly used for cute and innocent characters (Shuna from Reincarnated as Slime).

GTB

The first part is correct. The second part is not. Visual Novels doesn't necessarily mean erotica, far from it.

Suichoku

Probably a better example for him is Steins;Gate. People did point out that it is based on VN, but mostly used the word "game". Luke might have learned the term visual novel then, but probably didn't recognise the abbreviation.

Flutter0Shy

Oh yes, the moment where we are "She's here!" A second before the two heads explodes into nothing and we stay processing then like the show more because of what it can bring in a future without a skip, prob

Suichoku

Especially with the red gem, maybe that is the reason why he mixed green and red. He remembered the color of the gem (but not sure if it was told that it is a red gem or just a gem)

Kot Bajun

Biggest takeaway from this episode is that Rudeus has faced death up close once again when Ghislaine killed the kidnapper(s). He questions what would really happen if he did die again. It also shows slow progression of Eris as a character and her relationship with Rudy. Honestly I hated her guts at the start of the show, but the series is known for all main characters’ progression. So grateful for that haha.

Frentzy

takes her an entire season to become a good character

Kot Bajun

Also, let’s enjoy a zero cgi fights for the remainder of the show. That takes determination of the whole studio. Will and remains as one of the features of the series. It’s glorious :]

Timothy Munk

The branches of the Greyrat family call each other Cousin, but they do not say Eris grandfather is brothers with Rudy grandfather. It's more likely that they're even more separate than 2nd cousins

Daniel V

You are wrong, sorry buddy. Not all visual novels are 18+ yes,but most of them are.And that is how its accepted to be called visual novel or eroge=erotic games.I mean the biggest site for information on eroges is called Visual novel data base or VNDB.

BRUNO Marques

He does. S2 is still him as an early teen. Nobles buying slaves is common in this world... All the maids are slaves in this ep.

Keith Merrington

That's a shame, there's much to enjoy even if you can't stand Rudeus. It's a show of many characters and many of them are very likable. To me, Rudy is just a person, with flaws from his past life. He's never actually maliciously harmed anyone though and he's done some good so far (saved 3 people at the start, helped Sylphy, and saved Eris in this episode). I think the good side of his character outweighs the bad side (by far - given what's to come). I have been disappointed by some of his actions, but overall he's definitely one of the good guys.

Keith Merrington

@BRUNO Marques - all the maids are slaves? Really? I know Ghislaine gets paid, and so I assumed did everyone working for the Greyrats.

Keith Merrington

I think this is the first point where it really dawns on Rudy that this world is real and so are the people in it. It's not just some game, and he and others can suffer and die.

Maltheus

I think Rudy actually says "Money can't buy waifus!" in the dub, which would probably be more understandable for people who are less invested in these types of animanga-specific character archetypes (people like Luke basically), since pretty much everyone who has been online enough are familiar with the term 'waifu' so I don't really know why Crunchyroll decided to use such a specific term in the subs.

GTB

@FaerieRose> First of all, "good person" has no meaning in Mushoku Tensei. Secondly, the slave you're talking about is neither bought nor enslaved by Rudeus. Once extirpated from her condition, Rudeus will teach her incantation-less magic and instruct her. And supervises her well-being. What a horrible character in a world where slavery exists. If you don't like stories set in worlds where slavery exists, I wouldn't recommend Gladiator. I'm not going to say anything about your morality. Again, for some people, there seems to be a lot that is morally wrong in Mushoku Tensei...but killing is never even a topic. Saving and caring of a slave is questionable, killing is not a problem. Typical "good person" thinking there...

Keith Merrington

@FaerieRose - Re slavery. The 2nd season episode you are referring to made me very disappointed in Rudy at first. Then I read a very well written article on why Rudy doesn't actively oppose it. Also, in that episode Rudy almost certainly saves the life of the slave. Anyway the article (WARNING - CONTAINS SPOILERS) is here if you want to read it. https://www.reddit.com/r/mushokutensei/comments/pj1wrh/useful_notes_slavery_wn_8_ln_9_manga_ch_58/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3

Pandawan

VN is for Visual Novel i believe. Also red hair isnt bad in this universe, its green haired demons with Red gem on their forehead. Someone probably already mentioned it but there is a lot of comments here and im lazy to read them so just to be sure :D

kloos

Great reaction as always, EP from 6 to 8 are the most controversial ones, the ones that demonstrate that Rudy makes mistakes despite the grown he has shown. Also, do not forget that the rules and morals of that world are different from ours, you will see that in different aspects of the show

Darian Torres

Still have a ways to go for the character , but I love the ups & downs with Rudy . It’s really almost like he started in the negatives & not zero because he has so many bad habits & traumatic experiences so it is going to be great to see where his character ends when the show is said & done .

Suichoku

Your comment just states that VN = eroge, not all VN are eroge. VN is a parent genre for eroge in this case.

ArtKi

7:59 The look on all four of their faces! 21:48 Sword Kings DO NOT MESS AROUND. 27:20 "started at Zero" that's the next series!

ArtKi

It's save to assume that *all* of the VNs Rudy played were eroge.

reesespieces342

ghislaine is love, ghislaine is life 🙏🙏

FinalMasterM

The biggest issue with translating currently is no single company follows a set guideline for specific terms, this being sub/dub by funimation is proof enough of that. They will sub terms like loli/shota into peodphile, for example, in one series, but then in another leave them be (much like in MT when Rudy refers to Roxy as a loli and mentions shotacons being all over Sylph). And the example you gave where they left it dere in the sub here, but say waifu in the dub.

Matthew Williams

VN is short hand for Visual Novel. They are games that are as the name suggests a novel with images, the closest comparison the could be made are "Chose your own adventure" games that were popular in the 90's. In VNs usually dating types how you respond in the list of usually 3 or 4 pre-written will effect how whichever love interest the MC is talking to raising a "love meter" allowing the player to romance the girl. By the way Steins:Gate was a Visual Novel, as such in a VN game like that your choices like in a chose your own adventure game bad choices will lead to bad endings. With every VN there are usually a multitude of bad endings, good endings, and even secret endings. With the dating ones they're usually which female protagonist the MC ends up with, with the "secret end" usually being the Harem route ending up with all the girls. Many of these are R-17 Japans mature rating.

FinalMasterM

Some more random anime facts for you. Many anime are based on some material, manga, light novels and visual novels being the most prominent. Very few anime are made based on entirely new concepts and are often created by individual studios who hope to market merchandise off them. Manga, self explanatory, are the graphic novels created by a person (or team) that get adapted. Death Note and FMB are such series. Light Novels (LN) are just straight up books, very little artwork outside of maybe chapter/arc titles and assorted other places. These may sometimes be adapted into manga. Mushoku Tensei is an LV. Visual Novels (VN) are games that are heavy in text, almost always with static images (maybe some animation), music, and most importantly often having different paths (routes) and outcomes depending on the choices you make while playing them. Steins;gate is an anime you have watched based on a VN.

FinalMasterM

As for series that don't have previous works to go off, Violet Evergarden is such a series as well as your brother's beloved Kill la Kill.

Tatersalad666

Its green hair with a red gem on the forhead, not red that is bad. That is why Sylphie was being bullied. Yes the fights in this show are epic. The animators really went all out to make them look amazing. One in particular later in this season is really something special, so you have a lot to look forward to.

GTB

If you only knew how special it is to watch again the first meeting between these two. You will. This is how well-written the characters are. But before that, if I remember correctly, the next episode will be a bit disturbing for you...

Chrono 1002

VN is visual novel. It's basically a type of game with japanese styled (anime) characters with lots of text (many times about conquering heroines). The affection point is also a reference to this. Btw, Ghislaine is op. She is in the same class as Roxy after leveling up, just not in magic, but swordsmanship.

Obscuremango

Ghislaine used a technique only used by sword saints and above. It's called the longsword of light. You move your sword forward with such momentum you will have the sword move faster than the speed of light. And those colours we saw after the attack is theoretically what the human eye would see if something were to move that fast past us. Basically the longsword of light is the skill any swordman in the school of sword god style (attack first) wants to achieve. Paul can not do this and so he is at the advanced stage.

Harley Burnie

VN - visual novel, a video game where a story is played out by choosing actions and dialog from a selection in interactions with NPCs, usually leading towards "Good" or "Bad" endings. Usually many different endings effects tes by the various choices made throughout the gameplay. Many of them are adult af, practically hentai is many cases.

Nathan McCabe

Please brace. Next episode is kind of a lot. It has good, and cringe, and cheekiness.

Rugo

Some people explained what a VN is, but yeah essentially its a visual novel, almost like a book thats a game that you play where you make the decisions and it has pictures or sometimes videos or gifs in them, but something you might find interesting is that steins gate and steins gate 0 were both originally VNs, thats why theres was a whole argument if you should watch the movies or not because they were technically not canon VN wise, but many people argue they are canon anime wise

Andy Hinton

I believe they were going to sell Rudeus and Eris to the black market/slave auctions. So that's why they said they could just sell Rudeus because he can use magic, read and write etc. Eris just has her looks currently.

Mli

Yeah, but mushoku tensei is not a VN btw, it's a LN

Mli

Yeah, but mushoku tensei is not a VN btw, it's a LN

kazadori164 .

if you like the world-building, DONT skip the intro music, there's world-building going on during it, unlike most anime the visuals never repeat and give more context to the places the charters are at in the current episode.

Suichoku

Hopefully he manages to go through it and doesn't drop the show. This show makes me a bit nervous, that he would drop it halfway through.

Robert Franklin

There are some special fights ahead although few and far between. There are definitely some special scenes I cant wait to see you react too. I'll be epic. This is all just a warmup.

Mihaly Szamak

VNs are visual novels. They are dialogue heavy games centered around a story with branching paths. They were the majority of PC titles released in Japan up until the 2010s. They can have many themes but the most prominent titles have adult aspects. One of the largest mixed media giants FATE was once a adult VN with very graphic scenes.

No One Important

Bro you have no idea the fights that happen later will blow your mind unlike anything you’ve seen before

Matthew Williams

Um, OP didn't mention anything about Mushoku Tensei being a VN. Why are you responding like they had? Luke clearly asked about what VNs are and this is obviously an answer to that question.

Matthew Williams

Yes every single beastwoman wearing a "maid outfit" is in fact a person purchased through the slave trade by lord Sauros. The reason they don't seem miserable is that they are treated well. But make no mistake they are still very much slaves, lord Sauros even regularly uses them for sexual relief. Ghislane isn't a maid she is a sword instructor and bodyguard.

Matthew Williams

Never said it was old chum, Luke did on the other hand ask what VN's was very clearly while watching this episode. Considering the dozens of VN references and inside jokes Rudeus had made in these past episodes him actually mentioning VN's themselves shouldn't be a surprise to anyone.

Nathan McCabe

Gosh, I hope he keeps going through S2. I'm sure the training and op abilities Rudeas and his friends gain in the second cour are something he'd love. Also, the animation paired with sound truly makes you sit at the edge of your seat during some of the higher-stakes scenes.

Nathan McCabe

I also can't wait for his reaction to Man-God, or a certain blessed individual, let alone the adventuring party Paul and his wife were in. That'll be hilarious.

Mr. Dog

also in Mushoku Tensei Rudeus uses the term "eroge" which means erotic game in Japanese. It's just the porn version of a visual novel. The subtitles censored the term.

Mr. Dog

A visual novel based on dating aspect i called Galge and an adult themed galge is referred to as an eroge or Erotic game/Erotic Visual Novel.

Emilis2023

I love the detail of how Rudeus looks like he's about to have a panic attack over seeing the decapitated body in front of him, but Eris just completely brushes it off and goes to greet Ghislane. She may be a completely spoiled brat right now, but Rudy has been extremely sheltered living in his home with Paul protecting that village his first seven years. Eris brushing it off so easily hints that most the world he's in now is far more violent and brutal than what he was able to grow up with.

Chris Gama

Ghislane is such a bad-ass! Ahh I love her so much! The animation style they used in this episode when she did that move was such a visual treat!

Tsusaku Cohenat

The thing about Eris is, there is an ugly fat very big (as in he is in a very high position, i think he is a minister of a kingdom) noble, who got liking to small children and when he seen Eris at one of the balls her granddad did have, he "loved" her at a first sight and wanted her granddad to give her to him as a bride. He opposed, because he knew that mans inklings. Then that man did hired the 2 goons to kidnap her (they get together with the servant) and they wanted to kidnap her. She would end as an sex slave for that noble, and after she would get a bit older and was not in the age he liked, she would be disposed off. Its actually a thing that the nobles of that kingdom are all depraved in some way. Rudeus father, is very into woman, the Eris family is very into animal demihumans (thats why there are so many of the animal ears servants), that fat ugly noble is a sadistic pederast and more.

Tsusaku Cohenat

You can actually see that ugly man in the special episode thats positioned just before the second season.

Roy Meulblok

I hope you will go watch Ranking of Kings. The reason I'm bringing that up is because the ending song of this show reminds me of Ranking of King's opening song xd.

Guilherme Vergne

VN = Visual Novel (but he actually said eroge-erotic games)

KDaBHoo

She also has her status, but yeah. They could make due with a child slave with the kinda skills Rudy has..... Damn, the world of this show is pretty messed up. I mean, I've see worse, but when I write this it really starts to show me what this world is like.

KDaBHoo

Damn, I assume this is info the anime left out that is in the LN. I plan to read it sometime, but it sounds pretty disturbing. Though my English teacher gave me quite a few disturbing books to read. No matter how many disturbing stories I read/watch, I always end up surprised for some reason. Maybe that's a good thing though. That's most likely what the author wants us to feel.

Beowolf Chow

The purpose of art is to make you feel something. Positive and negative feelings, are both part of good art.

Chyro Nighthowler

Minor correction, they do eventually repeat. In the most recent season they stop doing the unique-visuals opening and use a standard opening for most episodes so far.

Marc Lucksch

I like to believe that the ringing in his ear is literally from Ghislaine going past the speed of sound and producing a sonic boom.

Szadek96

Ghislain's entrance was clean, but it made one hell of a mess

RudeusGrey4t

VN means "Visual Novel" and it's allegedly a type of video game. Far more accurately, it's a novel in slide-show format with very, very occasional branching path options.

HGK

Rudeus really forgot that he can die.
