Mine Loot
It was beginning to get dark when I walked out of the mine.
It took longer than I expected because I was fighting with Ultra Canon.
We would decide what to do about dinner after we got an inn for now. The report on the request would depend on the supper and could be done tomorrow.
We returned to the entrance of the town from near the mine and entered an inn on the west street, which we were told by the guild.
It is a small, two-story, wooden inn.
When I entered the inn, I saw a counter in front of me, and a Dwarf woman was tending the store.
"Welcome, are there three of you? We have a room with a bath available."
"Yes, how much for one night?"
"Six small silver coins for the three of us. If you want breakfast, I can make sandwiches for three for one small silver coin."
I thought the name "sandwich" was named after the Earl of Sandwich.
Is there some sort of translation function at work after all?
Aside from that, for this price with a bath, staying here would be fine.
"Please include breakfast. Also, where can I get dinner?"
"We don't do it here, so you'll have to use the restaurant down the street."
I'll eat and come back.
"Yes, I'll eat and come back. Can I ask you to just do the bookkeeping for me?"
I guess the innkeepers wanted me to at least do the bookkeeping, since there was a possibility that I might not come back.
I don't think the rooms will be occupied, but it would be troublesome to look for another innkeeper, so I decided to pay in advance.
And I was looking for a place to eat dinner and came back near the guild.
There were only a few restaurants that also served as bars, probably because it was a mining town and there were many male workers.
"There's no place like Gardia that looks easy to get into."
"All the restaurants are very rude, aren't they?"
"Sis, I'm hungry, can we go anywhere?"
"Then let's go here."
Clare's stomach was screaming, so we decided to go to the restaurant in front of us.
There was no sign on the menu, but we could tell that the place was apparently busy.
As soon as I entered the restaurant, a cloud of white smoke filled my vision. I could smell the good smell of burning meat.
"It's yakiniku!"
It appears that the restaurant I chose at random was a barbecue restaurant.
It was a restaurant where you order meat and grill it yourself, not so different from Japanese yakiniku restaurants.
However, the variety of meats was limited.
Rather, the menu is divided into only beef, pork, and chicken. It is better to ask for more fatty meat when you order.
There is also rice on the menu.
I believe that I eat rice even at yakiniku restaurants, so I decided to order it.
Rilfana said that she did not eat rice.
"It's delicious with the sauce."
"Clare, you put this meat on the rice!"
"Wow!"
"I'd like to eat it, too, if I could see you eating it..."
This restaurant also had a sweet barbecue sauce.
It also had sesame seeds in it, so I wonder if this was also related to the reincarnated player. Either way, good job to whoever created it.
After all, Rilfana also asked for a small serving of rice.
◇
Since we were now back near the guild, we decided to report the request and purchase the materials before returning to the inn.
I left the purchasing to Clare and Rilfana, and decided to go to the general store on the second floor to pay for the pickaxe.
"Oh, you're back. You're back, you're back late."
"I went a little deeper into the store. So, about the pickaxe..."
It was the dwarf shopkeeper who had lent me the pickaxe earlier. I showed him the broken handle of the pickaxe.
"As you can see, it's broken, so I'll pay for it."
"What? Let me see it!"
He snatched the pickaxe from my hand and began to examine it. I picked up a large piece and put it on the counter.
"What the heck is this.... I thought it might have cracked from hitting something hard, but it didn't. It looks like it cracked from the inside. No, it self-destructed...?"
Can you tell by looking at it?
"No, I don't know. Appraisal."
I wonder how much the magic of "appraisal" can tell us. Should I have pretended to have forgotten about it?
"Collapse by magic? I'm getting more and more confused. What's up with this?"
"I dug up a strange wall, and when I tried to dig it out, it cracked..."
I'm not lying!
"Well, where is it?"
"Around here, I think. Obviously, it's only a stone wall in that area, so you'll know it when you see it."
I marked the map that the dwarf shopkeeper gave me.
"You dug in a strange place again."
"I was able to break the wall, but I've already collected the stuff that was inside."
"That's no problem, that's a natural share for an adventurer. Tomorrow, I'll have one of our regular adventurers check to see if there is room. If this is true, we may have to search the tunnels again."
It's a dream come true to think that there might be other hidden rooms.
The price for the pickaxe, but I was told that I rather have to pay for the information about the hidden rooms, and I didn't have to pay. I will have to wait until after the confirmation, so if I come back tomorrow afternoon, they will pay me.
"Mina-sama!"
I turned around to see Rilfana and Clare coming up to the general store. They could have waited for me downstairs, but I wondered what was going on.
"They said it'll take until tomorrow to assess the material, sis."
"It seems the Ultra Canon material is unknown."
Rilfana muttered so that only we could hear.
Since many of the materials could be used for blacksmithing, cooking, and pharmaceuticals, we made sure to save some of the materials we had picked up.
Still, the Ultra Canon iron scraps were huge and numerous, and it seemed to take a while to assess whether we had never seen anything like it before.
I didn't mind, especially since it didn't look any different, but maybe it wasn't the same scrap iron as the Petit Canon.
"I heard that we get paid for information on the hidden rooms over here too, so let's go sightseeing in Mineina tomorrow, shall we?"
"Okay, I understand."
"Yes!"
After we were done with our business at the guild, we decided to return to the inn.
I left for Mineina early in the morning today and went straight to the mine, so I will take it easy tomorrow.
◇
The guest room at the inn was a simple room with only four beds and a large table. Since it seemed to be a room for four people from the number of beds, I think it was allocated because it was available until late in the day.
There is a bathroom and toilet, enough for just staying the night.
Before going to bed, I decided to read the documents I found in the hidden room.
They were old, but tightly bound and tied with string, and did not look as if they had been left unattended for a long time. I wondered if there was some kind of preservation function since it was God's property.
"With the way the tools that were placed together, the second half of the book looks like a way to process ore."
"Can you read, sister?"
"Hmm? I can read, but...what?"
I realized that Clare had told me that it wasn't Japanese, nor was it any language I had learned in this world of Virtuari.
"Well, this is an ancient language, it seems to have the characteristics of the Virtuari civilization. Oh? I can read it too."
"Yes!"
"Oh, maybe it's because Calfabro-sama gave me this ability."
"Oh, you said that I can use tools now, and this book looks like an instruction manual, so I guess that means it's part of the tools."
The tools were for blacksmithing, such as an anvil, hammer, hacksaw, and chisel, and I could guess that they were probably used in much the same way in Japan.
There seems to be one special magic item that can be used in place of a furnace.
I guess you could call it a portable furnace.
Normally, it is a palm-sized cube, but when filled with magic power, it can be deployed and used as a furnace.
It is not necessary to maintain a fire, and if it is made of stone, it can be used indoors, so it seems usable in the basement of Reda-san's house if the furniture is moved out.
"I'll give it a try when I get back to Gardia."
"You'd better tell Reda-san, the landlord, first."
"Hey, Rilfana-chan, what is the Virtuari civilization?"
"We don't know except that it is a civilization that flourished a long time ago. There are many scholars who are trying to understand it, and you can find books about it in libraries."
The Virtuari civilization, the oldest civilization mentioned in this world of Virtuari.
There are no records of what kind of civilization it was, how long it existed, and why it died, but it is said that many of the ruins remaining in the world are from this period.
The fact that there are so few records of this period supports the theory that it may have been destroyed in a short time by a natural disaster or some other cause.
SeveChro is also known to have perished 10,000 years ago, but the reason for its demise remains unknown. There were glimpses of a high level of technology that could be described as a magical civilization, but that was all.
"Okay, I'll do the blacksmithing when I get back. Let's take our time tomorrow to visit the town and return to Gardia the day after tomorrow."
"What's in Mineina?"
"Tomorrow, let's go to the front desk and ask a few questions about the town."
I went straight to the mine, so I only know what I walked around. Sorry.
--The next day.
I ate the breakfast I had ordered in my room and decided to go sightseeing in town.
