🐭 Hello, fellow Pipers! ✨

How have you all been? I've been doing really well. It's been about 7 months since I started writing "The Pied Piper," and now the script is almost complete with a clear structure! The characters, the world, and the fantastic storyline are all finished now! It's finally time to take out the piggy bank we've been saving together and turn it into a song.

With a heart full of excitement, I started preparing to contact the composer. I studied what elements are needed for a music commission, how much would be a reasonable price, and how to write a good proposal. And finally, on the 16th, I sent a business email to the composing agency!

And the result was...!!!

Rejected

They said, "Thank you, It won't be passed."

The reason was that we didn't have enough money. The agency asked for $10,000 for a completed 3-minute song, but we only had about $3,000 in our piggy bank. I was shocked by the large amount of money... even the piggy bank was a huge amount for me. The seemingly impossible amount made me feel powerless. Besides, we couldn't invest all the funds into the song since we need to hire voice actors and mix the final sound.

Creating an animation is like running an obstacle race. When you solve one problem, another one pops up in the next stage. And the methods you knew before are never enough to solve the problems. So, we stumble every time. But... because I've fallen hard once before, I could get up more easily this time. And I started looking for positive solutions.

There were two solutions:

1. Earn more money.
2. Search for an amateur composer nearby who can grow together.

And I made a list of specific tasks I could do for each method.

✨Earn more money:

• Create a one-person company and look for investment opportunities.
• Look for funding programs.
• Take commissions.
• Borrow money from friends and family.

✨Search for an amateur composer nearby who can grow together:

• Ask people in my contacts for recommendations.
• Post a composer recruitment notice for Pipers' followers.
• Post a job offer in composer-aspiring communities.
• Ask other genre workers on freelance sites if they can do musicals too.

Among the list, the quickest thing I could do was to ask people in my contacts, so I immediately started doing that.

And luckily, I was able to find a composer to work with right away!🎉

The connected composer had already produced several short film soundtracks and had experience creating musical numbers. They were a senior at school, introduced to me through a friend, and even so, they gladly accepted the commission, which made me very grateful.

And then, next week! The first composition meeting for "The Pied Piper" musical will take place! Finally, the unique sound of Pipers will come to life, and I'm so excited! If we proceed with the composition, I'll definitely share the progress with you!

However, the script work got a little delayed. The first draft of the script is finished, but it still feels rough to show, so it might take a bit more time. (It's not the final script because it will be continuously revised even after being uploaded!)

Once again, this week reminded me that this project can progress because of all of you.

잘 지내셨나요?

저는 매우 기쁘게 지내고 있습니다. 방에 틀어 박혀 피리부는 사나이를 쓰기 시작한지 어언 7개월... 이제는 스크립트도 골격이 명확해져서 완성을 코앞에 두고있거든요! 캐릭터도, 세계관도, 멋진 스토리라인도 완성된 이때! 드디어 우리가 함께 한푼 두푼 준비해온 저금통을 꺼내 노래로 만들어낼때가 되었습니다.

저는 잔뜩 부푼 마음으로 작곡가분께 연락을 드릴 준비를 시작했습니다.

음악 의뢰에는 어떤 요소가 필요한지, 얼마를 드려야 합당한 가격을 드릴 수 있는지, 어떡하면 제안서를 잘 쓸 수 있는지 등을 공부하며 준비했지요. 그리고 드디어 지난 16일, 작곡 에이전시에 비지니스 이메일을 발송했습니다!

그리고 그 결과는...!!!

실패였습니다...

감사하지만 의뢰는 통과되지 못한다는 답장을 받게되었어요.

준비한 돈이 너무 부족했던 것이 이유였습니다.

에이전시에서는 3분짜리 완성된 곡을 위해서 10000달러를 요구했고, 저희의 저금통에는 약 3000달러정도의 돈 밖에 없었거든요.

저는 너무나 커다란 돈앞에서 충격을 먹고 말았습니다.... 저금통조차 저에게는 정말 큰 금액이었기때문이에요. 불가능 해보이는 액수는 금새 저를 무기력하게 만들었습니다. 차후에 성우분들을 모시거나 최종 사운드를 믹싱해내기 위해서는 모든 자금을 노래에만 투자할 수는 없었거든요.

애니메이션 제작은… 장애물 달리기 같습니다. 한가지 일을 해결하면 다음 단계에서 반드시 문제가 생깁니다. 그리고 그 이전에 알고 있던 방법만으로는 절대 해결 할 수 없어요. 그래서 매번 넘어집니다.

하지만... 이미 한번 크게 넘어져 본 덕분에, 이번에는 크게 아프지 않게 일어 설 수 있었어요.

그리고 긍정적으로 해결방법을 찾아보기 시작했습니다.

해결방법은 두가지였습니다.

그리고 각각의 방법에서 구체적으로 제가 할 수 있는 일들을 목록으로 만들어 보았습니다.

4. 주변에 돈빌리기

✨같이 성장해나갈수 있는 아마추어 작곡가분을 근처에서 모색하기

1. 연락처에 있는 사람들에게 물어보기.
2. 파이퍼즈 팔로워 분들께 작곡가 모집글을 올리기
3. 작곡가 지망생 커뮤니티에 구인글올리기
4. 프리랜서 사이트에 다른 장르 작업자에게 뮤지컬도 하는지 물어보기

목록중 가장 빨리 할 수 있는것이었던, 것인 연락처에 있는 사람들에게 물어보는것부터 바로 실행에 착수했어요.

그리고 운이 좋게도, 바로 함께할 작곡가분을 찾을 수 있었답니다!🎉

연결된 작곡가분은 이미 다수의 쇼츠필름 음원을 제작해보셨고, 뮤지컬 넘버도 창작해본 경험이 있으신 학교 선배님이셨습니다. 친구를 통해 건너건너 소개 받았음에도 불구하고 흔쾌히 의뢰를 받아주셔서 정말 너무 감사했어요.

그리고 바로 다음주! 피리부는 사나이 뮤지컬의 첫 작곡 회의가 진행됩니다!

드디어 파이퍼즈만의 사운드가 입혀질 수 있다니, 정말 마음이 떨리네요! 작곡을 하게된다면 꼭 진행상황을 공유드릴 수 있도록 하겠습니다!

다만 스크립트 작업이 살짝 미뤄지게 되었는데요, 현재 1차 스크립트는 작성이 마무리 되었지만 보여주기에는 러프한 감이 있어, 조금 더 시간이 걸릴 것 같습니다. (아마 업로드된 이후에도 꾸준히 수정이 될 예정이여서 확정된 스크립트는 아닙니다!)

다시한번 여러분들이 있었기에 이 프로젝트는 진행이 될 수 있다는 사실을 되새기게 된 한 주 였습니다.
