A new short is here! This time we discuss the origins of HIV and the outrageous indifference many had to the people who were suffering from this disease.

These shorts are a difficult medium to discuss such sensitive and important issues. That being said, our mission here at Time Ghost is to keep history alive, whether it be the victims of HIV/AIDS, the victims of wars, or just stories about how life used to be. In order to keep history alive we need to be able to reach audiences that are not currently being reached with quality and well researched historiography.

While there are a lot of short videos out there for those with shorter attention spans, not all of them meet the historical standard we think is necessary. That's why we've started this show, and that's why we do what we do. Thank you all for making this possible.

"The Gay Plague" - How Prejudice Killed a Generation

In the 1980s, the Reagan administration fails in its fundamental duty to protect the American people. Prejudice and fear will lead to tens of thousands of deaths - many of which could be avoided. In this video, we examine the course of HIV/AIDS in the United States. A very timely episode.

Thank you for this video, I actually learnt quite a good deal from it!

It is to this day illegal for homosexuals to donate blood here in Germany, the law probably made sense back in the day but it is somehow odd how this law is still active today

One of the rare times I have been disappointed in your work but perhaps a short is not the right format. For perspective I was 20 when AIDS hit the national scene in the U.S. The cause and means for spreading were not well understood other than "bodily fluids". Imagine if we followed the same protocols with AIDS as we are doing with Covid19 and with the same behavior restrictions. Imagine if social media was available. This was a very complex illness with near 100% fatalities to those afflicted. Forty years ago there were limits as to how soon treatments could be developed. To simply say a modest amount was spent on AIDS research when the reality is nobody knew what to spend the money on. We were just beginning to develop heart disease protocols and still considered cancer a death sentence. You left the impression that Reagan and the religious right were the same and both were callous towards AIDS sufferers. will not comment on the religious right. I am not part of that. I will say that President Reagan did not really understand the severity of AIDS until some of his Hollywood friends became afflicted. He has written as much. Reagan, once aware, did much to fund the research.

Also showing Pat Buchanan while referencing the religious right was disingenuous. Buchanan was Reagan's communications director from 85 to 87 and had served similar roles for Nixon and Ford. Buchanan was there not because of his religious views but as a media advisor: something he proved adept at before and after his work with Reagan.

A nice remainder of the horrible disease that slipped into the background of public consciousness with the advent of the COVID-19... For me personally, it was shocking to see the sheer numpber have taken... Thank you! Never forget!

I liked what you tried to do here, but the rapid fire delivery left a lot to be desired. And I think you oversimplified maybe a bit too much? Others have commented better on that. I love what you all do and applaud it, so I just want to keep those standards up.

The Roman Catholic Church opposed condom use in Africa and the "saint" Mother Theresa, during the epidemic in Africa condemned condom use as "worse than murder", causing untold suffering and death. The Abrahamic religions are essentially impeding human progress and have been given far too much respect for far too long. Not to mention government subsidies all over the planet.

Reagan is one of my favorite presidents and I am a Neo-Con. I am even a big Buchanan fan. And I am completley against the sexual revelution. At the same time for a conservative I am pro gay rights. This was a bad faliure for Reagan.

Christopher Hitchens has some of the best criticisms of Theresa. If you haven't read his work on the subject you should check it out. It's what opened my eyes to her

The problem with this topic is: 5 min are far to short. But it is a reminder, that AIDS/HIV isn't something that's gone.

You left out a gay culture that had gotten used to getting Gonorrhea, getting a shot of Pennicillin, and going right back into their old sexual habits refusing to curtail their activity even after it was determined how it was transmitted. You also left out the many cases of people intentionally infecting others to make somebody pay for them getting it. But hey, lets blame it all on Reagan and I say this as someone who despised Reagan for his war mongering and stupid immigration and economic policies.

Judeo Christian religion is the corner stone of our civilization

Not to mention the prime controllers created HIV in the Bilderberg lab

Blame the CIA for creating a eugenics weapon with Bilderberg

No, it is not. Western Civilization is secular, not theocratic.

But our moral values are founded on the teachings of Judeo-Christian religion.

Anonymous

Our moral values are secular, the idea of universal human rights, the right to free speech, freedom of association and religion are gifts of the enlightenment. They have no origin in the Bible or Christian theocracy. The Bible advocates slavery and killing children for disobedience and adults death for adultery. If anything, Christianity's excesses i.e. religious wars and oppression were causative factors to the enlightenment.
