I think you're going to love next episode. Damn, this anime moves fast even during the rewatch. There's a deceptively large amount of content.

Kakashi

Hello I'm a new Patreon member! All of your questions will be answered in time, just have some patience.

Zagrom Field

I might be the only person to suggest this. But you asking for a future Patreon exclusive; I'd like to recommend "Seirei no Moribito" also called "Moribito: Guardian of the Spirit". I'm not sure if its particularly popular but I always liked it and don't think I have ever seen a reaction to it on youtube. I always figured it was copywrite reasons? The art and animation is great, it has interesting characters who have good development through the series; its also fairly short and finished. Idk, maybe someone else can vouch for this and give me credibility? haha Regardless, I'm so excited to start getting 2 episodes of Made in Abyss. A lot of the questions I recall you asking this episode will have answers fairly soon in the show.

Sebastian Stróż

Maaaaaaaaaan.... We need more episodes per week. I watched this anime like 4 times and each time its a journey and a half.

Soulseller33

yes season 1 -> third movie -> season 2 is the order to watch

stevmaster11

yoo, cant wait for 2 episodes per Week. Then the movie and then s2

Andrew Southwell

I assume the reason they're letting Riko go is because they know they can't stop her, she was going to find a way no matter what. They all have this "pull" from the Abyss, which also means they understand Riko's motives to some degree. They probably don't expect them to have an easy time, or to ever see them again, but they just hope whatever happens that she's fulfilling her dreams. There's a reason that a "last dive" as mentioned in previous episodes is something celebrated rather than shunned, the Abyss is just that alluring.

Lex

White whistles means their achievement could single handedly affect a whole country or even the entire world, and it has a certain requirement to become a white whistle, the answer would be a spoiler.

Unidentified

Every delver is in danger wherever they are in the abyss. The reason they go anyways is that their desire to go into the abyss surpasses their fear of death. Habo recognizes that riko has the same desire that he does and feels he has no right to deny her that. Plus there is the security of reg being with her.

Prohibidibabido

None of the following is spoiler. It's all based on information we've gotten from the episodes so far. I assume that the main reason the orphanage exists is because lots of their parents have died in the abyss. The whole community is built around the abyss, literally. Obviously, a lot of people are fine just living in the town, but there's a lot of good reasons to go down there. Seems like you could get rich by finding rare relics. So you have the whole "searching for buried treasure" folk. I think some of them do it to enrich the town in general. I know earlier, the orphanage said the relics they found would be used to fund the orphanage. Good cave raiders seem to be highly praised, too so I'm sure some of them do it for the clout. But mostly, a lot of the people in this world seem do it for the adventure and exploration. So finding treasure and making new discoveries seem to be worth the risk of death. As for the people that do their "last dive," there's a point where you go so far in the abyss that you can't come back because the "curse" will literally kill you if you try to ascend. And I guess those people have decided that their thirst for knowledge outweights everything else in their lives. And I think because the community as a whole has such a strong sense of curiosity and desire for adventure, they probably have a skewed view on acceptable risk when it comes to the kids. But I don't think Habo would have let Riko go down there if Reg wasn't with her. Way too dangerous for a child if Reg wasn't capable of protecting her. That's my 2 cents on some of the questions you've had so far.

Animeter

Can't wait for next weekend! a crazy episode of jjk + two crazy episodes of Made in Abyss... :D

Moxx

On the idea of Riko and Reg going down into the dangerous Abyss on their own, and why they are being allowed to do so: Check out stories of Japanese children's first shopping trips. It's a very Japanese cultural thing to send 2-4 year old kids on their first shipping trip or similar errand alone (a mile-long walk, or taking bus trips, etc), generally building up their ability to act independently. There's a similar thing with high school students living on their own in their own apartment in order to be close to the school they got into. (You have to apply to and be accepted by a high school to attend; it's not just going to whatever high school covers where you live.) This feels like something of a similar nature, even if they are older, and going places far more dangerous. Basically, it doesn't feel that unnatural for young kids to be acting independently in a Japanese context, which is why these sorts of stories can make sense.

James Perrott

Yeah i have no clue what people were on about saying its "too early" for you to be watching this. That makes no sense at all. id just ignore those people, they probably have some wierd superioirity complex in thinking you must watch a certain amount of shows to watch the good ones they watch lmao

James Perrott

I forgot just how fast the first layer is over and done with lol

James Perrott

Oh there most certainly are episodes were excited for, so excited Im glad weve erached the 2 episodes per week from now, when the show has now truly begun

Vincenzo

"This is awesome".. the last words ahaha.

Daniel Griffiths

yeah dont watch the ending i seen a little spoiler... but GOD i cant wait for next week with the double reactions!

I3ladeDragon

I'd recommend not skipping the "recaps". Sometimes they provide additional important new context/scenes!

James Perrott

Id love Date a Live as either a patreon or twitch watch along one day, i love that show so much it was super popular back in like 2015 when anime was so much less mainstream, but seems to have been a bit forgotten receently which is sad Its silly and a bit *cheeky* lol but also has an amazing story and fights throughout it, with absolutely incredible music. I think its the most underrated soundtrack of all time, theres so many songs that are insanely good id also reccomend watching the 4 openings, and some of the best of the soundtrack id reccomend is "Pride" "Lament" Rhapsody Rage" "AHIH" and "Hanten Tohka", theres also epic orchestral versions of the first 3 openings that are absolutely incredible

James Perrott

yeah the ending spoils all the characters that show up and monsters, definitely better to avoid till finishing season 1

Nattis_O

You might like: Drifters (Same author as Helsing ultimate) Powerful warriors from history is sucked into a fantasy world. Kabaneri of the iron fortress. Described as Attack on titans with Zombies. If you want something different you have: Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation (Magic, Zombies, murder mystery. Beautiful artwork and music as well as great action.) Kings Avatar (About a professional gamer that is being kicked out from his team and he starts over from scrats to become the best. Both are Chinese anime (Dongua). So it takes a while to get used to the different in language. But generally the art style, music and content are great. X) If you want something a little longer you have Hunter X Hunter.

dragonguard666

I really hope to see Castlevania after Made in Abyss. It lost in the vote to Hellsing Ultimate and I was under the impression it would be watched afterwards but got suddenly shoved aside for Made in Abyss. You have also mentioned Castlevania several times as likely coming after Made in Abyss. I'd hate for it to end up in some teased but never watched limbo.

HappyDoodads

I definitely want a Bocchi the Rock watchalong next on Patreon, since the heavy copyright on the music would make it impossible to watch on Youtube or Twitch.

BlekDimon

I'm not sure how heavy is copyright around Madoka Magica, but since it's made by Shaft studio, which, one of their series - Monogatari series, is one of the most heavy copyrighted anime out there. So I would expect that their other shows also might have similar issues. If that's the case, Madoka might be a good contender.

Raingurr

I assumed the ones saying "too early" were referring to how dark and in your face visceral it becomes.

BlekDimon

I know at least 1000+ animes and never heard of it, so yeah, my guess is that - it's just not popular enough and pretty old. People on yt mostly react to newer stuff.

Himiyo

Don't click skip recap, it skips additional lines and the start usually blends into the rest of the episode

Himiyo

^ I think people were just saying it because of that and because the show throws a lot at you at time, not because they have a superiority complex

Adam

Not taking the information given to you at face value is fine and all, but one thing to keep in mind with anime is that the vast majority of anime have the characters give explanations on things for the benefit of the the viewer so that they are able to follow along without getting too lost. When a character explains something it's generally either true or partially true. This isn't always the case, but it's a good rule of thumb, and you can generally tell if an explanation is like that or not with some experience.

Scott Humphreys

After the end of the first season you'll understand why people, including me, say it's too soon to be watching this. Should have started with Madoka Magica.

Miko

The recaps have new content sometimes

Sam Sepiol

There is nothing really concretely said in the story but it seems the people of Orth are generally living fleeting lives and culturally care more about discovery than their own lives.

Sebastian Stróż

Please elaborate but I don't see an explanation that would make sense. He is loving the journey already and will get more invested with each episode. I can see poeple say that about monogatari that requires more knowledge about anime tropes and general understanding of Japanese culture or gintama that is a parody of different genres and anime, but MiA? EDIT// spoiler free ofcourse and if you need to use spoilers then make sure people know you are about to write them.

Thomas M

Welcome to Uncle Lovecraft's Fun Time Murder Hole. Bring tissues.

SonicKatana

So about the people not seeming to care if two children go down there despite knowing theyll probably die, try to think about it like Pokemon in the sense that, they will literally send children out into the wild with a single pokemon at age 11 despite all the dangers there are in the world of pokemon based on alot of the pokemon lore. It seems to just be kind of a thing where yeah theres dangers, yeah people die, but in there world they are taught about alot of the dangers and such and so are just kinda used to people going off on there own adventure and challenging themselves and finding out what awaits them whether it be good or bad. Yeah its a bit messed up to us, but its how everyone in these worlds were raised i guess.

vaste

I don't see anyone else answering your whistle question so i will. the whistle tiers in order are red-blue-moon/purple-black-white. you climb the ranks by recommendation, so only higher ranks can give promotions, but only up to the black whistle tier. white whistles are special cases (no spoilers). In the manga there has only been like 5-6 named white whistles. but there are dozens of black whistles and hundreds of moon. Hopefully this will answer the majority of your questions

Sebastian Stróż

Since people are recommending patreon stuff. You mentioned in your JJK reaction that you love it when anime mixes humor with serious stuff (basically shonen genre), training arcs and following characters progression (more shonen stuff) as well as deep lore so i think Hunter x Hunter is perfect for you. It's arguably the best shonen anime and definitely one of the best anime out there. It's a longer one, 150ish episodes, so take that into the account but I'm more than certain you will LOVE it.

Chuummy

I agree that it doesn't matter which you see first. But I think a lot of people view MiA as Madoka on steroids. There are lots of similarities in presentation and tone, so seeing the one that came first can serve as a primer for future animes inspired by it. If ever Luke decided to pick up Madoka Magica, he might end up seeing it as just a lesser version of Made in Abyss

Zanath Kariashi

He was going to, but something came up and he had to hand the matter of chasing them off to a normal Blue Whistle team.

Sai

Two a week!

Floater

U should watch bocchi the rock as the next exclusive since it has alot of music in it

Metal

I watched it all in 4 days. The hardest part was the 3rd movie which I chained after first season day 2.

Velox'

Next episode is where things start getting serious

Ringo Tang

he has finally reached the sus episodes

Yuugen

I would recommend watching the recaps for they’re not just recaps in this anime, the narrator especially having some more lines or expanding the hows and abouts in this world they live in. Highly recommended but nevertheless, glad you’re enjoying the hell outta this beauty!

Callista

He is walking into the Abyss, as recklessly as Riko, It is okay though, in the end we are all just the netherworld's lost children.

TacticalFox31

Don't know if people would wanna see a reaction to this. But I know you did a reaction to Voice Play awhile back, they just released a new song about 3 weeks ago. Its insane, so if it's something that you wouldn't mind checking out. You could ask and see what everyone thinks.

Erbs

Actually, if you go to the end of each ending, I believe it shows you a map with Reg's and Riko's faces to indicate their current depth. Right now, they're around the 1350 meter mark, right at the beginning of Layer 2. I'd be a bit careful about scrolling through the outro though, as there may be some very minor spoilers...

Tico Machi

The endings change a little bit as you go. It shows a detailed picture of the map, and as they get deeper, it shows lower parts of the map. Nothing too major you are missing out on.

Cruz

two episodes of this masterpiece a week! cant wait till next friday!!

This Guy

I think for Patreon exclusives, a music anime would be great as it's likely difficult on other platforms. I would recommend Bocchi the rock or Vivy as these are really good!

BRUNO Marques

Going past the second layer is considered suicide. It's not safe. Cave raiders understand the abyss in a very odd way to normal people. They know more than you do at this point of the show. There are 5 white whistles and many black whistles. The rank of WW is a bit exclusive for reasons. You meet Ozen next episode.

Strang

Weirdly people seem to think that in order to "properly" enjoy anime that is a bit of a deconstruction of a genre, you need to have consumed copious amounts of the said type of anime. Bit like if you couldn't really enjoy Lord of flies without first reading metric ton of boys adventure books from 50´s. Just like Lord of flies is a good book without any prior knowledge, so can any good deconstruction survive on it's own without the context, although the context does enhance the message. Luckily though, children's adventure/mystery stories are quite a global thing, and it doesn't take a genius to see how Made in Abyss is twisting and questioning the tropes. Case and point, the whole "we must avoid adult supervision to go on an adventure" is a story beat in myriad of media, down to the "cool" adult looking the other way, but here it immediately evokes the question: "Wait what!? He's just letting them go? There are fucking man eating monsters down there!?"

Some0neElse

i think they mentioned 5 or 6 total White Whistles in earlier episodes. The ones we know so far are Liza the Annihilator (Riko's mother) and Ouzen the Immovable (the one who helped carry Riko to the surface)

Animeter

Remember the happy times in the first layer...

Nate Ming

The whiplash when you watch other stuff is the real Curse of the Abyss

Nate Ming

Something that keeps me from quickly recommending Made in Abyss to new fans is some of the weird suggestive stuff dealing with kids Like, if you've seen a lot of anime you might be more desensitized to it, but it's still pretty shocking and up-front in Made in Abyss What's even funnier is that there are people who *just don't notice it at all* and I wish I was that blind

Robert F

Glad you're e joking it for the world and mystery. It's got tons of that and I'm sure you'll love it for every bit of it. That being said, I also wouldn't blame you if you decide to cancel down the line due to other choices they make.

TheHaywireGamer

in the world if a red whistle travels all the way to the second layer it is considered a suicide. so yeah, they are expected to die

Thui

2 episodes? whooaa

LordDanzo

Some people are answering questions that hasn't been answered yet. Remember, if Luke asks something, he's just voicing his thoughts. You don't need to answer if it hasn't been answered by the anime yet. Let him find out for himself naturally.

LordDanzo

Also, I don't think it's weird that you're questioning why they send kids down the abyss. But it's not like they don't know that the kids are in danger. They said they consider it suicide if they make it to the 2nd layer. You just have to assume that the world is kind of f'd up that they consider this normal for them. Hopefully the show will make it clear why it's like this, but you'll have to make your own conclusions.

GTB

Can't wait for 2 ep a week! Take a deep breath! We're going down one more layer, air is going to start to run out. Here, a few recommandations for exclusive patreon animes : - Mushoku Tensei : Maybe the best Isekai, but an isekai with controversial themes. A 35yo disturbed jerk dies and reborn (but keeps his 35yo mind) in a new fantasy world and will try to be a better human being. It's pretty damn well written, with a lot of nuance about the notions of right and wrong. Season one is 23 ep, season 2 is coming later this year. - Violet Evergarden : a short anime (13ep + a movie that ends the story), very emotionnal, gorgeous visuals. Highly recommanded. - Erased : a short anime (12 ep). A classic one, very well rated. It's better to go completely blind. - 86 : a SF geopolitic-war story. You already love the music, you'd love the story. - Spy Familly or Kobayashi's Dragon Maid : if you want a slice of life / feel-good comedy.

Roy Meulblok

The music in this anime is phenomenal.

I think the 2 episodes a week at this timing is great! It lines up Episode 13 and the Movie perfectly, before transitioning to Season 2!

Michał Jastrzębski

Ozen "a bit of a strange one" lol, thats one way of putting it...

KDaBHoo

That op is is... so weird. Took me like 10 listens to start to like it but it deserves a reaction just because of how different it is.

Ryutsu

God I'm so curious to see your reaction all of the stuff that's coming up! It for sure just becomes more interesting with every episode

Tom Boggess

there is something very specific that has to happen for you to become a white whistle. It has nothing to do with how deep you go. Hablog is basically on white whistle level, but that specific thing hasn't happend for him. also the reason that people say it is "too early" for made in abyss is because this is a category of anime called deconstruction that takes the tropes from other genres (in this case mystery/adventure) and then...well you'll see.

David M

They kind of accept that Riko's either going to die or succeed based on her having Reg with her. He's just a boy machine to you, but he's actually an Aubade as they said, an ultimate relic of the Abyss. Most black whistles aren't even allowed to keep high grade relics for raiding, and white whistles are usually only allowed to keep one. Reg is a powerful tool, and is more or less a cheat mode for the abyss. There's a game based on the anime, and while it's kind of janky and requires mods on PC to be good, it really captures how exploring the abyss is and how dangerous it can be when you don't have a nigh-impervious robot with extendo-arms and have to rely on melee weapons, bows, guns, rock climbing and ropes to descend.

Uzair Islam

I literally subscribed just for your reactions to this incredible series!

THIS RETARDED BITCH IS PISSING ME OFF SO FUCKING BAD WHY THE FUCK IS SHE SO STUPID
