I LOVE SEBAS!!!!

Here is the FULL and UNBLURRED reaction to OVERLORD Season 2 Episode 6!

Enjoy!!

Comments

Sai

Woo! Yes, Luke. Overlord is based on a light novel. Most Isekai are in fact.

AchmodinIV SWE

Brains cry before running away sounds exactly like Subarus

Michael

Overlord is based on a novel, and so are a lot of the anime you’ve reacted to. Most isekai are based on novels.

Suraj ayinde

Sea bass is all I can hear

Solar

overlord is based off a light novel. each book is between 300-800 pages, and about 3-4 episodes of the anime goes over a book. there's also about 10 short stories that between 20-80 pages long that cover random stuff from the real world to time spent in the actual game, as well as following random NPC's in nazarick.

Pascal winter

You think that overlord is written like a novel may come From the fact that the original source material is a novel not a manga

MostDakka

So yeah Sebas is by far the most "good" character in a guild full of evil people. In fact he's even more good than lizardmen were(who are mostly around neutral). Also I like that the anime doesnt explictly spell out what happened to the girl, you're an adult you can figure it out. Always like it when show doesnt treat its audience like dumbasses.

AchmodinIV SWE

I thought of that far cry 3 mission too when I saw the flames when watching your reaction

Lucas Gianini

"Overlord is written like a novel!" Who's gonna tell him?

TheBigOhm

The Overlord Light Novel had me hooked completely. It goes in to so much detail and flashes out side characters really well. 10/10 would recommend. Thay being said, I bought the LN in store, but read the fan translations online. The official English translated novels have alot of translation problems and just aren't written well. Just my 2 cents.

Solar

you've said a few time's now that the ending reminds you of made in abyss. probably because both endings for overlord season 2 and made in abyss season 2 are from MYTH & ROID

Nicki Noble

His full name is Sebas Tain. (Sebastian) An he's a bad A$$!!

dragonguard666

Sebas became one of my favourite characters in these episodes.

Ardane

Overlord feels like a novel because it is. It's a pretty gigantic story actually. I highly recommend either reading it or getting the audiobooks.

Custodio

You are correct on how Sebas thinks and acts. That´s partially due to his character settings (as you already understood, you mixed up the karma values. as a refresher: Sebas' karma is positive 300 (very good)). on top of that, Touch Me (remember the silver armor Ainz used in the "second phase" against shalltear) was a righeous and fair person, so naturally by the "rules" that make up their creation's personalities, Sebas is ALSO a very righeous NPC. And yes, you are entirely correct, Touch Me was indeed the person that saved Momonga in the early days. So it is no surprise how Sebas acted when facing someone in need. Well, about how Overlord is written: this may be a stretch, but maybe, JUST MAYBE, it may feel like a novel because IT IS BASED on a light novel. The anime and manga are only an adaption, but the source-material is a light novel. And despite the adaptation skipping over a lot of details and shortening a lot of stuff up, it doesn´t change that fact. So yeah, it´s no surprise that it feels like a LN, because yeah, it IS one. The voice-actress of Gagaran (the big woman with the hammer) is Kimiko Saitou. She also voiced Goriarde (Mushoku Tensei), Taishi's Mother (Oshi No Ko), Shibabawa (One Punch Man) and several characters in One Piece. So it´s no surprise that you recognized her voice.

Stefan

Do not throw trash in front of Sebas. Poor Epsilon, the suffering she had to endure. If this organisation was in JoJo, it would be called “Five Finger Death Punch”

Anonymous

I love Sebas

Nero Integrate

Showing a drug farm being burnt down by a random gang of adventurers Random gang of adventurers "Yeah we managed to burn down this drug farm" Cut to underground mafia "So we heard one of your drug farms was attacked" Luke "AH, SEBAS!"

Black Goku90

it seems like novel because it is from light novel after all

Matthew Williams

Luke, you do realize that pretty much the majority of every anime you have watched is based off of novels. Light novels but still novels, Slime, Overlord, SAO, 86, Solo Leveling, Gate, Hell's Paradise, Konosuba, Mushoku Tensei, No Game No Life, Re Zero, Tanya the Evil, Eminence in Shadow and Violet Evergarden. All of those anime are based off light novels, some other series you watched are based off manga and one or two are entirely original concepts. One original series Madoka Magica and Code Geass even had a light novel written based of the original anime series. But yeah if you see an anime it's safe to assume it is based off either a light novel or manga. Stiens Gate Was based off of a Visual Novel. FATE has so many light novels, games, visual novels and what not it's impossible to know where the anime adaptation come from. Oh, and sometimes the movies are based off short stories. Edit: I fixed my errors as Escobar pointed them out to me.

Muligan Shinzuo

We know by now that Ainz and all of nazarik are incredibly strong (in comparrison to the strongest of this kingdom). However someone was able to mind control Shalltear and who is saying that they could not do the same to Ainz himself? What if they have a way to instantly kill him (through an "cash shop item" or maybe some kind of anti-undead magic)? That is why Ainz himself is somewhat cautious.

Aeco

Pretty sure Solution ate Tuare's unborn fetus that she knew nothing of yet. That's what she was referring to. And, to be fair, that may have been for the best.

Matthew Williams

If we go by D&D standards every character from Nazerick would be Chaotic, it's just their nature. Many are Chaotic Evil, quite a few are Chaotic Neutral and a very small few like Sebas are Chaotic Good alignment.

John

Don't fear for Nazarick, fear for their enemies. Like the lizard men.

REY

I mean we already got introduced to a organization that has access to world items and almost mind controlled shalltear

Some0neElse

i think you got one thing wrong, Luke. Momonga always put Nazarik before anyone and anything else. So even in the first episodes he would do things that would benefit Nazarik... difference is that then with Carne village he acted somewhat on a whim and because he felt like Sebas was judging him. That triggered his memory of TouchMe.

KHlover

You pretty much nailed when we first got to see a hint of the female adventurer group, their silhouttes *did* show up for a few seconds in the first arc of season one.

Charles Fine

One thing about the Sebas vs Shaltear getting caught argument, is that Shaltear was in "berserk mode" kinda and generally not as strategic as many other guardians. Sebas is smarter plus he's ready to be targeted. Also power scaling a little (non-spoiler) Sebas, Cocytus, and Albedo play a rock paper scissor roll in power. Cocytus is pure offense, Albedo defense and Sebas balance between the two. Albedo beats Sebas, Sebas beats Cocytus and Cocytus beats Albedo.

Rainet

I thought that was funny, too xD He even pointed them out back at the time, so clearly he recognized them on some level

StrykerEvol

Cocytus and Sebas are definitely my favorite characters.

Hhound42

Ains is like an Oreo cookie, the human player being the white center and the Overlord character the dark cookie outer shell, and the character is slowly coloring the human player's persona.

StrykerEvol

I like how Solution is named Solution. She is a slime, which are canonically able to dissolve anything in their body. Like an acidic solution. So the name fits perfectly.

Escobar

You're correct but some of the animes on that list are not from light novels. Solo lvling, Code Geass, Fate, Jujutsu Kaisen, Steins Gate. Some the these do have light novels counter parts but these were based of the anime or visual novel ( technically not a novel).

Matthew Williams

Actually Solo Leveling did come from Web Novels originally and then Light Novels, the Manhwa was based off those. I didn't look online hard enough on the others Code Geass, you're correct it's like Madoka Magica where the LN's were written based off the anime. There are LN for JJK but you are also correct there those JJK LN were side stories, the anime was based off the Manga. You are also correct on Stiens Gate the LN were based off of the VN so those came first.

Zer0

Overlord started as a Novel series then a Light novel that is still ongoing with 16 volumes so far. It is typical for light novels to turn into manga to turn into anime. It's actually somewhat rare to find original animes not based on a manga series. The Overlord endings are drawn by the same illustrator as the light novel series, so-bin.

Reennji

The Excel with the characters updated to today's episode. If you notice any errors, feel free to let me know here ;) Link: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/11NNmjdwmuKYWeY-yTlbqHaYMDHCevYV454aB3dX0rY8/edit?usp=sharing

Zer0

Since you record in advanced, episode 9 has after credits.

Daniel Golas

Yeah you are not really worried about nazarick, its everybody else you worry about

Yea, so many of the names of this show are great for several different reasons. Even Sebas with his last name of Tian is just Touch Me cutting Sebastian in half

Dethrox

I wonder if he catch some nice detail.. which.. is so so sad.. :(( :D

charlymoon

"Overlord is written like a novel" Does he know?

WWEdeadman

25:42 Yeah, I immediately recognized her too. And yes, that is the same VA as one of Killua's brothers. Also Rem from Death Note.

Shawn Oxley

This is probably my favourite arc in the anime tbh some absolute chads in it like sebas gazef and brain

StrykerEvol

Sebastian, one of the traditional and infamous Buttler names. Especially since Black Buttler. Jup, it's such a good pick too.

William Armstrong

I wa sout working today so not sure my comment will get any attention on youtube this time so I will post it here as well 1:45 yes. Sebas has the highest Karma of all the characters we know, possibly the highest in all of Nazarick 2:45 One of Sebas’s objectives is to study the magic of the “New World” and obtain information on any spells that did not exist in Yggdrasil the game. 8:30 Yes Touch Me is the creator of Sebas 13:55 this scene had a very very dark undertone… Solution did in fact devour “something” there. 17:20 Yes, old men in anime have a very high chance of being badass warrior characters. You are thinking of Wilhelm by the way. 24:15 I mean that’s because it is a series of novels, Each one does exceed 3-400 pages, and they are written to a level of detail that approaches that of Lord of the Rings. Lots of other anime are also based on series of books so no its not rare in anime. Re-Zero, No game no life, Konosuba, Gate thus the JSDF fought there etc. were all based on a series of books. Though of those that you have seen the anime version of only Re-zero really approaches the level of depth that Overlord has the difference being that while Re-zero focuses more intensely on its characters and their mindsets, Overlord focuses more on the world and the societal logistics of the way countries work and how Nazarick’s “alien invasion” affects them 29:30 Ending 2 and 3 are my favorites and I find them highly impactful in context. I would strongly recommend you to let yourself watch the entire ending in context at least once around episode 11 or 12 to get the full effect once you have seen this seasons characters

Ceeneon

This is correct. IIRC I believe the two venereal diseases she referred to are implied to be twins in the novel/original Japanese. edit: it's "venereal", not "venerable" folks!

sqoualala

He said it was about Sebas when Cocco Doll was talking about a girl that was taken (Tuare). Don't try to act smart if you aren't.

rostikowb

I'm proud of you, Luke, you remembered some names 😂

Animeter

"Overlord is written like a novel". Well, it is a novel... lol

Mason D

Man, I've forgotten how late my favorite party gets introduced and when we get to meet the "princess".

Kamil Butala

Sebas is a goat cant wait for the upcoming episodes :)

BanTheUndead

Inze largely is influenced by the guardians around him, he tries to live up to their expectations of him while working to improve Nazeric. Him being evil is part him willing to do anything for his guild, part him losing touch with his humanity and emotions, and part the influence of the more evil karma individuals like Demi. Him saving the village in season one was because Sebas wanted to save the village and Inze not wanting him to be disappointed in him. Also when he in acts like the elf twins mom when their alone.

GhostZethAaa

Another anime that does a great job at making you feel for the side characters is My Hero Academia btw. And yes, overlord is based on a novel

Nero Integrate

@sqoualala wow I never imagined that under a comment about Luke being clueless I'd meet a person even more clueless. That's crazy.

rostikowb

- We all love Sebas - Side characters and their mini stories are the best part of this anime - Overlord is really light novel, just like Mushoku Tensei, Re Zero, Slime and most isekai - So far it seems that there is no strong opponent for Nazarik, but who knows, maybe a team of heroes will appear to defeat the Demon King and his minions :)

Hamza Stiti

"overlord is written like a novel" hmmmmmmm I wonder why

Hikari Ai

Well, Overlord IS a novel. A light novel, the adaptation actually skips over many things, details and even minor plotlines because otherwise the anime would need to have twice as many episodes.

rostikowb

I had forgotten that Solution ate that girl's unborn child, a reminder of how dark this anime is...

Escobar

Oh really, I thought it was the other way around for Solo Lvling. Hmm... I should probably check them out then. Light novels are usually more info pack than the other mediums so it may be interesting.

Subaquatic Toaster

I almost admire your ability to forget the whole scene you literally just watched because they showed a pair of boobs for 3 seconds 😂

Kohta Don

The line "Overlord does an amazing job for making you feel for the background characters" is so spot on. In the light novel even more so. The old dude from season 1 that rose the undead army, had a whole sad backstory on why he is where he is.

Gamefisher

Is Luke really so naïve to believe a man when he's caught carrying a beaten woman in a sack and he says, "oh, I...I was just taking her to the temple because she was sick"? The guy was going to dump her in a ditch somewhere.

Thamor

Wilhelm von Astrea is Re:Zero Butler/Sword Master and yeah they have that anime old butler vibes, this is a common trope for this type of character. Maybe Lord Touch Me was fan of Re:Zero while creating Sebas :D

Hououin Kyouma

Overlord is a novel series and you are watching the anime adaptation of the novel. You have watched at least two other anime I can think of off the top of my head that are also anime adaptation of novels with really well-written characters. There are so many anime adaptations based on novels instead of manga. Please try to pay a little more attention and try not to assume every anime is based on manga.

Lloyd

The one guy that looks like jojo in every show is because everything is a jojo reference. Everything.

Honky

Nahhh am i buggin or is that person sebas talks to at the very start the voice of HxH narrator?

Thamor

I just had to add this as got to Luke's rant "Overlord feels like a novel..." well BECAUSE IT'S FROM A LIGHT NOVEL STORY. Sorry for caps couldn't help this...

Hwiyeop Kim

oh is that why she was talking about turning her back into status before all the injuries? damn

john cody ramsey

lol written like a novel, like maybe a light novel, like the light novel its actually adapted from? also, you think this show it dark? the light novel is waaaay darker, the show is a kids show compared to the light novel. also Solution is part of the slime race, all the maids are a different race.

TheElementalerWars

I can't wait for S3 so Luke can see the cute baby goats

rostikowb

@Hwiyeop Kim At 13:50, she literally made an abortion tool out of her fingers, I don't know exactly what this thing is called, but I googled it and that's what it looks like. And of course she ate it, because she eats people, Sebas said not to harm only the girl. I'm sure it's more explicit in LN. If anyone remembers, you can add to it.

Link

It will always be funny to me that Sebas full name Sebas Tian is just the name Sebastian split in half. Then again he was named by a guy that named his own character TouchMe so he was probably not the best at naming things :D

Michael

I know right, the baby goats are so cute, Luke will probably want one as a pet

Michael

Luke other people have said it but just so you understand how dark the series is and how the anime is “censoring” a lot of it, but Solution literally ate the girls unborn child while she was healing her because Sebas only said not to harm the girl.

Michael

Luke is gonna love Sebas even more, and then that one scene with Ainz and Cocytus will happen then he’s gonna be like “WAIT, WHAT THE HELL” calling it.

Zigawits

The big guy saying he was going to take her to the temple was probably a lie. Sebas was lifting him by the collar so he lied to get Sebas to calm down. About it being like a novel, the series does a pretty good job of going a long with the light novel. The anime omits a decent amount of stuff because it has to, but it hits the major plot points. If you are looking for a new book series to read I would recommend the Overlord light novel. It is still a good read if you watched the anime first.

ArtKi

26:19 "Who are the 8 fingers?" 26:20 Question answered. Luke still has the touch!

Sigfried

overlord is a light novel like sword art online and a lot of other anime

Matthew Williams

They didn't leave that much out of the Manhwa from the LN a lot of it was just exposition, but I think it's worth reading.

axilir21

Honestly, Sebas is my favorite character in the entire show

Sai

She likes those baby back ribs with BBQ sauce.

Sai

Yeah, this is how people should view it when they watch. It's the world that is in danger.

axilir21

He's going to say that when Solution talks with Ainz about you know what ...

Paul

You said you didn't know who did that to Shaltear. Ainz and Nazarik have no idea, but we the viewers know which group did that. At the very beginning of Season 2 episode 1 two new characters talked about their subjugation group running into an unknown Vampire-like undead. Shortly after that they talk about how the sunlit scripture was wiped out by Ainz Ooal Gown, which confirms they're a part of the Slane Theocracy.

Frentzy

Summary of OVERLORD: Everyone is one punch man, so we have to focus on secondary character's backstory. Otherwise it would be too boring.

Tamus Heath

Oh, she's here :), she's a genuinely great character that one

Tamus Heath

A little way in advance, but absolutely yes, what a page in the light novel that was

Nihilistic Blue

the female slime maid turned one hand into a pair of forceps....used in abortions, she had a snack.

JR

Funny you say Overlord is written like a novel. You might say its a...light novel. xD Jokes aside I would recommend picking up the novels after watching the anime, it will give you a lot of additional context you aren't getting from the anime for some of these scenes and what's happened around these scenes. The things like the characters stats and how they lean in terms of good to evil / how they were designed / their motivations, etc.

BRUNO Marques

While technically a light novel... Each book was actually too long to be a light novel and the publisher eventually forced the author to split books into 2-3 "light novels". Made for some odd cliff hangers and pacing issues in later books.

Ultraporing

Indeed. The page was riveting :D. Also the Audiobook version was kinda funny, poor voice actor person.

JR

Lol that's fair, I was just making a dumb joke at Luke's comment.

FaerieRose

Yeah, Sebas does seem pretty cool. Day 36 requesting that we watch Ascendance of a Bookworm after Vinland Saga.

Gandulf

Luke for the love of god. Stop asking questions that were answered 2 minutes ago.

Dakhran

To be fair, there was a pair of boobs in between the scenes, apparently his brain went into goldfish mode when the other head woke up…

Robert Becker

A good portion Anime are adapted from Novels so it makes sense that you would make that comparison. Overlord is a series of Light Novels.

idkwhy

This story with Sebas is one of my favorite of all the seasons

Anonymous

My eyes always water everytime I watch this ep with Sebas.

Antoine Jones

the guy wasnt taking her to a temple.. he was lying to save his ass obviously. Which in the dub you can tel its a lie clearly just by how he says it and thus you wouldnt have have actually believed that..... i mean even without being able to hear it in his voice it should be pretty obvious its a lie... Iike you said... Hes taking her to the temple.... in a bag.... that he just threw on the streets? Come on now

Kintor

The same for me as well, Sebas really shines as a character here. I've been waiting for the day the reaction videos finally reached this story arc.

Marcio Neves

Gotta say that Sebas Tian is the kindest person from all of Nazarick, by far 😊

Marcio Neves

Heck, yeah, the 5 best girls are here already. I though it would take longer for them to show up :D

Marcio Neves

30:00 the silhouette of the 5 women was shown in an episode of season 1, indeed. They didn't ring a bell because you haven't watch the anime, yet. One of them were mentioned by that psycho girl that was squised by Momonga as being "on par" with her, alongside Gazef, Brain and... "another one"

Erwan Vanden

Scene 1: New girl characters burn a field of drugs Scene 2: Character is talking about her drug plant being destroyed Luke: Did Sebas do this ? xD

Overlord_Ashalon

The viewer/reader was told what happened with Shalltear. The Slane Theocracy were out there on an unrelated matter (they said why, but i've forgotten) Shalltear's family out looking for the Ranger stumbles on them and gets killed she runs over to see what happened a short battle in sues with Shalltear killing 2 and wounding the old woman who used a World Level item on Shalltear but as she was wounded she was unable to give Shalltear any commands so Shalltear just stood there till Ains attacked her. Ains however doesn't know any of what i've just said because Shalltear can't remember anything from shortly before she was mind controlled.

Overlord_Ashalon

The monocle Sebas wears to read the book allows him to read this world's language, since no one in Nazaric knows it.

Overlord_Ashalon

Um. It. It is a novel (most Isekai are), this anime is based on a series of novels of the same name. As of right now there are 16 volumes translated to English and I think the author has finished the web novel with only a few volumes left in the light novel. Honestly, by the next time a new season of Overlord is released the novel itself will have been completed

Angga Rizkiyannoor

Well overlord is ligt novel, same with mushoku tensei, slime, sword art online, and there is ton of anime adaptation from light novel

Overlord_Ashalon

The reason some are hiding their faces is because they don't matter and to cut down on budgets you don't draw/animate unimportant peoples faces. Same concept as to why soldiers always wear closed face helms in cartoons and anime. That is, unless they get some focus, then there could be other reasons.

Kyle David Barnes

"This poor woman. Everything she's gone through." It's not over yet. The real gut punch has yet to come.

Jake Smith

Are you sure she didn’t eat anything…

Dersimcan Bulut

Actually a lot of animes are based out of novels and overlord is one of them :)))))))

Tom Boggess

"overlord is like a novel." that's because it is. it's a light novel series.

Harley Burnie

"A handkerchief that goes unused is a thing to be mourned." Sebas is one of my all time favorite anime characters of all, along with Wilhelm, the Re:Zero old dude. The fact that Luke believes that asshole about "taking her to Temple" is alarming. No human who is genuinely caring for a heavily injured girl is going to transport her in a filthy sack, after TOSSING her bodily I to the alley. I honestly thought/hoped Luke was memein' for the first couple of seconds. That dude was "getting rid of the evidence," man. I guess Luke actually has no idea that most animes are an adaptation of a light novel or manga series, then. That's pretty disappointing, because I k ow he's severely enjoyed most of the animes he's reacted to, yet he's likely to never follow up on the novels that continue those amazing stories. If forced to only enjoy one of either anime, light novel, or manga, I'd choose to keep light novels every damn time.

Nathan McCabe

After watching your Overlord reaction videos it's hard to believe you when you forget a name. It's easy to mistake a name for someone else but I don't think you forget names as much as you did at the start of your anime journey.

Fabien

I assume a gazillion people already told you by now, but Overlord IS a novel, originally. I'm actually only moderately enjoying the anime, while I loved the novel, or maybe, "because" I loved the novel. Most of the informations are missing in the adaptation and some stuff were changed to simplify things. Even the battles seem way less epic in the anime tbh. But well it's cool, I'm still enjoying as it reminds me of that story I've read like 5 years ago (up to the available content back then). I still think the studio could have done a better job though, but maybe I'm just too demanding.

Ricardo Fierro

imean, overlord is based on a light novel,so that is why it seems like movies or so,on theintroduction of characters
