Greetings, everyone!

Version 0.2.3 is now out, which addresses most of the bugs I've been made aware of. I also added some visual effects to the healing minigame, which I think make it more fun.

Here's the link: https://mega.nz/#!ADoDXTCL!uwgg1_2sWzgdTihu9yGZdQav4Ir8DfZzI3f9BE1bE6k

I'll be linking this post on some of the subreddits, so I apologize to my patrons who already know this, but here's a brief rundown of the game:

---

The Proteus Effect is a lighthearted roleplaying adventure game where you take on the role of a down-on-his-luck guy who lands the job of his dreams as a playtester at a virtual-reality game company. Things don't turn out quite as he plans, however, and he soon finds himself both trapped in the virtual world and stuck in the body of a nubile young woman.

Join the hero and his companions on their adventures through the fanasty-themed worlds as they try to figure out what's behind the game's strange malfunctions and ultimately find a way home.

The game is made with RPG Maker MV, the latest version of the RPG Maker engine, so the playstyle is similar to the old Final Fantasy games. If you've played RPG Maker games before, you'll be glad to know everything you need to play is included in the download (MV doesn't need RTP packages).

---

Now that the description is done, here's some news for $10+ patrons: the first patron picture pack, with high-rez versions of the game's H-scene images, will probably be out over the weekend. The renders take a really long time at the level of detail I'm using, and my renderer has let me down a couple of times - I thought it was diligently working, but it was just loafing off. Anyway, I think you'll like it!

Now, for the changelog:

Added visual effects to healing minigame

Resolved issue that could trap players in the old adventurers' house

Resolved issue that could send players to level that shouldn't be in game

Saves are again located in save folder rather than local app data folder

Resolved issue that could cause healing minigame to restart after winning it

Resolved player character's strange fear of butterflies

Player can no longer move (and potentially softlock game) during dungeon cutscene

Resolved issue that could prevent some players from re-entering first dungeon

Resolved issue that could cause game to request nonexistent assets

One of the few true gems among RPG Maker games. An exceptional mix of well paced writing, light humor, and good art. Can't wait to play the fix!

Thanks for the hardwork! and congratulations on reaching the $300 mark!

But what's the news for us $20 patrons? ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°)

proxxie

I’ll discuss the magic 8 ball (or whatever I eventually decide to call it) in the next development update. The place where I put patron names in-game won’t be out for a while, I’m afraid.

So will I be able to put in "Mmm, I love big, dark futa cocks!" every time he drink milk? ;)

OhioOkie

Thanks for the update. I made it to the end but could not complete the minigame. Probably I have just too slow of finger to finish the 3rd wave. But I love the test in the dream. The question on the Feyman diagram was brilliant.

Toastender

Would you consider to add pressing NUM 0 instead of escape? gotten so used to it from other rpgmaker games.

proxxie

I'll look into it. Someone else reported this, too. I didn't even know that was a thing - I use a tenkeyless. That also means it will be difficult for me to test.

Mars68

Had to quit playing 2.2 because I also could not complete the healer's minigame. Does 2.3 have a way to skip it, or make it easier? If not, I won't bother to download it.

OhioOkie

No. But I did put them in my d and d game. But there were 5 physicist in it. The oral part of my qualifier was on exotic atoms even though I went into condense matter.

OhioOkie

Mars68 you don't have to play it to get to the end. I don't know the reward I missed. But I could not defeat any mobs later. Just avoid them.

proxxie

I'm not going to reveal much about myself on a public channel, but as you probably guessed, I know exactly what you're talking about.

proxxie

As OhioOkie says, you do not have to win the minigame to progress in the story. The things you get are pretty useful, tho.

proxxie

You get a new outfit (with improved stats) and a cure poison spell.

OhioOkie

Maybe after trying 5 times you slow things down for some of is.

Mars68

I generally hate playing games that have fast reaction mini-games. After a half-dozen tries, I get frustrated and quit playing the game.
