hey lgr. have you ever heard of the game called "the ultimate ride: roller coaster"? it was the roller coaster game i played when i was a kid. i first heard about it from a demo disk i got from something like a cereal box (i cant actually remember where it was from) but i eventually got the full game a few years later. i liked it because at the time i really wasn't interested in the whole amusement park manager part of roller coaster stuff, i was just into the idea of riding and designing my own roller coasters. so i spent hours and hours making rides and trying to fill the most space the game would give me with tracks so that i could make the longest and craziest coasters. if you ever decide to review that game, id watch it.

I have indeed! It is (sort of) a spiritual follow-up to Disney's earlier game, Coaster, which I reviewed here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4LKVvHyQv_4

The team are excellent. I know they will work hard to improve paths and coater building. I find paths tedious and they should be minor. I think they will fix 'em.

I have to agree on that. They've also been actively supporting Elite Dangerous whilst developing this one so I am hopeful they keep on improving the game. Already spent 13 hours with it myself :P

Okay you've certainly caught my interest with this! Finally a newer game like this! Customization has me quite intrigued. Things I had wished were available in Roller Coaster Tycoon 3.

I am forever amused that a) dragging and dropping people in these type of games never gets old, and b) a lack of ability to wreck havoc on your theme park is always a strike against the game, haha.

I cannot get on with the construction part in this game, along with the lack of "themes" included just made me disappointed and stressed out. Sadly refunded it after 5 hours gameplay because it wound me up so much - which is a shame as I love rollercoaster tycoon.

Jim Guthrie does some amazing work with soundtracks and just music in general. I really like the little remix album thing he did with Solid Mas.

Nice! Yeah a new game in this vein (that's actually good) has been long overdue. RCT3 was awesome for what it was at the time, but it's certainly showing its age.

LazyGameReviews

Heh, as long developers call their game a "simulation," and that simulation involves human beings, I just naturally expect chaos.

LazyGameReviews

Dang, that sucks! But yeah, the lack of themes and overly-complex construction options can be a real turn-off. Steam Workshop only alleviates that so much, since you still have to seek out and download things yourself.

LazyGameReviews

Haven't heard that one from him, will look into it! I also really enjoyed his Superbrothers: Sword & Sworcery EP work.

LazyGameReviews

Yep! Same studio behind RCT3 and RCT2's expansion packs. And there are a *lot* of reasons why RCT World sucks, haha, but the people involved is definitely one of them. Mostly on the publisher side, as the developers seem to have had their hands rather tied.

How about a best modern day tycoon game list? Like stuff that was released in the past 5 years and should be able to run on any current day system (as in no old OS is needed) Any ideas what should be on that list?
