We always struggle with how to make events come alive that weren't captured on film. Recreating events live is usually rather cringe, and in any case out of the question at our budget levels.  Some events, especially more technical events can of course be recreated using computer generated imagery, but that too is very, very expensive. So for some time we've been entertaining the idea of taping into a resource were a lot has already been invested into creating a 3d model of history: computer games. There aren't that many games that are good enough to make that possible, but for naval warfare there is one game that has come quite a way to at least create fairly accurate renderings of the technical action side of things: World of Warships. Therefore we are glad to announce that we will pioneer that idea for Pearl Harbor in cooperation with the guys over at wargaming.net. Like we say in the video this is yet another step in making history come alive, and while it does enable part of the Pearl Harbor project, it is still only thanks to your membership that it is possible to make this monumental project at all. So, many, many thanks to you all for being part of the TimeGhost Army

Yeeeeees! I am of course extatic at the idea of seeing Pearl Harbor come to life But I am also immensely happy, because this partnership means you guys are getting more and more "corporation" credibility. Today your partnering up with Wargaming (check out WorldOfWarships it's great by the way), in three years, who knows, you might partner up with PBS for D-Day or Russia Today for Stalingrad. One man can dream.

When can we share this video?

I am toying with the idea of getting up early that day to start in real time. There might be a few tears at 8:10AM in the timeline.

You guys could present this as a puppet show and it would still be fantastic!! I will do what I can to spread the word as far as possible!

Looking forward to the ‘coverage’. I’m retired Navy and was stationed at Pearl Harbor for a time. Never forget! Will contact local news ASAP

Not so exited about animation in the middle of one of your documentaries... They have been so good and well done. Too many "historic reconstructions" already use animation probably due to a lack of archives since as you know that takes work and money. Sorry I can not get exited about this project but I will watch it for sure.

Have you guys thought about contacting the YouTuber Montemayor?

He did a video with an animated battle map about the attack on Pearl Harbor

I may be wrong but I think this sort of thing was done in Soviet Storm ? Whatever they used it sure worked out pretty well there, so I'm good with it here. They also used re-enactors - which is out for this project but maybe another one down the road ? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=97iOxxH_64s

Great idea! How about re-creating Battle of Kursk in World of Tanks in 2023? Or at least some part of the battle like Prokhorovka? Keep up the good work!

You can rest assured that Wieke will incorporate the gameplay in such a way that it feels natural. It will also be very limited in scope as we don't want to inflict inaccuracy just to achieve an effect.

TimeGhostHistory

We have seen that, but for reasons of creating an even more complete map, we are creating our own animated map.

They used actual CGI, while we use what is called Machinima - that is to say gameplay recreating the events. This has been done for short documentary videos, and for longer fictional videos in the past, but as far as we understand this is the first time it will be used extensively for a feature length factual documentary.

It sounds great guys!!, I was thinking if it wouldn’t be great to have a mini-serie on the Spanish flu more in detail
