Great anime. A definite must watch sometime down the line.

BlekDimon

SAO does get a lot of hate, and it's actually not that good. However, Alicization was the peak of this series and was pretty good.

DeusSilvam

First part of SAO is fine. And for someone that isn't familiar with the genre, I think its a good introduction.

Relic194

When you do watch it, I'll be there to rewatch for the 20th plus times to watch with you

Some0neElse

Love it or hate it people must admit - SAO is the anime that kickstarted the whole Isekai golden age. Yes - it wasnt the first one adapted or even the first one written but it blew off the entire community and quickly became one of the go-to recommendations. Second part of the anime is kinda questionable and that made the anime lose momentum but its still one of the series that you must watch. Its also the anime that got a better Abridged (parody) version than the original :D

Sebastian Stróż

I hope I speak for others as well but if you feel like watching something then just skip polls and watch it. Be it youtube, patreon exclusive or twitch, just go for it. Reaction channels are fun when reactor enjoys the journey so be more selfish especially now when you do more anime at once and you can have one slot dedicated to either watch what you feel like or experiment with genres etc.

Adam

It unfortunately got really popular to hate on SAO, largely in part to some youtubers shitting on it. It's not some masterwork piece of literature by any means, but it's an entertaining series, and I think that's what's most important. It's so popular for a reason.

Anonymous

SAO is a fun show, but your brother has some dog shit taste if it's his favorite, lmao. I thought you said Kill la Kill was his favorite? Kill la Kill is much, much better than SAO and is probably in my top 10, if not 5. By all means, watch it, it's a good show and is worth a watch. There's a whole lot of stuff out there that is much, much better though.

BlekDimon

I think giving a special slot where Luke just chooses anime he is interested to give it a shot; without any polls or recommendations, just from experience of OP/ED's might be a good idea.

Hide1440

Can't wait for you to see Volume 2. It has the best songs in SAO in my opinion. Also, glad you're watching what Aniplex posted, because they hit with copyright pretty bad, and people post some low quality versions and have edited visuals. By the way, Vol.2 does not have a special ending called Niji no Kanatani by ReoNa, BUT you did react to THE FIRST TAKE for this song. The series is currently on to make a trilogy of movies that basically cover what season 1 had so upcoming songs are not in the video either. It only has the theme for the first movie.

Victoria Pritchard

What brings people to this anime is the harem that the main character has.

BlekDimon

It was probably the case when it released, but nowadays it's more rejecting. Or is it just watcher age dependant...? Hmm.

AnimeCenter

Actually the reason we see so many isekais is because of Mushoku Tensei's LN. It started the isekai craze in Japan. Also the reason why most isekais are adaptations from LNs.

Hayden Steele

Please don't end up doing a watch of this.

Godzy Lasserre

I’m afraid you will have to do a part 3 because you missed the openings and endings of the season called Sword Art Online : Alicization. With some more LiSA song in it 🙂

ArrenShadow 03

eh? I come back to this for the world, the idea of SAO (the game) is so fun concept

Eggicus Roundplumpius

The thing about SAO is that it is an interesting show, but you have to go in with a forgiving mind because some things don't always line up or make a ton of sense. It's still a good show, it's just imperfect in many ways. The music is killer, though. That you will love. Also, there are three main seasons split into 12 story arcs or 'parts'. There are a total of 96 episodes with 2 movies.

Animeter

the anime is really good. Not in my top 10, but really good and emotional. I don't know why so many people don't like it. But every taste is different. For examble I don't like the twitch animes so far, except slime.

FabioSpar

To respond to some of the questions: - Sword Art Online (or SAO in short) started airing in 2012 - The fantasy worlds are VR environments created by humans so they're not sitting and playing with mouse/keyboard. They control the avatar as if it were their real body. - It has 3 seasons (although the last one was split up in multiple part) and 1 movie - Season 1 - 24eps (2012) - Season 2 - 24eps (2014) - Movie Ordinal Scale (2017) - Season 3: - Alicization - 24eps (2018) - Alicization War of the underworld - Part1 - 12eps (2019) - Part2 - 11eps (2020) There will probably be a new season once the new arc on the LightNovel named 'Unital Ring' is finished. Btw, there is also SAO Progressive that is like a remake of SAO's 1st season being adapted in movie format. The first movie came out in 2021.

Jesse Wright

SAO was my first anime so it has a special place in my heart. It has some mature scenes which was a surprise. Goblin Slayer is the same, very mature scenes which was a shock.

Ruukasu97

it is my favorite anime and the main reason for it is the relationship between kritio and asuna + their ai daughter yui.

Iron_claw

I'm going to say this and I hope people who read this understand I know its popular to hate on sword art online but if you really think about it it's not a bad anime at all there are plenty of other anime out there that are worse than sword art online I would say 75% of all other anime out there is worse than sword art online and that the 25% of all other anime is better than sword art online

Hikaru Kamiki

for me, SAO and Fairy Tail had kind of similar circumstances. It's a popular anime yet got hated as well. for personal opinions, SAO is good but it was suck later part of 1st season till season 2. SAO Alicization War of Underworld actually was the peak because MC isn't functioning well 😅

BlekDimon

Harem with a lot of girls I hate/don't like, that's the main reason for me. Just cut them out or make a lot less important and it would be a lot better.

Ruukasu97

you missed atleast 3 openings and 3 endings, there are 3 seasons and 3 movies you did 2 seasons and 1 movie

Ruukasu97

the scene with the ring youre wondering about was actually where he proposed to her during the meteor shower

Mash Köhlitz

I personally like this Anime

Gavin Wong

sword art is still worthing regardless. its still good just season 2 and 3 drags then season 4 hits so hard

Yami Youssouf

for me the best thing about sword art online is the sword art, online XD

Shamiak

honestly, a lot of people hate SAO but.. music? 10/10, animation? (considering it's from 2012) 10/10, yeah it's not the best adaptation of the light novel story wise but it's still enjoyable, for those who dropped SAO after season 1, continue it because alicization is THE top arc of SAO and you need to watch it. Also Luke, waiting for a part 2 where you react to the Alicization OP and EDs :D

PolishWizard

broo how does everyone always miss the best ones, the openings from SAO Alicization are by far the best and they weren't in this video.

itaral

sao anime is a bit over 10 years old and it's still releasing.

Normadus

I personally always liked SAO. I never waste time on dumb stuff like it manga or LN is better so I have no problem with that. The weakest part of SAO for me was always second season with fairies

Karus

just read description before you type something stupid

Yami Youssouf

catch the moment is a movie opening thats why

rostikowb

Luke, as you know, people are divided into 3 types: Those who hate everything popular Those who love everything popular Those who watch what they like SAO was very, very popular back in the day. Now you understand where all the controversy came from 😂

rostikowb

There are at least 2 guys there, which one of them is in the harem? lol. You see what you want to see. Everyone liked SAO because of the opportunity to get into the game, and that's a fact, no need to make it up

rostikowb

In my opinion: Alicization>AINCRAD>GGO I think the worst part is the arch with the elves. But for some reason everyone hates GGO.

ベルベット

SAO is good, even the fairy arc that people hate because of meme warfare. I won't sit here and say its the best anime or w/e, its not by a long shot, but its good.

Antoine Jones

umm im confused didnt you do all sao openings already?. Also you wouldnt necessary lose at close range with a sniper rifle.... its called dont use the scope and try to snipe someone lol.... I men if you cant aim with your eyes and take someone 3 feet away from you out without the need of a scope then you shouldnt be picking up a gun at all lol

donald cuck

he did only 6 of them, but tbh he mights forget some of them so im happy

Zolfried

the title Sword Art Online is misguiding.. as it is the name of an MMORPG in that world... but the anime itself spans over multiple games, thats why you get different vibes from the different openings.

bobo

The sad part is the adaptation for the supposed best part of the show is shit.

Finito

THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TELLING ME ABOUT THAT STORE!

Pilot_CT12

huh wasnt expecting Ordinal Scale movie to be in here. Never really considered the movie having an "Opening" exactly. Oh well, more content for us so thats a win I guess lol

2024-02-26 14:32:46 Sword Art Online in one of the first anime I watched and it holds a very special place in my heart. Just hearing the openings and endings again almost brought me to tears, so much nostalgia! I would love to see you react to the whole show!

DeusSilvam

I don't think I made it through season 2...or maybe I did, because I do remember the mystery being solved. But yeah, by "first part" I do mean the original SAO game, prior to the elf stuff. I think my issue was with the fact that the whole "gimmick" with the show was lost after the original game was solved. Then it felt just like Kirito being an MMO addict playing games. Not sure if S3 fixed that issue, since I never looked into it. I much prefer Log Horizon or even .hack//Sign when it comes to "stuck inside a game" genre.

donald cuck

fairy tail and sao dont deserve this hate tbh, fairy tail has a lot of cheeky moments, but its very enjoyable to see how goes the fights and the relation ship between characters, and the story is very well done as well. and sao is a 9/10 without the 2nd part of the 1st season, cuz it has everything that a good anime need (character development, good animation/ost, epic fights, emotional moments, good side/main characters, and a pretty good story) beside the r*pe and inc3st shits its very good

Majoz

I love this show, it had real promise but fucked it up a bit, but the story is still good, my first anime, many many years ago, its just good man, Gun gale online aswell as the first season of sao, the ggo alternate aswell, really good

Harley Burnie

I personally adore the battles in SAO. They put hella money into making it damn flashy and pretty.

Harley Burnie

SAO, being one of the first animes I ever watched, hits me HARD. Luke....once you have watched it all, you WILL understand. I have not seen a single reacter who watched it, and didn't think it was absolutely amazing. They could be fronting, but I don't believe so.

Juqsa Rl

ADAMAS wasnt in this list

DefinitlyNotHana

It's going to be quite something, when he'll understand the story/meaning behind some of these endings.

Reennji

I recommend watching SAO to watch SAO Abridged on YouTube

Himiyo

I think the reason its so popular and so hated is because it's a really interesting concept and great as an escapist fantasy just with horrible writing, so especially as the story progresses and more and more cracks start to show with it being so popular the more people begin to hate on it. People who don't care so much for intricate writing or consistancy but love the fantasy aspect love the show while a lot of other people liked it at the start but started hating it as it went on. Add to the mix very dedicated fans, youtubers farming content, nostalgia, distain, etc and you get a controversial anime.

Nate Ming

Man, SAO has a great soundtrack Also I legitimately love those first 14 episodes Everything else doesn't hold me quite as much, but I'll go to bat for that first arc especially

KernoX

I starting to think that me and your brother have very similar tastes :D

Martin Snow

SAO is a pretty long series, more appropriately a saga, split between several story arcs. They had a problem maintaining the stakes for a while which threw off the story for a solid 2 seasons, which is one of the biggest reasons it gets crap from some people. Also an unconfirmed theory that got close to proven by the very end is that this is a spiritual prequel to the show that came before it “Accel World” The depth of its story is great for people who care, but people who just want an action story get tired of it too easily.

Finito

You still missed alot of openings..

Thui

wheres adamas

GaloTechDog

SAO openings/endings slap, but the anime is one of the worst i've ever watched

Veleon

I think the show is very entertaining. It's not perfect, and could've be better. Its quite fun to watch. Would love it if you gave this anime a chance.

Aycee

You need to watch sword art online so you can then watch sword art online abridged

ANIMEMUSE

I hope this is part 1 cause you missed a decent amount

10redturtles -

theres about 100 episodes in SAO 25 in season1, 25 in season 2 and 50 in season 3. Theres also a movie that takes place between seasons 2 and 3

syaimaral

It's got its good seasons and bad seasons. Hit or miss. What makes it work is it's action and this sense of urgency. The main character and fights carry the show. I would say it's similar to danmachi, but sao is a rollercoaster while danmachi is more of a smoother ride.

Nathan McCabe

SAO, Soul Eater, and Fairy Tail were my first anime and they are all of the S tier in my opinion.

Eriaf ;_;

The one at the end was actually from the movie so thats why it was so diffrent than the others

Frentzy

everyone when they not famous, give clues where they live, then they regret later when they do get famous.

Jonah Vianello

i would love for you to watch this anime its one of my all time favourites. i love the animation, the characters, the music, the setting, i personally like the plots (even if it can get quite iffy at times, which is where a lot of the hate comes from), but i push that aside and really enjoy the rest of it!

Jonah Vianello

You still missed all of the openings and ending of alicisation which has like 3 parts or so, so like 3/4 more openings and 3/4 endings, which are my favourite!

2023-05-08 02:55:03 Now you've still yet to have ever watched 3 of the 4 openings from season 3&4. Plus there's the spinoff openings.

Arctic

The Music is by Yuki Kajiura and YES that is why I like SAO so much. The Progressive movies are a major upgrade from the original show, but I'd say that the original is good to watch also.

2023-05-08 07:38:51 I liked this but what in the world was this video lmao it missed so many openings
2023-05-08 03:53:46

FaerieRose

People like it because it’s a power fantasy, and the production values are good. The reasons it gets a lot of hate are hype backlash, a stepsister/cousin crush, and r*pey scenes framed as fan service.

krai

Perfectly described. The one dimensional villain in the Fairy arc just was meh.

krai

Then comes Gun Gale season, the concept and visuals are crazy good. It's just the genderbent avatar put many people off. No man felt proud pointing at his avatar as his favourite character because it felt uneasy to the audience's masculinity. That was the biggest downside of that season for me.

krai

In short, Sword Art Online ended in Season 1, the rest are just milking it.

Kosumi

There are actually quite a few seasons to this show, but I'm not sure how many exactly because of the structure of the show. There are 4 main story arcs in the show, and some side plots, but each season can include 2 arcs and side stories, or it can have one arc span multiple seasons like the latest arc has done. Even though Sword Art Online is pretty divisive within the community it's hard to deny that the anime has some pretty great moments. As for why I personally like SAO, the music and animation, specifically during combat, is basically it lol. The world that the story shows us is pretty fun, with a lot of different types of virtual worlds to explore, but I'm not that invested in the main character as some people are, and I didn't get as upset as others are about certain plot points or character interactions (being spoiler free here). Overall, I'd say it's a fun watch, but there are one or two scenes that put a lot of people off to the show.

Mr. Dog

The endings to the underworld world arc are amazing. Sadly we will have to wait for part 2 for Luke to see them.

Whata Save

holy he missed adamas :c

Kosumi

He said at the beginning of the video that it would be a two part video, as there are two "volumes" of openings and endings

Kosumi

He mentioned it in the video, but this is part one of a two part video, because all the openings and endings are seperated into two different videos

_TKD_

I neither hate nor love sao, but regardless, I would agree that it's a must watch even if solely for how influential it was at the time

_TKD_

While Luke has said he enjoys when he's just guided through, I would love to see a dedicated slot for anime he has personal interest in

_TKD_

The ending for part 1 of war of underworld, Lisa's "Unlasting", is still among my all time favorite anime songs, so I'm hoping for another part where that's included

_TKD_

I think the progressive movies highlight pretty well that the power fantasy aspect and sexualization is what people dislike most about the original, and that a lot of people actually like the story being told when those are removed, though it still isn't without its fair share of faults

dragean greyfield

I believe the real charm of sao is how the anime portrays its characters. Sometimes you forget that they are fictional creations.

Tekbox

Yeah also the annoyance off how for example the first arc just skipped way to much content. we should've seen more floors and then we could've also gotten a more smooth development for the romance and other stuff.

Tekbox

On the topic of where vr needs to go theres basically two directions VR can go one is Fulldive technology which is this plugging in like in the matrix or sao but it's extremely difficult to achieve so who knows if we'll ever get there. the other direction is the one VR currently develops which one can see in ready player one where you move your body. this is the most likely development and can be just as immersive cause using fullbody tracking haptic feedback and omnidirectional treadmills do a great job at it already and are continuously improving. On the topic of being addictive it isn't anymore addictive than video games in my opinion it's a fun thing to do in your free time but it's not difficult to stop. Of course Fulldive technology might be a whole other thing as there will be a disconnect from your body allowing you to do things impossible with your real body which might make it more addictive but that remains to be seen.

Tekbox

Yeah the one thing that I agree with the haters on is what happened to Asuna during the fairy arc which really was a bit questionable to say the least.

Tekbox

Yeah I loved those episodes and my only complaint is that they rushed things but that just goes in general for the first arc. they skipped so many floors where we could've gotten more story and a more natural development of their relationship.

Mrdevdev330

I would love to see a reaction to this show!

Mrdevdev330

Noooo there’s more openings!

NanoRyuusei

I think I've said it before on a youtube video but I'm going to repeat myself ! Sword Art Online brings real life stuff into its story and that's why the music sounds "heavy"!!! And that's also why people don't like this anime...And because they thought it would be JUST fights only in a game when no, there are stakes !! I sincerely think that you have to watch it and form your opinion rather than not watching it on the opinions of others ! Personally, I love all the seasons of this anime. I can't wait for you to watch it !!!

rostikowb

On the contrary, in my opinion, the real SAO began on the last arch of "Alicization"

Alinto

This series is structurally bad. but the concept and the emotional high stakes and comfy lows just carries it the whole way through. though it definitely has lows and highs and no matter who you ask to say one spot that is generally the worst, they will answer the same. As Tenmongaku said, you should watch it and form your own opinion

Gilgabro

You can't deny that the sao intros are fire even if the show is mostly shit.

Dr. A

I was about to comment about Kirito's fidget spinner when he pointed it out LMAO. SAO is fine as long as you don't think about the story or the characters. BTW there is canonically no in world reason for the game SAO to exist.

Dr. A

The cgi ground in op 3 is so bad looking back at it. LOL

Dr. A

In the movie it was AR (augmented reality) but the fat people moved like acrobats LMAO.

Dr. A

Unfortunately, I think the most interesting arc is Alicization and those openings you missed. Unfortunately again I don't like most of the characters.

Edward Of DOOM

"We're not really seeing the characters we saw in the beginning" *Gives you The People's Eyebrow* Interesting.

Travis

well, when you play a game, your characters dont always look the same every time you start a new game, do they? :)

Amadhe

I would love to see a reaction to SAO eventually. I think it's criminal how there are so few reactions to the entirety of the show.

Pete Bickmore

The main series just had terrible structural problems with it’s story beats. It has some real highs but then has other moments that just baffle as to why they would do that. SAO Abridged has ruined my ability to watch SAO anyway.

TheNDGhost

exactly this, SAO abridged is far too good compared to the original show.

Obscuremango

You did the same thing again you missed season 3a opening songs

Ian Campbell

Op 4 had me tear up a bit, that arc had so many emotions to it.

axilir21

Except part 2 of season 1, I think the show isn't as bad as people make it out to be

Jonathan McNair

There are 2 openings and 2 closers per a season and there are 4 seasons in SAO

ジェイス「 j a c e 」

dang i feel like hes ripping himself off giving everyone access to everything with with little to know money or as many as they want. but grateful cuz everything getting expensive aff

Christoph27

But it's also the reason there is so many patreon subscribers, so everyone wins
