Dear TimeGhost Army,

Our apologies for the delay of this week's episode, now it's finally here for you to watch!

This week,
the Axis forces breakthrough in the Soviet Union and North Africa, creating a critical situation for the Allies. The Allied forces in Africa are forced to escape to El Alamein, with a triumphant Mussolini already arriving in Africa to personally march into Egyptian cities when the battle is won. Even the British believe this could be the end, preparing defensive lines alone the Nile Delta for the likely event that Axis forces begin pouring into Egypt.

The situation is no better in the USSR. Axis tank spearheads have broken through in the south and now threaten to cut the Voronezh rail hub which connects the Soviet central and southern fronts, encircling thousands of Soviet troops in the process. By crossing the river Don, the Germans are now preparing to fight the Soviets in the vast open steppes of Southern Russia, where they are extremely confident their tanks can brush past the featureless landscape.

A little over a year after Barbarossa, Germany and its allies appear to be driving deep into the hearts of the Allied militaries. Japan has conquered all of South East Asia and many of the crown jewels of the European Empires, not least of which is the critical naval base of Singapore.

Is this the beginning of the end, or even the end of the end? Is the war about to be lost? Will a new world order arise on the corpse of the old?

The Soviets didn't have endless manpower. Much more than the Germans, but the USSR would start feeling a manpower crunch in 1943 and be regularly running low into the end of the war. This wouldn't matter to the Germans as their manpower problems were even worse, but I would really hope this series would not propagate the "endless Soviet manpower" myth.

Looking forward to hearing more about PQ17. My grandfather served on the USS Wainwright DD419. He unfortunately wouldn't share his stories about his time in the navy.

Very few veterans shared stories. My granddad only told about his memories in a few cases when he was drunk. He was in the Dutch army . Horrible stories like having to sit in a cage for 30 days and made barking sounds at every German that passed. His friend protested and was murdered as an example. The thing that kept my grandfather alive that he wanted to see my father who was born after he was put in a Stuttgart Stalag. Most of the horrors of WW2 are

It was a bad idea for the Germans to attack both Voronezh and later stalingrad (but I wont talk about this yet). For once Hitler had a good military idea. It was a terrible idea for Bock to get involved in the tactical battle of voronezh which both wasted time and men. Tik on youtube (whatever you think of him) spoke about this in depth. Likewise Stalingrad was beyond unnesecary and was never in the original plans of Fall Blau (minus calling for an artillery barrage) and the main goal should have just been the oil. Or maybe they could have Just focused on Rhezev (although they needed the oil). Ps Georg von Kuchler also gained a field marshals batton on the 30th for destroying Vlasovs army and preventing the siege of leningrad from being broken. PPS How on earth did Bernard Fryburg get another job after Crete?

Like the hype and buildup to Guadalcanal in this episode. Can't believe that half the year of 1942 has already passed!

The Soviets perhaps could have avoided the Stalingrad disaster if their leader hadn’t been so paranoid that he trashed his intelligence reports. Anyway we’re onto El Alamein 👍

I know precisely what you are talking about, my grandfather wouldn't talk about his time in the Dutch army and afterwards during the occupation either. Except for one time, when for a school assignment I asked him to write about it. He wrote me a long letter. Which I have since lost, which makes me sad still.

The Stalingrad campaign was part of Fall Blau and must have been part of the details found on that German downed plane.

But first the Japanese will push for Port Moresby overland following the Battle of the Coral sea. Some say there is a forest road that the Japanese could exploit. In their way is only a number of 2nd string Australian milita units; very poorly trained & equipped as the main Australian forces are still on their way home from North Africa to help defend Australia.

Rommel is about to run smack into South Africans, Kiwis, Aussies & Indian troops fighting with the British. Will they help provide the spine to blunt Rommel's assault? What will the RAF be doing? Has Rommel pushed beyond his supply lines and hoping his momentum could carry him to the Suez?

Luck favours the bold, but will the eggs turn out to be rotten?

It's just part of the story, this channel is oversimplifying this stuff (although Stalin made terrible calls as well)

I am also watching TIK and his Stalingrad videos...They are really good.
