Not about the reaction itself but more about the comment on Twitch about horror animes and Dark Gathering, I've heard that usually horror animes are not that great, but Dark Gathering (it is a new anime show with only five episodes in) is really good so far in my opinion. They actually nailed the horror genre (there is no jumpscare, but there is some unsettling scenes that are actually creepy and I actually applause the creators of the manga and the studio adapting it because they are doing a good job so far).

86 is adapted from the light novels of the same name. There are currently 12 Light Novels. The anime only covers three of those novels, so there is plenty of content that could be covered in future seasons if we ever get them.

This anime was so good, I rarely get the emptiness feeling you get after finishing a good show or book but this gave me that. I can’t wait for you to finish it as well.

Personally 86 was good, not great. But i must admit i enjoy it more as a reacting. Maybe because some animes are just better watching in company with others :) When it won the vote i was dissapointed, but after this stream, i am excited to join this journey with you all :D

The topic of beginner anime is hard, since its very subjective. I have always thought a beginner anime needed a conclusion, but Attack on Titan is a good beginner anime in my mind. Now Luke have watch alot of Isekai, so in my oppenion Mushoku Tensai is a good pick at this time ( i am kinda biased about Mushoku Tensai since i love it xD) So in conclusion you could divide up what we would call a beginner anime. Should it be by popularity? By finished? or maybe into genres? Its not an easy answer :)

I'd say a beginner anime is something that would have mass appeal. Ask yourself if you would show the series to a random person on the street, how confident are you that they would also think its cool? If they have to be primed or you have to explain away the overt sexual fetishes or screeching VAs or 'power of friendship' plot lines then its probably not beginner friendly lol. That's all stuff you've been desensitized to but will likely make normal people just disinterested.

You have a good point, but the answer is still very subjective :) i think many ppl in the anime community would agree to Fullmetal Alchemist is a good beginner anime, but for that beginner, is it the right genre? At most we can generalize and go for top 15 on animeplanet website, and all of them are top tier anime. but does that make them beginner anime? Its a very interesting topic. I am beginning to think you need to analize the person first to pick a good beginner anime. Forexamble lets take Luke. In the 9 month i have watch him, 2 things have stuck out to me. 1: he wish to watch Sword Art Online because its his brothers faurite anime. Is SAO a good beginner anime? well it was my beginner anime and i loved it! but with the experience with anime i have now, i am not sure. 2: Luke loves Horror, and i am not sure why, buy summertime rendering and parasyte was my first thought, and maybe thet would have had been better beginner animes for Luke :) I wish when there was votes, ppl would think more about what Luke would enjoy, since we all love to react to him and join him :) Sorry i wrote so much xD i enjoy topics like this xD

It sucks it's not completed bc there is much to know :(( but I can't spoil, people should definitely check out the books ! Book 12 is almost here and I'm more than excited

It's very strange that this anime is not popular, maybe if the main character was reborn from another world, everyone would praise it as genius

Luke, if you end up enjoying the series, I recommend checking ctrlaltQQ's 86 videos when you finish the 2 cours, even if it is on your own time. Really worth it to catch some details you might miss or add some context to the series as a whole.

I think it's because the title is too short and that it has the mech tag. Like "86"? What's that supposed to mean? And the mech tag has a lot of prejudice against it. It also might be due to what happens later in the show, idk I'm watching this blind.

I usually dislike mechs anime, but 86 are the few that i actually enjoy watching throughout. Was even tempted to buy the LN to read but i'll give it another year or so. Have a feeling it might just end up like NGNL & all the other series that don't get a second season thou

2:23:04 If you rewatch 86 really looking, you'll see SO damned many visual metaphors and such like this, the muralist sword hanging over Theo's head. This kind of shot is rampant throughout the series. Once you get to the end, I've got a super cool parallel to suggest to you. The video essays about the art directing of 86 on YouTube have been stunning. That mural, more than anything, gets to have special fucked up imagery.

For me, its a matter of it was tagged as mech and the only 'mech' anime I ever got through fully was Heroic Age (which also isnt really a mech anime). Ironically, this is giving me similar vibes to that for some reason, so i actually might watch it all the way through.

I have not read the LNs, but I hope that someday we'll have a complete adaptation of it. At least, the finale that we have now doesn't end on a cliffhanger or a promess of more to come, like NGNL.

Im a bit confused, im usually not watching his streams, but i apparently visited the voting of the next Animes to watch last time. And next to NGNL wasnt it Eminence in Shadow that won? And this here pretty much lost in round 1? Not that im against it, im just wondering, and if he explains it before starting the first episode...i rly have no interest in watching the first 38 minutes before that xD

Same, I wouldn't have watched it if my friend hadn't already gotten me hooked on the LN's. Only other mech anime I enjoyed was Code Geass, but that was also the very first anime I ever watched.

He has a Saturday and a Sunday slot for Twitch watchalongs. NGNL and Eminence in Shadow were for the Saturday slot. 86 was voted in for the Sunday slot.

FYI for Luke: It looks like part of this video was muted so I am guessing you pulled this from the Twitch VOD? Your recording software should be able to make a simultaneous recording on your computer while you stream. OBS has that feature for example. So you can make your own downloads without having to rely on Twitch muting your VODs.

The Legion when they kill a person they scan their brains to turn them into A.I soilder mech zombies basically. So ya if they were to get a full intact one they could power their factory base by so much more then what it's is now. The war would be over in a heart beat.

I was so excited when I saw that you were reacting to 86 🥹 this is definitely one of my absolute favorite anime and it’s pretty underrated and usually flies under the radar. I think when it first came out there was another extremely famous and popular anime that was also releasing episodes and so it didn’t get the attention it deserved (or so I heard) so I’m so happy that you’re watching it because it’s amazing and the more people watch it, the more likely it is to get another season!

I'm glad you are kinda binge watching this one on twitch ! We can clearly see the difference with other animes for which you can only watch one or two episodes a week, You did great keeping a track on everything during those 5 episodes ! This would have been the best way to watch MiA season 2 ! :)

Hello, new here! Not sure if the one who said on stream that it makes no sense for him to hear the legions and called it bad writing can read this but.. remember this is a light novel not everything is explained right now. I'm on volume 10 and it makes sense with more context all is needed is to remember this is an actual finished novel so plot points are set up from earlier volumes and pay-off can be later down the road like with any form of storytelling

Well, the truth is every anime studio/company is obligated by law to insert at least 1 beach-like episode or scene in a season. Otherwise Sanji, Master Muten and Mineta will come to your house at midnight and beat your ass.

Just finished watching,took a bit cause I do episode by episode to better focus, maybe I catch up, maybe not. No matter what, Eighty-Six is my favourite modern anime, with Bocchi the Rock (all time is NGE). This also brought me here, so this was my first watch on the site. So thanks, I guess.. No, really , I very much enjoyed the stream, on to the next. Also, THE ANSWER is my fav song here and would have been my choice in any vote, it was the first battle song , ep 2, and is, like, the most forward moving song of the OST. But it’s hard if everything is so good. Same singer as Hand Up in the Sky and there is a studio version of the video that has all the energy. And Sawano plays piano. Thank you again.

"No one in the anime community gives a f*ck about horror." Well, not quite true. It depends. Gratuitous body horror? It's not scary when it's animated, so no one cares. Psychological horror? A bit more niche audience, but a masterpiece when done right. Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni (When Cicadas Cry) is probably the best I've seen to date. Or Re: Zero. Re: Zero is partly a horror anime, and it does a pretty solid job of it.

I pretty late for the party here. only just recently joined here and satrted following luke, but just noticed the vod is muted from 2:24:00 to 2:27:00. so around 3 minutes for some reason. didn't see any comments about it. so thought it point that out so it dosent come out as surprise to others.
