This isn’t related to this movie, or anything. But re: celebrity interactions, I was on a holiday to LA a few years ago and met Danny Devito at the ArcLight. He was there with his wife and they were going to watch Hail Caesar. I had a small chat with him and mentioned that his movie ‘Matilda’ meant a lot to me as a kid. His reply was really sweet, he said that it’s one of his favourite films he worked on because he got to work with his wife and said that she was amazing in the movie. Didn’t mention himself at all. He also said he watched a lot of horror movies to get the right portrayal of the principal in that movie. He was a class act, real sweet guy.

I’d take 2 straight hours of Tex Cobb dancing in the sunset while “Sunshine of your love” plays on loop over just about any movie made in the last 20 years, honestly.

From Parts Unknown

If any movie/cast warranted a 3 hour episode, it's this one...or Southern Comfort

Sam Riebesehl (Reeb-Uh-Shell)

I hadn’t seen this movie before, but like 2mins in, before his name came up in the credits, I said I bet I know who did this music. James Horner really did a trial run for his score to Aliens in this movie. So much of it is just a tweaked version of what he’ll do in a couple years for that soundtrack

Tex Cobb frequented the whole foods I worked at in Philly about 20 years ago. He was frequently drunk but very cool. Bought a ton of fresh fruit and veggies daily. Once in the parking lot he demonstrated a spin kick. He was wearing tight jeans and flip flops and was half in the bag but still nailed it. My favorite customer by far.

When I was in the Air Force the rumor was North Korea had a replica of our entire SK base and they practiced raiding it over and over and that really scared me

If you haven't read Big League Chew co-founder Jim Bouton's book "Ball Four" check it out. I think about the manager saying "shitfuck" at least once a week.

My dad was stationed at the DMZ, postwar but prior to full escalation in Vietnam. He said the South Korean troops (katusas) were some of the most disciplined guys he ever saw. They would routinely get gut punched for minor uniform infractions when they were in formation. He also said it was east to spot the NK spies because they always wore clothes that were out of style. (1 out of his 5 kids found this interesting)

in the first week of BASIC they make you wear regular shoes half the time so you can get used to boots, plus it makes it easier to spot the noobs

I def am part of the scary mean dad club. He had a few nice moments sprinkled in there but picking out a Father’s Day card and that day in general has always been AWKWARD CITY. Love you guys.

This intro really matches my chronotype

I’m a penn state alum and when that news story came out, it was like “great, we’re in the news again”. Stanger was right, his excuse was that he was just “blowing off steam”. But I feel so bad for that dog, like what happens to it now. Does someone adopt it? “Uh, don’t let that dog lick your face…”

Stanger's right about The Office! My sister's in her mid 20s and she and all her friends are obsessed with it.

Rodgers, if you're reading this and ever looking for a new wallet, check out the SketchWallet. My buddy gifted me one and it's been pretty good. Comes with a pen and paper already: https://www.sketchwallet.com/

Sometimes you sit in Bank Hall listening to your instructors with tears in their eyes talk about how conops got kanked when they had actionable humit that guys were still on the ground, other times you listen to non-read-in, POG ass fobbits claim it was all fake news

Is it weird that I’m not even interested in any of these movies yet I still look forward to this podcast every week? I’m so kooky!

Daniel_

Probably seen this movie 20 times because of my dad. He wasn’t a war vet but loved these type of movies such as Flight of The Navigator.

I’m a bit of a sauna buff so I’m always checking out DP, gaffer, key grip etc. Tim Griffith had a great Actionboyz and adjacent career. Untouchables Dead Bang Body Double Uncommon Valor The Stuntman Last Waltz and my favorite of the list, Straight Time

John McClane

You know what chaps my ass ? Everybody’s dick get talk about from funny Jon to Rodgers and even Stangers dad …….. but you don’t talk about Blasters dick … what gives . This episode should go in the redo column as well .

John McClane

And don’t give me shit about grammar. I’m typing this while mopping naka fucking toe me . You never know when the bad people will come back.

I think they stole the knife thing from The Dirty Dozen. I have vivid memories of Lee Marvin talking about scrambling peoples brains.

Megan

Im altered right now listening to this ep. Can't wait to add that into my stoner vocab, thanks Stangerang.

Rogers - getting older and being ignored by youths is called being a npc - non playable character. That’s what a 24 year old told me. I’m a scientist in goldeneye.

Holy shit- the whole bit of the dog smoking a cig saying “I think I can have another salmon treat you fucking asshole” I had to pause the podcast, stop what I was doing and go sit down I was laughing so hard. What an ep

Max Power

Rarely have I heard cynical-ass Rogers so taken sincerely taken aback...

When I was teen going to my buddies house he'd always be in the basement and never wanted to come upstairs let me in and he told me for years just to come in without ringing doorbell and I never did. The one fucking time I let myself in, his dad is sitting at the kitchen table which looks onto the front door and he immediately says "You know you should really knock before letting yourself into someone else's house".

Scott Tammel

I'm happy Dar has been showing up a lot lately.

When Gene Hackman is breaking down at the end of the movie, I didn't cry, but I was moved enough that I almost didn't appreciate Stanger and Gabrus cracking jokes and shit.

Fred Skull

It’s weird but I kept thinking of Tropic Thunder while watching the actual mission play out.

The mention of Alien Nation sparked a memory of a deep childhood trauma I experience while watching the progenitor TV miniseries “V” in the 80’s. So I go to look it up today and motherfucking MARC SINGER is the star! Now I have my alien invasion.

Jack McReynolds

I did do back to back viewings of this and Let's Get Harry. Cannot wait for the Boyz to take on Let's Get Harry whenever they get to it. I did also watch Ted Kotcheff's first movie, Wake in Fright. I can't remember if it'd already been brought up during the First Blood episode, but that movie shook me to the fucking core. It's definitely worth a watch.

Jon Smith

First sleepover I can remember at my best friends house in like kindergarten, we wouldn’t go to sleep staying up with a flashlight doing a Superman connect the dots. His bizarro serial killer Bryan Cranston looking dad burst in, said nothing just grabbed my sleeping bag under my head and drug my ass down the hallway and dumped my at the top of the stairs. Thought I was going down the steps for a sec ..that dude was a weird prick, pretty sure he was a millionaire(tech guy, big house on the lake)but he had pirated cable cuz he got off on it

MS Paint Trash

Action Boyz and Pure Cinema Podcast both discussing Uncommon Valor on the same day?? Happy birthday to me!

David

The “recommend this podcast” segment at the end fucking crushed! Thanks for a great 3 hrs! Got me through the week.

Devon McRainey

What a film! Listened to the pod first but had never watched this before, I was enticed by their praise so decided to give it a watch and _goddamn_, we have our selves a movie! Hooper was my first Boyz discovery and this is my second, great recommendations fellas. *oh, and maybe I missed it but I was shocked nobody identified Tex as the prototypical Momoa.
