Hello, dear fellow Pipers! ✨

Today, I want to share a bit of a personal story with you.

Not too long ago, I received an email from an IT startup that's creating a website specifically for "AI Creators." It was an interview request email asking about my thoughts as a "human" creator during this transitional period where everything seems to be getting replaced by AI. They even put the phrase "50$payment" right at the top of the email. Frankly, that offer was more off-putting than anything, so I didn't even bother to reply.

However, it does give me these questions: 

"How do I feel as a human creator, crafting my work?" 

And 

"Why do I keep creating, even through hardships and pain?"

 Lately, it seems like there's a lot of conflict in society. We hear a lot of dangerous and frightening news. But are you aware that many of these societal struggles are greatly influenced by internet algorithms? In the book "The Stolen Focus," it's pointed out that the sheer amount of information on the internet is clouding our concentration and memory. And due to humans' inclination towards negative information, we end up consuming more bad news, and consequently, algorithms perpetuate negative information more.

In such a scenario, being a content creator becomes quite a complex endeavor. Adding another piece of information to the flood of existing ones raises questions about whether it's really beneficial. Moreover, while I initially started creating animations to provide younger folks with something to think about and create positive works that could contribute to their lives, the industry's focus on trends and flashiness deviated from my dream of a media career.

But despite it all, if you ask me why I keep writing and drawing, 

I think... it's because I want to plant some flowers in this information flood. 

Someone wandering through negative information and fragments might stumble upon my work by chance... and still manage to smile that day. I want to keep planting such works in the algorithm, so that even in the midst of it, people can find stories that make them laugh while sharing things they love, stories that they willingly embrace during tough and joyful times. And if this touches someone's heart, I believe that's meaningful in itself. 

I even believe it has the power to slightly change the world.

안녕하세요 동료 파이퍼즈 여러분!

오늘은 조금 개인적인 이야기를 해보려고합니다.

얼마전 'AI 크리에이터' 전용 사이트를 제작하는 IT스타트업로 부터 이메일이 왔습니다. 곧 안있어 모든것이 AI로 대체될 이 과도기 같은 시기에 활동하는 '인간' 크리에이터로서 어떤 생각을 하고있는지 궁금하다는 인터뷰 제의 이메일이었죠. '5만원 지급'이라는 단어를 가장 위에 적어둔 그 제안은 그 무엇보다도 불쾌해서 저는 답장조차 하지 않았습니다. 

그러나 한번쯤 저에게 묻고 싶습니다. 

" 인간 크리에이터로서 나는 어떤 마음으로 창작을 하고 있을까? "

그리고

" 힘들고 아픔에도 왜, 창작을 계속 하고 있는걸까요? "

라는 질문을 말이죠.

요즘들어 사회에는 참 갈등이 많은 것 같습니다. 위험한 뉴스도, 무서운 뉴스도 많이 들리구요. 그런데 많은 사회속 싸움들이 사실 인터넷 알고리즘의 영향이 크다는 것을 알고 계신가요? 

도둑맞은 집중력이라는 책에서는, 인터넷상의 정보의 양이 우리의 집중력과 기억력을 흐리게 만들고 있다고 합니다. 그리고 부정적인 정보에 더 끌리는 인간의 특성상 안좋은 이야기을 더 보게되고, 그만큼 알고리즘은 부정적인 정보를 더 반복해서 퍼트리지요. 

이런 상황에서 컨텐츠 제작자로 활동한다는 것은 참 마음 복잡한 일입니다. 쏟아지는 정보의 홍수에 또 하나의 정보를 추가하는 일이 과연 바람직한 것일지에 대한 고민이 되기 때문이에요. 또 어린 친구들에게 생각할 거리를 주고 삶을 긍정할 수 있는 작품들을 만들고 싶어 애니메이션의 길을 걷기 시작했지만, 트렌드와 화려함에 치중된 산업 분위기는 제가 꿈꾸던 미디어 직업의 모습과는 거리가 멀었습니다.

그럼에도 불구하고 왜 계속해서 글을 쓰고 그림을 그리고 있는가를 묻는다면,

저는 아마도 꽃을 심고 싶은것 같습니다.

누군가가 부정적인 정보와 파편 속을 떠돌다가 우연히 저의 작품을 마주하고...그래도 그를 마주했기에 그날 하루 미소지을 수 있는 그런 작품을 알고리즘 속에 심는 일을 계속하고싶어요.

좋아하는걸 공유하며 웃고, 힘들때도 기쁠때도 기꺼이 포옹을 나눌 수 있는 이야기를 하고싶어요.

그리고 그 마음이 누군가에게 닿는다면 그것만으로도 의미가 있을거라고 믿어요.

그리고 미약하게나마 세상을 바꿀 힘이 되기를 믿습니다.
