[Another Viewpoint]  Will this become a Border Town?

[Dino En Zola Berlinetta (His Majesty)]

Thanks to Van, we were able to rest in an environment so comfortable that it was hard to believe we were marching through the mountains. The huge base that was built for us was tranquil and relaxing, as was the temporary base that we had been using until then. Above all, it has private rooms. Normally, there would only be Tents, so this is a luxury.

There seemed to be narrow holes on both sides, so I was able to feel the fresh air. Furthermore, the private rooms were equipped with chairs and tables to sit on as part of the room. That boy was ingenious every step of the way.

I walked out of the room with great satisfaction and called out to the Royal Guard guard who was guarding the room at the entrance.

"I think it's time to leave the base, where is Baron Van resting?"

"Ha! It seems that the baron is resting outside!

"What?"

The words of the Royal Guard made me listen to what happened. Perhaps sensing that I was in a bad mood, the Royal Guard straightened straightened his posture. I was not angry, but I was surprised to think that Van was not resting in the same base.

"Don't tell me he's resting outside because he's worried about his rank?"

I muttered and put my hand on my chin in contemplation. It was true that a baron was the lowest rank except for the knights, but since he was the one who built the base, I also thought that he shouldn't have to worry about this.

With a sigh, I walked down the stairs with my companions and out of the base. Since I had gone to bed quite early, the sun had only just risen outside.

"Yo, your Majesty!"

When I stepped outside, the knights who had been camping out for the night were startled to see me and stood upright. While raising one hand in response, I noticed that the surrounding scenery was strange.

"...I guess he didn't set up a temporary base, did he?"

Muttering something like that, I was taken aback by the surrounding scenery.

To my surprise, there were countless two-story bases lined up around me. Most of the soldiers were camped outside, but there were enough bases to accommodate perhaps 1,000 or 2,000 people. I noticed that it looked like an Inn Town, and asked a nearby knight about it.

"Was this completed this morning?"

I asked, but the knight still shook his head left and right. No way he would build a base for everyone in the wee hours of the morning, before the sun had even risen.

If that's the case, then he still had this much magic power left in him.

"This is, Baron Van who said he would prepare a few more before dinner, so he built it... Well, the knights who are resting are divided into three groups and are taking turns resting, after the decision was made through discussion."

"I see. I don't blame you for resting."

I ignore the knight's explanations, and look around once more. If there were several of these bases along the mountain road, it would be possible not only to march, but also to store supplies. The period during which expeditions are possible would be greatly extended. There is no doubt that the safety of logistics, which requires constant attention, would be dramatically improved.

I wonder how many will realize the value of this.

"No wonder why Viscount Panamera formed a quick alliance with him. She was quite clever."

As I mutter, I think about many things in my head: the scope and duration of Van's magic. And the amount of magic power. How much can he do, and how continuously can he use his magic? Yesterday, he spent nearly half a day building a road through the mountains, and even built this many bases. If this is the case, we may really be able to build a castle overnight right in front of the enemy territory. The is also a result of Van's investigation of the possibilities of magic. If we are going to make the best use of magic, we need to look at magic from different perspectives.

If this were a country of dwarves, Van's magic would have been directed only to blacksmithing. That would be too great of a loss. It simply destroyed countless possibilities.

"...I wonder if I could send a few military researchers to the Seat Village. Even if it is only ten people, if they can all put their heads together, they will surely come up with something that will be beneficial to the kingdom. It's a shame that the baron is so reclusive. New roads, flood control, fortifications, weapons development... there is plenty of work to be done..."

As I was mumbling and lost in thought without thinking about the location, I suddenly heard multiple footsteps behind me. The footsteps were light. That's when I immediately closed my mouth and looked back behind me.

"Early morning, Baron Van."

I announced as I turned around, and Van, with a woman and child, looked surprised and with wide eyes.

"Oh, good morning, Your Majesty. I was going to call out to you first, but you recognized my presence."

"Huh, don't underestimate me, I've made the battlefield my main workplace. Still, I think I've finally managed to surprise the baron."

I look down at Van with a smirk. Van then nodded with a chuckle.

"I see, that's something to be expected, I guess... Oh, I'm sorry it took me so long to report this, but I'm sorry for increasing the base without your permission. In case you're wondering, we've kept the street size the same, and we're building it with priority on sturdiness and ease of use, so I think it's a base that will be useful for a long time to come."

He nodded deeply, after saying so.

"You have created such a stronghold on a mountain road in the Wolfsburg Mountains, which had been considered unsuitable for military progress. Who can complain? But now I have a fairly accurate picture of Baron Van's power. Should I ask you to build roads, strongholds, and forts at key points?"

I told Van as I looked him in the eye and wondered how he would respond. Will Van walk with my kingdom from now on? Or is he already thinking of a different path? I thought about it a lot before I said these words.

But Van, with a troubled smile on his face, patted the back of his head with one hand and nodded shallowly.

"Of course. I will prepare several resting places and fortresses from here to the borders of the Jiernetta Kingdom. But I won't join the war, okay? I'll get out of here as soon as I can, all right? Please make sure of that."

Normally, this would be an unreasonable request, but he agreed to it lightly, and even made a light-hearted remark. Although he is not even ten years old yet, he is still a genius, and anyone who knows him well will say that he is a wonder. It could be said that he does not understand what the position of the King was. Then, was he testing me in contrast?

Interesting.

Once again, I was very interested in Van, the genius child.
