*This week*, Indy talks all about daring feats and raids. The Germans reach the Caucuses Mountains and scale the highest peak in Europe to hoist up the Nazi flag. Both the US and Japan carry out raids in the Pacific. On the Western front, Britain carries out its most ambitious raid yet, sending commandos, many from Canada, to attack the key German held port of Dieppe.

A little behind the scenes updated too:

Keep an eye on the credits on the coming episodes, as our new batch of interns have just joined on! Please give a lot of love in the comments to Arthur, Chris, Conor, Irina, Jamie, Kyle, Nik, and Radu!

156 - Swastika Raised on Highest Point in Europe - WW2 - August 21, 1942

The Axis advance in the Caucasus takes Mt. Elbrus, and the one on Stalingrad continues, and there are several raids of note this week- a Japanese one on Guadalcanal is destroyed, an Allied one on Dieppe is badly savaged, and an American one at Makin Atoll is successful in the short term, but with bad long term ramifications. So much going, and so much to sort out. Kudos to all the contributors.

So, 6000 troops in the Dieppe raid... ONE marine division in the Guadalcanal.... These battles just pale with regard to the Eastern Front...

Can you do a special episode on Dieppe.

Welcome new interns! It is a pleasure to have you here!

And no mention of the Kokoda Track, where the Australians are literally fighting for there country if Port Moresby falls.

You guys haven’t mentioned China in a while, was it more or less stalemated while the Japanese focused on the Pacific islands?

TimeGhostHistory

Yes and no - the military frontlines inside were in stalemate, with Chinese forces fighting (and retreating) in Burma. The Japanese main action in China this summer was the expedition into the contested areas along the North Eastern frontline in a massive retaliation campaign against civilians for having helped the airmen downed after the Doolittle raid - we have covered that in War Against Humanity 040.

Yes I’m hoping to hear it too. And the battle of Milne bay soon starting next week.

Really sounds like Stalingrad might not be as easy as the Germans think. Huh time will tell.

Welcome to all the new interns. You have a great opportunity.

Welcome to the new interns, looking forward to your contributions

Welcome, interns! Glory awaits!

Appearances can be deceptive. There was never a Japanese plan to invade Australia. Not that we didn't know that at the time, of course and Kokoda was important.

A friend of my dad, whom I was named after was at Dieppe as part of the second wave. He never made it on to the beach because the commander of his landing craft, being made aware of the situation on the beach, refused to land the men and returned to the fleet. My namesake later fought in the Canadian Army in Italy.
