The sound came through perfectly, thank you! I have to dry my tears and go to work now. Much love and appreciation for sharing these stories with us.

Thank you for the nail-biting blow-by-blow of the last days of the Battle of Sutjeska. Koča Popović was the partisan commander who led the breakout towards Foča-Kalinovik on June 9-10. He made the call on his own initiative & faced flak for it later, accused that he was running away. The move likely saved the General Staff with Tito & Deakin, but incurred great losses & condemned the Central Hospital & 3rd Shock to be left behind & slaughtered. 12 years earlier Popović was studying philosophy at the Sorbonne & publishing surrealist pamphlets. He then proceeded to volunteer in Spain. After the war he served as Yugoslav foreign minister. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ko%C4%8Da_Popovi%C4%87 One more fascinating character in this war.

I hope Gretha had a family of her own to whom she told her story. Thank you for uploading this again.

I am continually astonished at you and all the team's ability to do this job, week after week. I had a job where the horrors were but a tiny fraction of what you deal with day after day. I was plagued by dreams and my boss told me to suck it up. I couldn't handle it and quit. I was unable to compartmentalize. I admire your professionalism and hope with all my heart that whatever nightmares haunt you are lessened by the knowledge that you are doing good in this world.

Is it just me or has the same list of Time Ghost Army members been at the end of the WAH videos for a while now? I always try to catch them to see if I show up there and have noticed the same list for awhile.

What is so powerful is not only the emotional depth of each episode, it is also the detailed breadth of the subjects covered. I consider myself to be well read on the the history of WW2 but have never heard about the Iranian famine and the fact you will be doing a special on this is very welcome. My monthly subscription is worth every penny and more. Thanks.

Those are likely the Brigadier tier members. I'm Division 43/44, so the tier below, and the jump is quite high to their donation tier.

All the stories hurt, this one hurt a little bit more.

I'm an Iranian immigrant living in Australia. I went to school in Iran and I don't remember the Iran's famine of 1942 mentioned in any of our history books. Thanks for doing an special video on it. Can't wait for that one.

She did. She returned to the Netherlands in 45. Their apartment and most of their furniture had been taken by a Dutch man who refused to hand over any of it. She recovered Alie’s friendship album and a few small personal belongings though. She later married twice and had children that are still alive. Historian Claudia Carli is the daughter of friends of Gretha and her second husband, and spent a lot of time with Gretha recording her story. She then proceeded to research the fate of the 19 girls and one boy who wrote in Alie’s friendship album, and compiled it into the book “As Long as I Hope to Live” you can get it on Amazon and iBooks.

Grew up in the NE USA. Remember well the old folks with tattoos on the arm. All the first hand stories. Never forget. It was not that long ago.
