Chapter 2

“Mae?” Corrie asked.

“Yeah?” Replied Mavis, with her mouth full of pasta, again…

“Don’t stuff so much in your… forget it. Listen, he said we´re like… overprotective, do you think we are?” Corrie seemed concern.

“Pfft, nah. We just care, that´s all. Besides, if someone here´s overprotective, that´s you.” Mavis pointed out.

“Me? Why me?”

“Because, you´re always behind his back, making sure he drank enough water. That he´s eating well. Stuff like that.”

“That´s not being overprotective, that´s just being a good sister!”

“You sure? Last time he had a flu, you asked him if he wanted to sleep in your room…” Mavis pointed out.

“So what? I want to make sure he doesn´t get a fever…”

“That´s… kind of weird. Don´t you think?” She may be right…

“Fine… I might´ve exaggerated a bit. And, maybe, maybe I was overprotective that time… fine, I am, but I can´t help it! He´s just… my little brother.” Corrie said, a bit sad.

“Yeah, I know, he´s my brother too, but he´s right. He´s a man, and as a man, we should give him some space…” Mavis said.

“Still, I think he could´ve called if he was going to be late.” Corrie complaint.

“Probably, sure. But don´t get so mad if he doesn´t.” Mavis was a bit careless about it.

“So, what should we do now? Like, just step aside? Or…?” Corrie asked.

“Well, sure, however… he´s sad. And he´s our brother. As his big sisters, we must do something. So, this is my plan, why don´t we… set up a date for him?” Mavis suggested.

“Sounds good. But, don´t you think that could be like… one of the things he complaint about?” Corrie asked.

“Maybe, but if we don´t try, then he´ll be pissed all the time. And if he´s pissed, then I´ll be pissed, and you´ll be pissed. And the mood on the house will be ruined. Now, we´re not just going to do it, we´ll ask him, that way, if he agrees, then that´s because he wanted, not because we forced him to.”

“Oh, I see, well, if you put it that way, that´s clever. Yeah! We should do it!”

“Great! Now, can you hand me that plate over there…” Mavis asked.

“That´s Jesse´s plate. Did you finish up your plate already?” Corrie said as she looked at Mavis´s empty plate.

“So? I´m hungry.” Mavis said.

“No wonder why your butt´s getting so big. Someone´s been overeating…” Corrie teased.

“Hey! It´s big because of the gym. It´s muscle! Besides, yours is just as big! And you just sit around at the office…” Mavis complaint.

“Don´t you dare insinuate my butt´s fat. Cause it´s not!” It´s firm, sure, but no one will dare say they don´t have a fine butt.

Now, moving back into the real deal here. Corrie and Mavis had a plan, one that should grant Jesse´s happiness. Or at least wash all of his sadness away.

For some reason, he seems bitter. And maybe he´s right about his two big sisters being… a bit suffocating. However, they will change that. Which also means they will be part of the deal. Isn´t that odd? They have to take a part in order not to take a part… sounds too complicated.

Still, both of them were working on a plan, a way to help Jesse. The only thing he needs to do, is agree. The thing is, will he?

Upstairs, Jesse was laying in bed, looking up at the ceiling. Frustrated. But, where does all this frustration come from? Well… it´s a long story.

But it all ends up in the same place, anyways. The deal is… he´s just turned twenty-one and he´s… still at home. Even if he´s not living with his parents, because sadly they are gone, he´s still in the same house, living with his sisters.

It shouldn´t be too much of a deal, although… it kind of is.

Living with them should mean there wouldn´t be a problem if he´s late, or if he needs to go out to some place. But there are a few rules at that house, and one of them is: “You must tell, at least one of them, where are you going. And at what time you´ll come back.” Corrie´s voice echoes in his mind as he remembers those words.

He doesn´t feel as independent as he should. By now, shouldn´t he have a car? He has a part-time job, and he makes money, not too much, but it covers his expenses.

Now, not fully reaching independency is a part of the deal. But it´s not what made it all burst. It´s not what got him in the mood to send everything, and everyone, to hell. The actual deal is… dating.

Jesse didn´t made it the main deal, but it kind of was. You see, he was at college, and he spotted a pretty girl. Close to his height, well, just a bit taller. She seemed nice, cute even, and she gave these vibes of being single. At least that´s what he perceived.

He approached, made a move and… she literally turn him down. And what did she say? “Sorry, I like taller guys…” Taller, not more handsome, not more athletic, not even smarter. TALLER! She went straight to his weak spot! At least one of the things he can´t help.

That was the first strike for Jesse. His height. He just walked away, faking a smile. Not showing how truly hurt he was. But that lady was just anyone, not someone meaningful, yet, she was one of many.

He´s single, and he´s always been single. The reason? According to him, it´s his height. Standing as a 5´5” man doesn´t make him much of a hunk for women. Plus, he is quite a shy guy. But he didn´t blame it all on himself.

In his mind, he said: “So what?” There´s a lot of women out there. And one of them will truly like him for who he is. No matter the height. Still… his mind went to a different place.

Why is he short? That was his question. Why is he so short if both his sisters are a good deal above the six-foot-mark. And so, thinking on them brought a couple more things…

He knew that woman was no one he knew. No one who´s opinion he truly cared about. But the thing is… what will be the first impression any other woman will have? Certainly, any woman can see he´s not even close to the six-foot-mark. Which doesn´t leave him much of a choice for a first good impression.

Now, with that in mind, how did he got to the point where he blamed it all on Corrie and Mavis? Well, if he will have no luck with strangers, how about people he knows? The thing is, he doesn´t really know much women out there. And most of his female acquaintances are friends of his sisters. Which puts him under the tag of: “Corrie´s little brother.” Or, “Mavis´s little brother.” That wasn´t fair!

And thinking on that, it detonated a lot more things. His first question was, why are things that way? He can´t help his height, but if he knew more women, well, probably by now he would´ve found a female best friend, with whom he could have, or not, developed some feelings. Love. But once again, why hasn´t he achieved that?

His sisters. He blamed it all on them. Why? Because they are too involved in his life. Too close with him when they go out.

If they all go out to the mall, will any woman approach him if he´s standing next to his two Amazonian body guards?

So, it seems it was easier to blame them for the way things are than just thinking it´s his fault.

And so, all of these things were put up together. And all of his problems, were blamed on them. A little selfish, isn´t it?

But Jesse´s not that much of a bad guy, he just has a hard time thinking straight, clearly, when things don’t go his way.

Although, those thoughts he had were not wrong. He could have an apartment, a car. And he should be capable of getting home at any time. Why does he still have the need to do things the old way? As if he was asking for… permission.

It´s always easier to blame things on others than admitting you´re the one who´s wrong. Still, there are a few things that should change in Jesse´s life. But what he did was not a way to talk about his problems. Still, both his sisters understood. Well, at least they understood what they needed to.

“Jesse! Can you come down?” Corrie asked from downstairs. After discussing the whole deal and giving him some more time.

“You better hurry! We won´t get dessert until you come down!” Added Mavis, who´s main worry was a chocolate cake sitting on the fridge.

“Shh, can you be serious for a moment? This is important!” Corrie told Mavis.

“Corrie, I´m always serious when it comes to food. Besides, I don´t know why can´t we have some cake. If he wants to lock himself on his room, then so be it. He´ll come out when he´s hungry.”

Corrie just rolled her eyes away from Mavis.

Jesse was still upset, but he knew it would be better to come down. Else, they will get upstairs and knock on his door. And that will be even more annoying. So, he came down.

And once he was down, both explained him their idea. The big news!

“You want me to date your friends?” He asked. Looking way up at the statuesque women.

“No, we don´t want you to date our friends. Although, some of the people you date are friends of us…” Corrie started.

“What she´s trying to explain is,” Mavis interrupted. “We´ll help you out finding a date. And if she likes you or not, that´s up to you. But, we´re kind enough to help you out with your dating problems.” Mavis said.

“Wow wow wow, you want to set me up on a date? See! You´re doing it again! I told you, I don’t want you to control my life! I´m a grown man and as one-“ His speech was cut off by the large hand of one of the amazons. Mavis.

“Listen,” Mavis said. “Before you get all upset, just think on how things are for you. I think it would be easier for us to help you out getting a date. AND, we can guarantee that person won´t be a creep. Ok? Now, when I let go of your mouth, I´d like you to say: “Thank you, sisters, for helping me.” And cut off the crap of “no one loves me and it´s all your fault!” ok? I would like to go back to the kitchen. I have an appointment with some sweet, chocolaty, pastry.” Of course, Jesse was obstructing her way to cake.

Well, actually Corrie was. Mavis might be a 6´6” amazon that takes no crap from anyone. Who does what she wants, and doesn´t look for an approval. However, she does listen to her bigger, 6´8”, sister. Mavis will always do what Corrie says, she may complaint, but she´s got no choice.

Finally, Mavis let go of Jesse.

“Your fingers smell like sauce.” Jesse complaint.

“And your butt can smell like my foot if you don´t shut it and agree!” Mavis really wants to go back for her dessert.

“Guys, can we chill for a moment. This is almost over, anyways.” Said Corrie, and then she turned at Jesse. “So, Jesse, would you like us to help you out with your… dating issues?”

“Ugh, fine! But this doesn´t deny the fact that you too get too involved in my life decisions.” He stated, although, he agreed.

“Relax, we just want to set you up with someone for dinner, not for you to marry the first woman we introduce you to.” Complaint Mavis.

So it seems, it´s a deal! Now, Corrie and Mavis will work on finding someone for Jesse to date. And, that way, they might fix his issues. Although, it would only fix one, they are still way too nosy when it comes to his private life. However, they didn’t really ask. He´s the one who complaint about it… they are just trying to help.

Jesse doesn´t feel as if he had made the right decision. But if he didn´t say no, then they will bug him until he agrees. They can be quite annoying sometimes.

Jesse had a lot to think on now. For starters, even when he claimed they were ruining his life, they didn´t got mad. They understood, and tried to find a way to make things right. In their own way.

“So… now that, well, you know what you have to…” Jesse started, finally sitting at the dinner table, “Do I still need to tell you when I´ll be late?” Maybe they will say no. And give him the space he wanted.

“Of course not! I was so worried! You should call, or at least send a text. I won´t sit here waiting, wondering if you were hit by a car or worse!” Corrie can over react sometimes…

“Listen, if she´s not cool, then she won´t leave me alone. And I´d rather not look for another place to eat dinner so, you either text or call. Otherwise, well, you know what will happen…” Sure, Mavis will make him miserable for a week. And maybe hurt him, just a little.

“Ugh, fine! I´ll let you girls know…” He crossed his arms and laid back.

Although things will change, eventually, right now, the only change is that both ladies will help him out finding a date.

That same night, Jesse wondered, which ladies will they pick for him? What kind of women will his sisters chose for him to date? Will they be pretty? Will they be his age? Who will they be?

Even if it was sort of humiliating, it was an open window. Open to a vast number of possibilities. Dates, Jesse will be dating, finally! And, even if it´s all set up by his sisters, at least he knows that, if everything works fine, it´s because of him, and not because of their intervention.

That´s, at least, what he hopes for…

Now, both of them had a plan. And now, it was time to work on that. Although, there are a few chances Mavis will fool around and leave all of the work to Corrie.

Corrie, the big sister, she´s the most responsible one, and surely the one who´s going to set the most up. And Mavis, well… she´s not that proactive…

Mavis is the middle sister, and she´s, well, her main thing is to tease Jesse. That´s how things have always been. Although, that doesn´t mean she doesn´t care. Still, she does have different priorities…

“So, Mae, what do you think? Should we pick up the place or… let them decide?” Corrie asked.

“Pick up the place? I think that´s too much. Listen, maybe Jesse´s right, we can´t take too much of a part in this. I think that, at most, we should suggest a place. What we should do, definitely, is to find a woman who´s willing to date him.” Mavis said.

“Ok… do you have anyone willing to date him?” Corrie asked.

“I haven´t checked…” Mavis replied, so carelessly.

“Mae! Take this seriously! He´s waiting for us to find him a date, we should get that done right! And quick!” Corrie takes everything very seriously.

“Oh, come on. Just chill, sis. We have plenty of time. It´s not like he has an expiration date or anything. Listen, we should look for someone… for Friday. Look for someone he can date on Friday. That´s it, don´t try to make this too complicated.”

“I don´t mean to make things complicated. I just want to have things… organized.” Corrie replied.

“Organized? Or controlled? Listen, we´ll find someone, it´s just a date. There´s no need to make a plan, or a list. Just ask a few of your friends, I´ll ask a few of mine. It should be that simple.” Mavis was not in the mood of working too hard for this.

“Fine, but make sure to pick someone nice, I don´t want any of your friends to make Jesse feel bad.”

“Don´t worry. Everything will be fine. Just chill…” Mavis´s careless words were not so nice to hear to Corrie.

They may be sisters, but the way they handle things, it´s very different. And now, both of them are supposed to work together in order to get Jesse a date. It should be quite simple, right? Well, maybe it might be a bit harder than they thought.

However, there´s a goal. A goal that exists in each date. At least on the serious ones. Will there be something else? Will the date set the beginning for a relationship? Jesse seems tired of being single, what if his sisters can find him a couple?

At least that´s Corrie´s goal. To find a woman good enough for Jesse. And maybe that´s sort of Mavis´s goal too. Or at least find someone decent he can date. Her friends are not quite… his type. And neither are Corrie´s friends. But they will find someone for next Friday. That´s for sure!
