Can you talk more about the Pacific Route of Lend-Lease from the US to the USSR? Its fascinating and typically unheard of by most people, and the particular geopolitics around it and Japan is fascinating

JM

I seem to be missing the podcast itself. Is it on this feed?

How do you deal with people who use or cherry pick facts to their agenda , we see this happening a lot in the internet age but I'm sure this was also done after the wars by different factions .and how do you check yourself to not fall into that trap yourself

with Germany having now (in the series) thoroughly pillaged the Soviet Union, and the tide turned against them up to the rich bread basket of Ukraine, how will the Axis countries expect to feed themselves? are they still plundering the countryside? or must the people endure ever shrinking rations?

The UK government is currently considering leaving the European Convention on Human Rights, but this organisation was in great part the idea of Winston Churchill. When did he first have this idea (to create the convention) and how did he gather support for its creation? As a related second question, what was the initial reaction from other leaders about thus idea?

I am currently (finally!) catching up on the Between Two Wars series. The episode on Mussolini's rise to power got me thinking. Given how popular and successful Mussolini apparently was in that era, how did his influence and power in the grand scheme of WW2 dwindle away so quickly? The WW2 series gives the impression that he turned more and more into a vassal rather than an equal ally of Hitler. Was it just Italy's lack of economic power and military success, especially in Africa, that limited his options and lost him the support of the Italian polulation? Had he bitten off more than he could chew? I would really like to hear Indy's and Sparty's evaluation of this relatively quick turn of fortune. If it is covered in later episodes of Between Two Wars that I have not seen yet or in the WW2 series, in which case I must have missed it, I apologise for the question and will do my homework better next time :)

Could you have Indy and Sparty talk about the Allied bombing raids on Axis nations. If you tell Sparty that I (Vinny) asked I think he will agree to talk about it and understand. I have talked to him in many threads now about our disagreements on the effectiveness of the Allied bombing raids and the points I think he has not brought up in past videos about them.

A question for the podcast regarding censorship and narrative shaping in the press. Do you think that the British and American government's handling of the press was too heavy-handed, or that it struck a reasonable balance between the needs of the war and the freedom of the press, or some other position(s)?

The next great war of attrition in the west is the attack on the Luftwaffe and ultimate destruction before DDay. Indy alludes to that this week. But like the Battle of the Atlantic it must be won at any cost. Question: Is daylight bombing targeting industrial targets effective on its own or as bait to bring out the german fighters to shoot it out with allied fighters

Why was no one prosecuted for the corporate malfeasance that gave our boys torpedoes that had an average failure rate of approx 90%? If what I have read is correct we didn’t have functional torpedoes until late in 1943!! The navies of the Japanese, the Germans and other navies had torpedoes that worked quite well (but not us). How many dead sailors and airmen were the result of this. And why was nobody ever held accountable? - Lee

15,000 young men died in aircrew training in the U.S. and another 25,844 died in accidents. I could not find similar statistics for the US Army or Navy much less other nations' armed forces. Have you seen any data related to deaths due to training or accidents in the various belligerent powers during the war. My father was flyer during the was and personally saw some 20+ people die in flight accidents. In one case he was slated to begin training in B-26s, but his training was aborted when the flight instructor died in an accident.
