It has been a long, long time since we've done an LGR Q&A. Let's change that! With a whole decade of the show having just passed by it seems like the perfect time to me.

Ask anything you want and I'll answer it honestly! Within reason of course. Only one inquiry per person, please. And to keep things interesting, avoid yes/no questions and things like "will you review/cover X" :)

This'll eventually be in public video form too, so if you don't want your Patreon username shown for whatever reason then just tell me upfront.

Also, not knowing how many questions will result from this I do not know if answering every single one will be feasible. I may have to combine questions or choose some arbitrary number of 'em.

But yeah, bring it on folks! I am ready to A some Qs.

When will the IBM PS/2 documentary be made? Really looking forward to that.

I’m sure this isn’t the most original question out there, but what’s your holy grail? By that I mean what object that exists, that you either own or don’t represents something you have always wanted to get your hands on? It can even be nostalgic like something you had as a kid that is long gone. Your video about the arcade game brought this to mind since I get the impression you’re genuinely passionate about old arcade games but you’ve never collected any... until now!

When playing through an adventure game (either for review or pleasure) do you resort to walk-throughs to keep the flow going? If so, have any criteria for when you finally give in and allow yourself to look up the solution? I know I play some mental gymnastics to justify this sometimes, curious how the "pros" handle it ;)

DOSdaze

Good question, this was my first thought as well.

Out of all the items you found in thrift stores over the years, what item (or possibly items) is your favorite find of all time?

Anonymous

Other than retro tech, what other retro items do you collect?

As a YouTube Creator, I would love to know more about your workflow. What's involved in the production of a typical LGR episode? For example, how much time is spent writing scripts, filming, editing, etc. It would also be cool if you briefly highlighted some of the software/hardware you use (cameras, which I know you've mentioned before, mics, post production, etc. etc.).

Have you ever considered combining LGR Thrift and travelling? Ex. going to Europe or Japan to, of course experience the culture, but also to trift? The second hand market can vary alot from continent to continent. and maybe even tell alot about the different countries, it's economic state throughout the years and so on...

What do you plan or hope to do after you retire from making LGR?

Judging by what little I've seen, we have a very similar taste in music, especially in regards to techno and trance. Are there any favourites you still listen to in that genre? Also, did you know Rom Di Prisco is still doing music and it's still in the same sound as his Need For Speed soundtracks?

If you could obtain an Intel InBoard\386, would you deck out an IBM 5160 (retaining the original motherboard) to be a 486 beast for the heck of it with the appropriate upgrades? (Say you had at least two of these machines, one original an one upgraded.) For more information on what I'm talking about, here's something I learned about today regarding that machine: https://pcpartpicker.com/b/krYrxr

If you had to pick a specific year of technology to be "stuck" in, what year would it be and what would be your reasoning for it?

Anonymous

Do you think more modern tech will offer as much nostalgia factor in the future as the stuff you feature? Or do you think the rose tinted wood grained CRT tape decks of old are the golden age of nostalgia?

ogspeace

what's your favorite adventure/point-and-click game? i discovered your channel through your lets plays with pushinguproses a while back, and i was just curious, being that you're into retro tech and software and all. more power, and also a fan of LGR foods!

This question is somewhat related to the one asked by '13Cubed' earlier: Although the style of your videos has evolved, naturally, throughout this 10 years, but the essence is always the same. What or whom would you say are your influences? You spoke a little about the 'experimental aspect' of YT when you started; can you identify what inspired your style back then and what's the process that you go through when deciding changes? Edit: I'd like my alias to remain private on the video, if you answer. Thanks!

Ever been recognized in public?

LGR Tech Tales are my favorite episodes of yours. What would you need to make more of them? More time, more money, more demand? Or something else?

Anonymous

Is there a piece of old tech which you would love to get your hands on which ultimately is likely just a pipe dream?

Anonymous

How do you come up with the topics for your videos? Do you find it hard to think of new topics to cover or are you full of ideas and can't choose which one to make?

Anonymous

Not tech related, but what is your musical background like? I've caught bits and pieces of you explicitly mentioning your prowess in some of your videos, but unless I've missed it, I've never heard you talk about it specifically or at length. As a musician who loves LGR, I would love to hear about it!

Anonymous

Among the weirder and more generic questions here, but have you ever considered starting up a Discord server or IRC channel (or something else of the like)?

Anonymous

In an early video you had Board of Canada also in a Facebook post, once, you posted a song by Northcape (which introduced me to them, thank you!) What other music do you like that people might not know about?

Anonymous

Hey Clint! First of all I just want to say congratulations on surpassing 10 years of LGR! Over the course of ten years has the process of creating videos become easier with regards to script writing, filming, editing & overall workflow? I remember editing MiniDV footage in After Effects on a Windows XP machine 10 years ago and just the rendering process alone took forever. These days I edit my GH5 footage on a MacBook in Final Cut Pro X and I think it's fair to say we take this kind of technology for granted sometimes. It'd be interesting to hear your thoughts on how your experience and the technology/hardware you've used over the years has shaped your perspective on creating LGR videos. Keep up the good work man!

What do you think is the future of Edutainment software, especially considering how most children use phones and tablets instead of PCs?

Steve Skafte

Do you wish to pursue any longer-format filmmaking, such as a documentary series on other platforms? Given the opportunity and budget, would you expand Tech Tales into something involving more location shooting, interviews, and so on? I'd love to watch a countrywide roadtrip of Thrifts.

What are your best arguments to convince new comers that computer history is worth exploring?

Anonymous

A lot of your videos seem to have really long lead times nowadays, especially the ones where you have to track down a specific version of some software from 25 years ago to even see if some hardware you bought works. How do you keep track of what things go with each other when you are juggling multiple videos at once?

I have found curious compact cassette drive for a PC Windows 98/ME circa 1997 (patented in 1999). Can you review Pc Cassette Drive (still sold at http://www.pittjug.org/catalog/multimedia_speakers/2/pc_cassette_drive_61.html )? I'm by no means affiliated with them.
