There are five original Planet of the Apes movies (1968 - 1973). Some of them are pretty good, some not so much. The later movies are a reboot of the franchise (2001- 2018). The effects in the are visually stunning, but the stories are weak compared to the originals. You mentioned the apes moving their mouths in an odd way. The makeup prosthetics were molded in several pieces and applied to the actors faces sort of like a puzzle. The actors had to do that thing with their mouths to keep the adhesive on the makeup prosthetics flexible, otherwise the apes mouths would eventually become immobile. According to the ape actors, trying to work in that makeup was a real pain in the ass.

That was a fun reaction. When I was a kid I did have a crush on Nova. The actor who played Cornelius is in the 70s version of the Haunting, Legend of Hell House
