After this small update I'll be working on DLSS3 for Skyrim, so there won't be another update very soon.

ChangeLog

Hotfix1

  • Fixed ReShade recompiling every time when entering a new scene.

Build 10

  • Added UltraQuality for all three upscalers.
  • Updated XeSS to v1.1.0
  • Expose motion vectors to ReShade effects such as RTGI, they can work better now.
  • You need to update to ReShade 5.8.0 to use this new feature.

How to modify RTGI to use real motion vectors

  1. Disable MotionEstimation effects if you were using it for RTGI.
  2. Open qUINT_rtgi.fx, find the line

sampler sMotionVectorTex { Texture = texMotionVectors;  };

  • Change it to

texture motionTex : MOTION;

sampler sMotionVectorTex         { Texture = motionTex;  };

INSTALLATION

  1. Install as any other SKSE plugin, using MO2 or Vortex would be the best way.
  2. Make the game run in Borderless instead of Fullscreen, see the IMPORTANT part below for how to do that.
  3. Slide DOF all the way to the left in the settings.
  4. Turn off ENB Edge AA and DOF (If you play at high enough resolution you can still try to use ENB's DOF, but if you can't stand the jittery just turn it off).
  5. Press END in the game to open the menu for upscalers.
  6. (Optional) Install Reshade for DOF if you really want DOF. I recommand the CinematicDOF with aperture set to 12-15, and focal length around 90,  and near plane max blur 0.
  7. If you use ReShade, make sure it's at least 5.6.0, to know this check dxgi.dll's version.
  8. Note that you can't change quality level at runtime, you'll need to change it in the ini and restart the game.

IMPORTANT: If you are using SSE Display Tweaks, open SSEDisplayTweaks.ini and set Fullscreen = false and BorderlessUpscale = false. Remember to remove the # before them or they won't take effect.

If you are not using it, set bFull Screen = 0 in SkyrimPrefs.ini

If you are using detection meter, make sure it's at least v17.

Yayyy!!!

CptTombstone

Awesome work, much appreciated! Are you working on Frame Generation for Skyrim at the moment? If so, how difficult is it?

Richard Costa

How are the FPS rates with this installed?

The Lost

installing this version is giving me overall 10-20 fps drop with DLSS mode Ultra #4 kept same settings from previous version, reshade starts to recompile shaders everytime i enter an area such as towns, caves etc

PureDark

UltraQuality means larger render resolution therefore less fps, it's for those who has extra GPU power and want better image quality but can't afford the cost of DLAA. About ReShade recompiling yeah it's with the new feature ReShade added in 5.8.0, I might think of a way to bypass it in the future, untill then you can avoid it by unchecking render ReShade before upscaling.

PureDark

I have kind of got it working in Elden Ring(see my last post), it shouldn't be too hard but it's tedious.

PureDark

Link your discord to patreon and then you'll automatically join the server, then you can ask in the server. Or you can post the SkyrimUpscaler.log via DM, search for it in Documents.

Quiet Gaming

Hi PureDark, can you provide any tips on eliminating ghosting with FSR 2? I'm not too sure what to do with the fov slider as nothing I change seems to have any effect.

PureDark

I don't really know, cuz FSR2 has always been worse for me in games with official implementations, maybe it's just how it works.

Mat wilson

Does this mean you are now looking into frame generation for skyrim?

Mat wilson

Also, motion vectors with RTGI. Is this so that the RTGI effect from reshade can piggy back off the progress from your dlss implementation. In other words, so rtgi can seem more integrated because that work has already been done with dlss?

PureDark

RTGI has no much connection with DLSS. If you have used RTGI before you would know that RTGI rely on fake motion vectors to work(not entirely but will work better with it), and it's using the MotionEstimation shader which use optical flow to guess the motion vectors. I simply exposed the real motion vectors generated by the game engine for RTGI to use.

TXplitcitxTNx

How do I change the image quality settings? It's on Ultra and the arrow button is grayed out when I try to click on it. Thanks for the hard work btw. Community appreciates it!

PureDark

You can only change the quality level in the included ini config file then restart the game.

Abdullah

Excited to try the new build

Thomas Betts

Is there a comprehensive guide on how to install this? I tried to use it with my mod list and Rudy ENB and I could not get it to work. I would get to the main menu and it would freeze.

PureDark

I would suggest linking your discord to patreon and join the server. And freezing means you didn't switch from fullscreen to borderless.

Valstorm Warsong

Is there anyway to take real screenshots with this plugin? right now all the screenshots are pixilated?

PureDark

Use external tools to take screenshots, such as GeForce Experience or just Steam.

Aaron Fernandez

I've been getting pixelation on my whole screen when using DLSS

Aaron Fernandez

I resolved it by disabling skyrim display tweaks, even though I made the necessary ini file changes.

Xgatt

I'm having a consistent crash on startup, and I'm certain I've followed the instructions here. Any idea what's happening? https://pastebin.com/4nZpdKy1

PureDark

You may wanna post the SkyrimUpscaler.log, but best way to get support is to link your discord on patreon and ask in the server.

Xgatt

turns out i hadn't updated drivers for my 3080 in like... 7 months

KillmongerSwe

FPS indoor cells: 120-144. Outside: 60-80. Mostly 2-4k parallax textures, rudy enb, nolvus reshade, 3060ti. Thank you, this is nuts. Edit: Quality Level: Balanced.

Cyb3rBetrayal

i get sudden freezes on loading screens within 3 minutes of gameplay on average

PureDark

Do you use ReShade? If so try unchecking the render before upscaling option. If not try playing on a new MO2 profile, see if it's the same in vanilla.

Hansley Elwinn Go

For some reason my rain drops are gone from ENB Tested between this and my last use of Upscaler for ENB Test Build 07 hotfix which has the rain drops

Hansley Elwinn Go

Unfortunately my rain is at max opacity and lowest transparency 😔 I'll try to tweak it further

Luca Barbieri Sosa

Maybe asked before, but what should we do if we're using water for enb and the visibility underwater depends on depth of field?

PureDark

If you just slide the DOF slider all the way to the left, it won't break the underwater.

Leek

Hi is this okay to use with the Nvidia Reflex mod?

Leek

Thanks for the timely reply and thank you for the amazing mod

Hansley Elwinn Go

Yeah I tried tweaking all the transparencies and blurriness options in the ENB still no rain drops. I can only see the impact of rain in the ground.

Bruce

Sorry to sound like a newbie on this (because I am) but I waited to download the ENB test build until some of the kinks were worked out. Where do I change the DOF and Edge EE? I have the rest adjusted from the instructions. And then what do I do? Run the game at a lower resolution but upscale to my current (or higher?). How do you get the menu for this to popup to make these changes? Just remembered you have the non-ENB version of Nexus so I'll check there for answers as well... EDIT: OK, I did find Mern's video tutorial that told me where to change those questions above, but that sounded like a lot of it was geared towards the non-ENB version. Do we need the BaseUpscalerPlugin with this version? I'm assuming everything else will be the same? I guess there are a few more options in the ini settings. With a 2080ti, I9-10980XE, 256GB RAM and a very large load order (1800+) what mQualityLevel should I be looking at to select?

PureDark

DOF in the ENB menu, under ShaderParameters. EdgeAA is in enblocal.ini. You don't have to change the resolution, upscaler handles that automatically, you only need to change settings to your liking in the included SkyrimUpscaler.ini, there's comments in it that explains the options. Press END in-game to open the menu, if you don't have END because you are on laptop, just change the keycode in the ini.

Bruce

Thank you very much... let's see how badly I can botch this up today... :)

009

Great work !! But, It isn't work for a REAL upscale I have QHD Monitor and want to display 4K But cause of requirement (borderlessupscale=false) It isn't fit with my monitor, It goes over the screen So, I had to use DSR(Nvidia Dynamic Super Resoultion) for a fit Should I have to do this everytime I launch the game? It makes me dizzy Is it made for just framerates?

PureDark

There's tool to automate that process. And I am sorry that this wasn't meant for DSR usage but rather upscale to the monitor resolution for gaining FPS.

009

Noo, You don't have to sorry. I was just curious Thanks :)

009

If you don't mind could you tell me that Program? I can find about only resize not automate. Sorry to bother you

PureDark

use autoactions to make the process automatic upon skyrim.exe detection https://github.com/Codectory/AutoActions

I checked in BethINI, windowed & borderless, and in skyrimprefs bFullScreen = 0, i maybe missing other one to check?

PureDark

There could be other issues, but comment section isn't really the best place to do troubleshooting, just ask in the discord server.

Hi Puredark, I have an nVidia 3080. what is the best version of the skyrim upscaler for my PC? I am currently running v10 and I am having some lag issues

PureDark

What lag issue? DLSS2 does't have any lag issue, it can only happen with frame generation.

RudyGunslinger

Any recommended settings for 3070ti and 1440p? It might be just me but I'm not seeing much of a difference. Should I be using DLSS 3.1.11 or an older version?

Joaquin De Paula

This isn't working at all. I've installed in mo2 and I crash everytime I start up the game. I'm using Solas Enb and I have followed instructions...

Fibi

Hi there, thanks for this! Great mod. The only mild drawback I've noticed is that while using it, I get kind of a spazzy, shakey visual effect going on with a lot of clutter objects like buckets, baskets, food, plates, etc. Sort of like when the physics are glitching out, except the objects don't move. It goes away if I physically move the object with the grab key or by walking into it. Just wanted to ask if this is a known/accepted side effect and if there's anything I can do about it?

Sun

Do we not have to turn off TAA for this build?

PureDark

It's the game's own issue, those objects produce wrong motion vectors until you move them, it's only happening with your old save, cuz it saves where those objects are and place them when you load into the save, I think a new save could reduce the chance it happens but still, it's not really worth it.

Fibi

Thanks for the reply - it doesn't seem to be an old save issue for me, since I haven't actually played the game properly since installing the upscaler. This is something I've noticed during the hundreds of occasions I've coc'ed from the main menu to random places to test things while building up my modlist. I don't know whether it might make a difference if I started an actual game without using the console. Sounds like it's not something that can be eliminated in any case so no worries, just thought I'd check in case there was a fix I missed!

trash heap

Make sure you've changed the .ini file to what type of upscaling your GPU allows for (FSR2 for AMD, etc.)

PureDark

It is recommanded but not required since the mod will turn off TAA automatically. But you do need to turn off EdgeAA and SMAA in ENB. Only some ENB presets come with SMAA in the post pass shader though.

William Thrash

I've noticed, rather strangely, that this mod + the current RTGI shader seems to... not produce much actual additional lighting/shadow? I hopped into the debug mode and there's far less shadow/light being presented in the lighting debug view of PG's RTGI shader than shown here in the examples. I'm... struggling to figure out if it's a PGRTGI issue, or this mod, or something else. That being said, the DLSS feature works fantastically, literally near-doubled my framerate.

suspicious_kitten92

WoW. Finally above 60 FPS at Brotherhood sanctuary entrance. I gained 10-15 fps more, bringing from ~53-54 to 66-67 in this area. Upscaled from 1080p to 1440p with ~700 mods everything ultra, ENB ultra, Lods Ultra, Grass lods, whatever - ultra with 4070 TI. I was getting sick seeing 45 FPS at the entrance of Dark Brotherhood Sanctuary, but DLAA was actually getting my FPS down, this one is a nice mod, making ENB work with DLSS. Thank you sir. Keep up the good work.

Rodrigo Perez

Hey bro! Nice work .-) Just signed up for downloading a DLSS for Skyrim. but. I am a real nood with computers... Which one should I download? And, where is the link to download it? Cannot find it anywhere... Thanks for taking the time ;-)
