This week the war enters it's third deadly year. At its onset three years ago many had hopes that a peaceful resolution could be found with the Nazis, but today it is clear that was beyond naive. What once started as the Germans advancing a few dozen kilometres into Poland is now them advancing a few thousand kilometres into the Soviet Union, reaching and destroying Stalingrad. Few thought that when this conflict first broke out, ostensibly over a Polish sea corridor, that it would now be fought on the deserts of Egypt. Only one thing is clear now: many more innocent people will be murdered before this concludes.

It is also a nice time for us to reflect on how far this project has come. When we started the history was still strong, but the editing and production was nowhere near where we wanted it to be. We called on all of you to help us make a documentary which does justice to the gravity of the subject, and you have already beyond delivered. Our team of editors, graphic designers, researchers, and writers, is creating historiography that we're pretty damn proud of. All of that would be literally impossible without your help, and we were able to do it without once having to try sell you a razor kit of VPN deal in between coverage of the Second World War. This entire documentary is much better because of that, and thank you all so much for making it possible.

Below you can see an image that is slightly older than three years. On August 27th, 2018, Indy and Sparty shoot episode 1 of World War Two in Real Time.

Love you TimeGhost Army.

158 - The War is Three Years Old - WW2 - September 4, 1942

As the war turns three there is is no slacking in the fighting. Erwin Rommel launches another Axis attack in North Africa, but it is foiled in only days, though the Axis are advancing in the Caucasus as well as on Stalingrad, where the fight for the suburbs is now beginning. They're also advancing in the South Pacific, as the Japanese fight their way along the Kokoda Trail. 3 years. Millions dead. Who will win?

I also find it hard to believe three years have gone by. One of the surprises of the week by week is an appreciation for the pace of events, the length of the war, and gaining a sense of how it would have felt to live through this time.

A lot more hapless victims to fall at Stalingrad.

Yesterday I started another rewatch of the Great War, that started 7 years ago. Indy looks so young there, but already has the same charm as he has now. It has been an awesome and informative journey and I hope it will on truckin' until the very end!

An amazing three years guys. Hopefully, this won't last another 3?!? My favorite part so far still has to be the ending of episode 22. Gets me every time.

Congratulations on the three great years of the WW2 series. You guys are building yourselves a permanent monument with all your amazing videos to which the future generations will come to explore, sometimes get entertained, and... learn to never forget, hopefully. Congratulations again and here's to my many more joyful hours spent in your awesome company. Cheers from Slovenia!

I’m honestly astonished that general friiesberg is still in command after absolute turd he layed on Anzac and British forces in Crete. Should have been hung with fishing line then for either gross incompetence or treason.

Damm, 3 years already! Watched it every single week. Keep it up.

Bernard Freyberg, VC, was an excellent Divisional commander. He was promoted beyond his capacity to command Crete, and then placed back in his old command afterwards. Calling for his execution in the manner the Valkyrie conspirators were murdered in is in incredibly poor taste. I recommend this paper from the Canadian Forces College on the subject of Freyberg's command capability. (https://www.cfc.forces.gc.ca/259/290/295/286/stevens.pdf)

Nah I stand by it, when you’re told when, where, how and what time the enemy is coming and then you proceed to completely ignore the areas that you’ve just been told (by the enemy themselves basically) that are going to be attacked, and instead focus on the coast. Then spend 2-3 days completely ignoring the attack that is happening and focusing on some piddling little conflict off the coast. Then when you finally have to evacuate, proceed to evacuate a far higher proportion of officers than men. All of which leads to an entire region being forced to live under the nazi tyranny. Especially the Cretans who actively participated in the defence who most certainly perished under the nazis. The bare minimum you deserve is to be strung up. That mans gross incompetence is responsible for thousands of deaths, I don’t care what he did in ww1.
