📝Pipers Production Diary 23/07/27 (Patreon)

Hello Fellow Pipers!

Do you know the quote, "Two heads are better than one"? It means that when people work together on a task, they can achieve better results. But if everyone is trying to go in different directions, they might bump into each other's forehead, right?

The same goes for those in the movie and animation industry who work together while looking at the form of a script. Even if we read the same book, we all imagine differently. Naturally, just looking at the script won't be enough to keep our heads in the right direction.

So, we usually use "references" and "storyboards." to make the writing clear in image and completed form. In this week's diary, I want to write about the efforts and plans to create a successful work with our team.

The first composition meeting was held this week. It was a really enjoyable time. But my lack of knowledge about music made things hard a little bit. So I couldn't pinpoint the specific differences or purposes of the song. Also, the composer had difficulties in imagining things based only on the shared script.

To prevent this, I took on the tasks of "analyzing the reference music" and "creating thumbnails (storyboards, rough sketches before animation)."

So, until August 3th, I plan to proceed with the following tasks:

1. Distinguish the feelings conveyed by the instruments in the reference music.
2. Break down the lyrics of the reference songs into phrases and study them.
3. Write English lyrics based on the references.
4. Create storyboards based on the script.

And I will upload the completed thumbnail images and detailed progress next week on "Staff of Pipers" and "Honor of Pipers"!

So, we get over one mountain and now we are looking at another one. I'm so proud of us! The reason the project has come this far is all thanks to all of you.

'백지장도 맞들면 낫다' 는 속담을 알고 계신가요?

하나의 일을 할때 여럿이서 협동하면 더 좋은 결과를 낼 수 있다는 의미입니다. 하지만, 여러 사람이 백지장을 들고 움직이는데, 각자 다른 곳으로 가고자 한다면, 종이는 찢어지고 말것입니다.

'스크립트'라는 글의 형태를 보며 함께 작업을 하는 영화, 애니메이션에 종사하는 사람들 또한 마찬가지입니다. 책 하나를 읽어도 주인공의 생김새부터 그림체까지 다 다르게 상상을 하는 우리니까요. 당연히 글만 보며 작업을 하면 백지장을 안전하게 운반하기는 어려울 것입니다.

이를 보강하기 위해 주로 사용하는 것이 바로 '레퍼런스'와 '스토리보드'입니다. 

이번주의 다이어리에서는 작곡가 분과 함께 성공적인 작품을 만들기 위한 노력과 계획들을 적어보고자 합니다.

이번주에 작곡 첫 회의가 진행되었습니다. 굉장히 즐거운 시간이었지만, 개인적으로 음악에 대해서 잘 모르고 또 말로 표현해본 적이 없어서 디테일한 차이나 목적의 명확성을 짚어 드릴수가 없었기에 아쉬웠습니다. 그리고 작곡가 분께서도 공유한 스크립트만으로는 이미지를 떠올리시는데 한계가 있어 어려웠습니다. 

이를 방지하기 위해서 제가 하기로 한 일은 '음악 레퍼런스 분석'과 '썸네일(스토리보드, 애니메틱 이전의 러프한 낙서 단계)' 작업입니다. 부족한 분야지만 소통을 위해서 추가적인 공부를 하고, 그림을 그려서 최대한 서로의 머리속에 같은 이미지를 띄워놓는 것이었습니다.

때문에 다가오는 8월 3일까지 다음과 같은 업무들을 진행할 예정입니다.

1. 레퍼런스 음악들의 악기별로 주는 느낌을 디테일하게 구분해보기

2. 레퍼런스 음악들의 가사를 마디별로 뜯어서 공부해보기

3. 레퍼런스를 토대로 영어 가사 쓰기

4. 스크립트를 토대로 썸네일 그리기
