Finally, here we go: WW2 Episode 112!

As we reach the third week of October 1941, the Moscow panic begins for real.
A warning to evacuate is issued by Molotov, and chaos ensues. But at the same time defenses keep being built around the city.
WIll the Muscovites flee or fight?

On the Nazi side, credibility issues in the press and propaganda departments are growing. Soldiers and civilians alike are starting to raise skeptical eyebrows, and distrust towards the official news is growing.
Didn’t they say the war was unequivocally decided?

Also, the Russian October weather is growing increasingly grim. With the increasing cold and darkness practically everything gets more and more challenging.
What will happen in Vyazema? Will the German forces keep advancing?

And last but not least, what exactly is going down in Japan..?

Excellent as always. Tiny thing hardly worth mentioning, but showing kuibyshev a 4:22 threw me off a bit since it was the viashima pocket was being discussed.

The plot thickens.

Thank you for the incredible summary of the complex developments within the Japanese government. I'm sure there wasn't time to fit the explanation into this episode, but the appointment by Hirohito of Hideki Tojo as Prime Minister despite the recommended candidate (Prince Naruhiko Higashikuni) piqued my interest as to "why" the emperor rejected the recommendation. The various sources I found agreed with the following explanation given in the Wikipedia entry for Hideki Tojo: "Prince Naruhiko Higashikuni was said to be the only person who could control the Army and the Navy and was recommended by Konoe and Tojo as Konoe's replacement. Hirohito rejected this option, arguing that a member of the imperial family should not have to eventually carry the responsibility for a war against the West as a defeat would ruin the prestige of the House of Yamato." The Wikipedia entry cites the book " Hirohito and the making of modern Japan" by Herbert Bix for this explanation.

It seems like Hirohito was SO intimately involved in all the decisions. Seems incredible we let him stay in power.
