I feel like the "irredeemable" part is that Lyza gave such a burden to Ozen, because now she cares for Riko and Reg.

Zagrom Field

This week was great. But I'm really looking forward to next week :3

Raeven

God I love Ozen, she's so darn cool

Daniel Griffiths

unto the next layer.... this will be fun :D

Vincenzo

I like the fact that you try to analyze the characters, and I hope you will continue to do so, especially while watching the third film! I look forward to your impressions especially during the film.

Eggicus Roundplumpius

Hoh boy, next week being episode 9 and 10 are going to be interesting. With regards to Ozen, though, she is probably my favourite of the White Whistles despite what others might say. She's so brutally interesting, and her costume is fucking awesome. Also, what you said about Reg being the main character I feel is sorta true. His story is clearly quite sad, not knowing anything about himself and having to say goodbye to so many of the friends he makes along the way just to continue forward on his journey. Although we're technically heading for Lyza, it would seem, we are following a story that more actively develops on Reg's side. Given that the Manga hasn't developed much more than 3 episodes worth of content beyond the end of season 2, I myself am very anxious for anything more to develop about Reg and what he is and where he came from. Finally, the matter of time within the Abyss. I find it really interesting how there is a time dilation mechanic the deeper you go, and it's probably an important clue to what the abyss actually is. I'm curious what other people's thoughts are on that.

AnimeCenter

I'm so excited for next week :)

Anonymous

Well there were 13 episodes right. If you finished the anime ss1 you will watch movie on that week too right?

Dersimcan Bulut

Ey man I really enjoy your reactions I came to patreon because of Made in Abyss, one of my all time favorits. The Adventure begins now from now on please wear your seatbelts and enjoy the brutal adventure!!!!!

Animeter

next week will be madness

Zagrom Field

The 13th episode is over 45 mins long, so he might do a 2 parter? I have no idea what he'll decide to do, but a 45 min episode followed by a 1 hour 45 min movie might not fall into how he wants to schedule releases. Time will tell.

The Jojojo09

You can go down to the 6th layer and send a message from there to the higher layers. For example, you can send a balloon up. But you as a person can't return alive.

mjaomjao2

It's not that nobody has been down there it's just that the curse makes them unable to return. They can still send messages back with the balloons and stuff.

Touhou RS

1 week to go :)

Lex

Every white whistle get their name from achievements, Lyza is called "The Annihilator" is just because she's the most ruthless and the huge amount of killing, mostly their competitors which are those poor foreign cave raiders then eventually being feared and hated by other countries.

AnimeCenter

My theory is that she got her name from what she did when the foreign cave riders killed Torka

David Rodriguez

Next week is going to be amazing, I can't wait to see your reaction to the 10th episode.

Anonymous

As a white whistle, Lyza's seen an innumerable amount of beauty and horror along her adventures in the abyss. Just along our short journey with Reg and Riko, we're getting a slice of what Lyza would have experienced on her own journey. And It seems like even after all of that, she doesn't regret her decisions to explore it. And although she probably wouldn't wish the horrible parts of the journey on anyone else (especially her daughter), she also wouldn't want to take away the chance of experiencing the beautiful parts either. I feel like this is half the reason why she decided to leave on her final dive, rather than stay on the surface to help raise Riko. She doesn't want to have the choice of trying to protect her daughter from setting out on her own adventures, wherever that leads her.

Anonymous

I think the other half of the reason she heads down for her final dive is probably something many parents would understand. Before being a parent, you probably had your own hopes and dreams; things you wanted to accomplish and see in life. Having a child really does put a lot of those things on the back burner, perhaps never to be fulfilled. That's just the trade one makes once they have kids and I think the best parents are able to accept that and either readjust their priorities or find a good middle ground. But even if you do that, no matter how much you love your children, there's still that deep, hidden longing for those old dreams. Although Lyza says she's heading down so she doesn't stop Riko from some day heading on her own beautiful, painful adventure, it also happens to align perfectly with Lyza's dream of continuing her own adventure and finally seeing the bottom of the abyss.

Rimtia Crowing

I'm excited to see the 5th layer too!!! Can't wait!!!

Michał Jastrzębski

Oh dont you worry about meeting other white whistles, you will indeed meet them. Its going to be subarashi.

James Perrott

Please dont suggest splitting the finale or movie in 2, he should finish season 1 on the friday, then he can do a reaction to the opening and ending on the saturday, then the movie the next week

James Perrott

or that she simply loved killing the creatures? they never say she kills people

Sebastian Stróż

Next week gonna be nice. All that comfy vibes :)

James Perrott

Oh boy I am so ready, yet also not ready for next week, here we go

Zagrom Field

Im not really suggesting he do that. Im saying Idk what he's going to do, but that these are possible things that might occur. We can't know what he's going to do until he tells us or releases them. Idk how busy his days are, so how much time he has to record or wherever may lead him having to split things up if he has one day to record and 2 and a half hours of content. Thats all I was trying to point out; don't be surprised IF it happens, and don't demand he has to release 2 long recording back to back. I'd rather have them full length back to back, but I also understand if they aren't. And I see you are talking about an op and ed reaction video. I have no idea on when that might happen. And Im only pointing it out to acknowledge that I know that what you are saying is season one, op/ed, THEN movie and Im talking about season 1 and then straight to the movie. I get those are different timelines. We'll see.

Regular Grayzone

He did use his a big piece of wood to pull on his arm so they would go tight and lift that hippo thing. He is quite sturdy, but I don't know how strong he is, because in this case he didn't lift it with his own strength alone

GTB

Characters are really interesting and complex in Made In Abyss...we are beyond just good/bad. You have to understand who they are and what they are looking for. Like Ozen, none of them are really what you think they are at first. All of them have many...layers. I love all the characters in Made in Abyss, but 2 stand out to me: a memorable antagonist, and you know...sosu (this character is perfection). Next week, we go deeper. Made in Abyss will reveal itself.

Gai Valentine

Alright so next week, man. It’s coming!

James Perrott

nothing matters as long as single episodes arent being pointlessly split over 2 days just cause theyre longer no one wants to watch half an episode reaction, or half a movie reaction

Tuti Egg

This anime is increbible

James Perrott

he couldnt lift that with his strength alone, he was struggling so much even with a log pulling with him

James Perrott

The only thing bad about Lyza is she clearly cares more about the abyss than her own child, which is a bit wierd. She straight up abandoned her to be taken care of by another child and sent to an orphanage, which explains rikos lack of empathy and her not understanding what is weird and uncomfortable to others

BooBerry

To asnwer your question regarding the bends and diving, it's called Decompression Sickness. Long story short, your body uses Oxygen, but not the Nitrogen. The Nitrogen disolves into your bloodstream and if you come up too quickly, the pressure drops and the nitrogen expands before it can leave your blood. Forming bubbles in your blood or tissue.

Zagrom Field

Oh yeah, I forgot he mentioned that in the episode. If I recall he was also specifically asking if it was just an ocean thing or was about the depth. Which if I understand right what he's asking, its the depth. As in if a freshwater lake is deep enough you'd get the bends just the same as you would the ocean. Its not a special condition strictly related to the ocean or saltwater or something. In fact I think you can get it at high altitudes too... like due to decompression. But I don't really know about so I can't say anything there.

Zagrom Field

Look, I just didn't want to be misinterpreted. So I explained what I meant. That's all.

GTB

Naa is a great character yes! but still...design, voice-acting, story, personality, animations, everything is perfect sosu. Maybe one of my favorite characters ever ;).

GTB

Right! And Riko is pretty the same. Her obsession with the Abyss takes everything away, and it is also what drives her to always get up and move on.

Gilgabro

he didn't lift the animal he used a tree as a counter weight to lift it up.

TsUNaMy WaVe

Regarding how white whistles (the actual items, not the people) are the key to unlocking the power for certain relics, we saw Ozen do it last episode with the cube! In case you missed it :)

Maurice S

God i am excited to see you react to later episodes and especially the movie I skipped on this show because in the trailer it looked more like a children anime. My god was i wrong and i am so fking glad that i gave the show a chance. I Binged watched the 2 seasons so hard :D

Michał Jastrzębski

High altitude has more to so with the fact that lungs work on pressure differential, sort of.. Too little pressure, and they will start pulling gases (including oxygen) from your blood rapidly. Leading to hypoxia within a very short period of time - in extreme cases, think seconds eather than minutes. That and lungs are also very delicate so an explosive/rapid dexompression means - if you are holding your breath, youe lungs will get shredded just as rapidly. Which is rather incompatible with life.

Matt

I had a different take on what Ozen is referring to as "irredeemable" at the end. Ozen mentioned that she wanted to remember more before Reg and Riko left. Being around Riko was likely dredging up old memories of Lyza, and Ozen wanted to remember as much about her as she could. Only in the very last flashback is Lyza's full face actually shown. I took this to mean that Ozen had forgotten what she looked like, but didn't realize that until it finally came back to her. For that, she calls herself irredeemable, just like so many other people have called her. It seems like Ozen cared for Lyza more than anyone else she's known. Her face of shock and betrayal upon learning that Lyza got married to Torka, and her harsh words about him and Riko causing Lyza grief with their deaths really demonstrate this. She has a very questioning tone when her subordinate says it's a good thing for Reg and Riko to rely on each other. I think Ozen believed that Lyza was relying on her, but as Lyza grew up and made connections with others, Ozen realized she had been the one relying on Lyza for companionship. I think the most interesting thing about Ozen's character is that she doesn't hesitate to reveal the dark and selfish feelings that most people try to keep hidden. You were spot on with your assessment that she's got a rotten personality, but she's definitely not evil. Despite being a legendary white whistle with monstrous strength and vitality, her emotions are very human. These traits are highlighted even more by comparing her to another very well-written character that appears later.

Soulseller33

now the journey really starts. Get Ready for all the show has still in store for you :)

Emilis2023

No one can survive a trip upwards from beyond the 5th layer normally, but they could theoretically still send messages up. Near the start of the show they say something about not trusting messages from anyone lower ranked than a white whistle from lower depths because the abyss seems to cause some level of madness. I envision something like white whistles establishing bases at each lower level and keeping some means of sending information to the level above themselves and it getting passed from one to the next until it reaches the 5th level and is able to be carried up by an actual person. I love that whatever reached the surface from the lower levels must sound so wild that people assume those who sent it have gone mad.

Emilis2023

"I want to see monsters in the 5th layer" I'd say you will, but not like you're expecting.

Velox'

It's amazing how this show can make you emotional from a scene that isn't that impactful ...

Edu S.

"And i feel like Lyza is the bad one" Oh this is going to be really interesting my dear Luke... Well, things from this episode on start to go crazy, i cant wait to see the next episode.

Edu S.

Remember the praying skeletons that were there for over 2000 years ago? Imagine if there is a point where time distortion starts to get bizarre, to the point where those 2000 years meant one second ago...

Demo

Holy crap, looking back at this its insane to realize how much stuff I had misremembered about this show. Specially the the line about the loss of ones sense of time and sanity in the fifth layer, that one really intrigues me.

Edu S.

I cant wait to hear our first "SPARAGMOS!" Sometimes, it seems like the curses of each layer of the abyss also applies to the layers of each character's personality

Edu S.

tbh i would like it even it was childish, just the proposal alone makes me hyped

Eggicus Roundplumpius

That’s definitely interesting, but the fact that they died in prayer suggests they died pretty much instantaneously. You know what’s really interesting, though? We haven’t seen a single one since leaving Orth. All the ones we know about were in the first layer. Perhaps, at one time, the curse was inverted and time passed faster at the bottom. Maybe a reversal, literally whiplashing time at the entrance and collapsing into the abyss, is what killed them. They knew an end was coming so they prayed. What that would also mean is that those trapped at the bottom of the Abyss were likely its creators and very little time will have passed for them. Perhaps Reg was constructed to explore beyond what the creators couldn’t, to potentially examine the state of the abyss and potentially search for a solution.

Sai

Ozen is cool and all, but she scares me. I would not want to be in the same room as her. Things are about to get crazy.

Sai

sosu gang. I still love both of them.

Tecknos Aslayrz

Well put, and presumably the correct way to view the interactions. Ozen for sure didn't think bad of Lyza in any way, she was calling herself Irredeemable for forgetting, something they mentioned in the flashbacks when she mentioned the mental toll the Abyss can take, leaving her with the hidden scars. I assume (Since we most likely wont know for sure with how the manga/story seems to mostly only follow the duo's journey down) that Ozen is coming up in her later years of life, even if physically we don't see it much. She's probably getting to the point where her assistant Marulk is either going to have to start reminding Ozen of tasks or things as she possibly slips into an Abyss-caused Dementia, and Marulk will take over for Ozen in a couple years. Will Ozen attack people in her lessened mind? Who's to say. That'd be a decent spin-off to explore.

Louispul5

There is a 0% chance he'll be able to stop the movie half way through. No one has that willpower.

Louispul5

You can't go from the 6th layer to the surface. You definitely can go from say, the 6th to the 4th and hand it off to someone else.

Louispul5

Ozen may be calling Lyza irredeemable because of what you have to do to reach the bottom. (and by extension, what she'd have to make Riko do to also get to the bottom.) Also nice worldbuilding. The punishment everywhere is tying you up and lifting you into the air a couple dozen feet. What happens if you do that in the abyss again? Go up a couple dozen feet?

Scott Humphreys

Episode 10 next week! Let the real show begin.

Ttsukasa

Or, Or you can shut your damn nasty mouth @Tecknos, don't be wishing Dementia on Ozen you shut your mouth right now! Ozen didn't forget anything, she did literally from start to finish as Lyza instructed her to do. And she found it irredeemable that the mother would desire her totally unprepared daughter to follow after her. But it a light hearted way. She uses the word "Irredeemable" a lot to describe others and this was her using it to say the same about Lyza. Lyza who after managing to get Ozen to put forth all that damn hard work, abandons the child. Lyza who after Ozen worked really hard and left treasures behind to save this child, sends the child back into the Abyss.

Strang

Technicaly it's not the depth either, but the pressure difference. Going deep in water ramps up the pressure a lot more, than say if there happened to be a deep hole filled with air. In such a hole pressure difference gradient would be so low and the time needed to travel so long, that there propably wouldn't be any noticeable problems if not ascending very rapidly.

Thomas M

I'm no expert on the lore of this show, but I am pretty sure that anyone who tries to go up just dies or turns into a monster. Only Bondrewd can avoid that effect. But you can bet that any message that comes up from beneath the Sea of Corpses gets sent on. Probably one of B's main duties.

Renagale

The abyss is very much like a snakes mouth. Snakes have fangs that point down their throat so food can slide down them but if you try to pull out the teeth dig in and the 5th layer is the point when you can no longer pull back and keep your body intact in any way.

Andrew Lindsey

Next week is the reason I think the voice acting for the Japanese is superior (and I usually like dubs more). Luke, you may break and continue watching past ep10

GTB

@Louispul5 > No you can't. 6th layer is the point of no return. It means exactly what it sounds like. To detail, I'd have to spoil so I'll keep quiet.

GTB

@ Thomas M > Please edit your post to remove spoilers. We mustn't say anything about "him" for now.

Hawk of Battle

May also explain the curse as well; your bodies cellular processes slow down and stabilize as you descend, but rapidly accelerate and become unstable as you ascend. You essentially age faster as you go back up until your body breaks down.

MZ41D

the music of Abyss is really sad, the music elevates the mysteriousness of the abyss and makes me wonder whats down there

Callista

Oh no, they definitely tell you that she went and annihilated the raiders that killed Torka. She has most definitely killed alot of people, especially foreign raiders. It mentioned that she fought against them dozens of times that are known.

Patticus

Outside of the normal dub vs sub debate, it can be easily agreed that the voice acting for both is absolutely peak in this anime. I've watched it both subbed and dubbed, and cried both times 🥲

BRUNO Marques

The curse does not work like bends. It doesn't matter how slowly you ascend. Every layer has a limit on how much you can ascend from the lowest point you reach before the curse hits you. Might be 10 meters, might be less than a meter but it will hit you and will continue hitting you as you ascend further.

BRUNO Marques

You can't avoid the curse. Please don't mention possible spoilers, even if they are not quite right.

syaimaral

Interesting....time moves differently the deeper you go? Isn't there a black hole theory that the closer you are to it, the slower time moves due to its gravitational pull?

Metal

It's weird I knew that this anime is rated R 17+ but the player displays R 14 I hope there's isn't censorship.

Metal

I watched it all in one day I was hooked on. And episode 10 was a slap!

Anonymous

A commenter mentioned this on a previous video, but there are maps that show where Reg & Riko are on the map after the end credits of each episode.

Ringo Tang

A lot of people find it confusing that why are these people still longing for the abyss meanwhile it is full of dangers and suffering I think you can treat it as to "why people keep on living when life is suffering?" ask that yourself and you will be in clarity going to the abyss is a life journey, you can't go back because time doesn't go back

Animeter

I think he already watched ep10, so it doesn't matter. Episode 10 is the Episode that makes this one special to me. And from that episode this anime was an rollercoaster of emotions. For me my number 1.

Gabriel Pires

Humans can't go back up from the Sixth Layer and forward, but they can still send messages. They use something similar to small hot air balloons, and they smear the whole thing with a substance that repels the Abyss' creatures. But the deeper they are, the harder it is to get the message safely.

Ricko Andrew

Well, gotta go find out what's down there. If she still on the surface, she will not be able to go back to abyss because she will be attach to riko.

Szadek96

The deal with the bends IRL is all about gas pressure and how much nitrogen can be dissolved in your blood, as well as how fast that pressure can change. Air is roughly 830 times less dense than water, so problematic pressure changes when submerging in water can happen in a tiny fraction of the depths they are diving into the abyss. The other part of the problem is time. The way to avoid the bends is to ascent slowly often in stages to let the nitrogen work its way out of your blood before it becomes a problem. In order to get the bends climbing out of the abyss they would need to clear hundreds if not thousands of meters in minutes, and with the added difficulty of the curse that is not realistically possible outside of the gondolas that we see at the very extreme upper layers of the abyss. Those would have to be planned out to avoid traveling too far too fast. The speeds they would need to be moving to cause problems outside of the gondolas are not feasible.

Mericat

Idk, I interpreted Ozen’s “irredeemable” comment more as just being fond exasperation for the fact that Lyza went on ahead and left all the explaining to Ozen. Like she said earlier, it’s another burden she’s taken on, but she’s got a strong sense of duty.

ShoePlum

There are people who have gone down beyond layer 5, its just that you cannot return after you go past layer five. Although there are still ways of transmitting information back up through the layers, which is why other white whistles know information of deeper layers like 6 and 7. And is also why many white whistles hang around layer 5, before eventually taking their "last dive" from which they will never return.

fluffqueen91

I've heard very vague things about this show (just general "omg" dark, emotional vibes), but I'm going in completely blind as I watch on this channel. I've seen multiple comments mention ep10...I feel like I'm not ready for whatever we're gonna get??
