I have a suggestion - Let's have a dedicated shojo/josei slot (as it seems the main slot is booked till the end of the year, if really after Overlord comes Demon slayer and Mob Psycho 100)

Luke, I think you should have a category that is your own pick. Because at this rate, great series that are to your tastes will never get picked since people tend to rate anime based on animation and recency rather than story nowadays.

Shojo does not = Romance. It is a marketing term meaning directed at girls and women. This list represented that variety with 2 Romance, 1 music show, 1 Political Thriller(with battles), and 1 classic iconic magical girl show.

This was a fun stream, glad you enjoyed so many of the shows. It seems like you particularly liked the romance shows, so maybe that should be the first themed/genre anime tournament. Either that or drama. Once again, with how much you liked certain shows here, I think you would absolutely love March Comes in Like a Lion and Your Lie in April.

Most romance shows are 7-8/10 minimum. Ofc you will enjoy a 7-8 show. Even if he likes romance I believe his main genre is shounen. He 'likes' shoujo, he is 'excited' about shounen. You can just see his reaction to solo leveling ep 1 and compare those facial expressions with him during the stream.

What’s with the negativity? Why do you care if he watches a show that isn’t shounen every now and then? The whole point of this stream was to let him watch shows that he normally wouldn’t, but are really good. He seemed really into Kimi Ni Todoke and Kids on the Slope to me, and has stated before that one of his favorites was Violet Evergarden. This whole idea of “this is my favorite genre so I won’t watch anything else” is really limiting. Almost every show he is watching is shounen, so is it really that big of a deal to let fans of other genres/demographics have their fun too?

I knew you'd like Kids on the slope, amazing coming of age music series, and there are many music/ sports anime that give off similar vibe and it's a wild different ride from your shounen/action/fantasy anime

For me, Cardcaptor Sakura is just an ideal CLAMP anime that just gets more involved and better as it goes. It is geared to a younger audience, but I don't think of it as point against it really as it's rarely straight up childish. My favorite thing about it is how she uses her new cards to capture additional cards. The way they think their way out of problems is a highlight.

CCS, the show is geared thoward the female audience.,. so in detail explanation of the outfits helps both artists, but also cosplayers... and a lot of these are on the simpler side to make so even children can attempt these cosplays. (why that is i dont want to say cause its story spoiler) CCS is also an old style television broadcast show, meaning each episode has a start and an ending, so you wont get "oh man the 1st episode got me totally hooked for more!" feeling, because it has an "ending". meaning every episode will have an opponent, and her defeating said opponent.. thats just how the old television stuff works.

@Tatersaled666 agreed on all points except that He actually hasn't watched very much Shonen at all Hunter xHunter is the only Shonen he is currently watching. The shonen he has watched so far are: One Punch Man, Dr. Stone, and Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood,jujutsu Kaisen, and Chainsaw man. He has watched way more Isekai and Fantasy series than either proper Shonen or Shojo/ Drama/ Romance

I NEVER watched My Love Story. But based on them showing that folktale at the beginning... I do have a feeling like the blond guy (Blue Oni) is actually going to try and make himself be hated by the girl (Village People) so the big guy (Red Oni) has a chance for a happy life. Which will probably result in many funny misunderstandings... But that's just my interpretation after 1 episode.

From the anime series only Violet Evergarden seems to be in the middle, Madoka is not shoujo (corrected). The rest are for sure targeting male audiences, not all are shounen some are seinen but the fanservice is for me one of the clues 😁

Yona of the Dawn is good but ends halfway through the story. Animes are like that sometimes. One gripe I have is the sound mixing in the first few episodes left the music overpowering the dialogue.

Cardcaptor Sakura is an excellent watch. It hits all the marks of a classic magical girl and has so much character. Even if you might not have loved the first episode, I'm sure it would grow on you if it ever wins a vote in the future.

Molesters on trains is a real problem in Japan. The culture of not making a fuss or bothering others, and the fact that it would be the woman's word against the man's, makes it hard to stand up to. It's way too big a problem to be solved by catching and punching some rando who does it, but I won't argue that it isn't satisfying to see! And oh look, you can do it without sexualizing the girl or turning it into fanservice. Who knew?
