The only thing I didn't like about this anime (and it is relatively minor) is that the VAs feel somewhat off... Like the VA for the MC sounds like a child... Is it just me getting caught on this? Oh well I can get past it, then story is really good and engaging. Also, fun fact, the name of the anime wotakoi is a play on (w)otaku (using the obsolete syllabary for wo which has a silent w and is pronounced o) and koi, which means love. So otaku-koi! It is explained in the manga. From my understanding wotakoi doesn't mean anything in itself, but I could wrong.

It would be criminal if you didn't watch the 3 OVA's so here's hoping you do.

The one thing that I've always thought is absurd about anime is that the vast majority of the time the characters are all powerful and save the world in their teens, and then that's it, life is over, you suck after that. There is no training somebody from a baby to a teenager as a killer, and then thinking they are superior to somebody in their 20's/30's doing the same thing, especially men who don't even hit a strength peak until into those ages. You truly have to suspend you belief for anime like Violet Evergarden thinking she can take on grown male soldiers as a child. But hey, I've been doing it for a long time now. Sometimes I just wish they would move on from focusing on teenagers at least from time to time. I know that's part of the culture as well, it just seems like a ludicrous thought process. I also grew up loving Marvel and DC, and the ages of those characters makes more sense. Nobody in their right mind is going to leave the fate of the world to teenagers, or let them make world saving decisions, because no matter what story you make up for them, they don't have the wisdom to or experience to do it.

You are right when you say its part of the culture. Once you are in the work force over there, you are expected to be the good worker bee and work yourself nearly to death for the company. If you leave a job before you work there 10 years, you are a 'job' hopper. My one friend left his job after 25 years and his boss told him, "If I had known you were going to only work here 25 years, I would have hired someone else". He told me that he and most his friends look back on their college days and back further into being kids as an almost magical time where they actually had freedom lol. That probably explains why most anime is set in that age range. Violet Evergarden is perhaps not the best example of suspending disbelief though. I can think of a lot more anime that requires greater disbelief (teenage magician with the ability to obliterate a whole nation with a single spell, for example). While we may not like to think about it, but I know their have been and are child soldiers in this world who have stood toe to toe with adults in war (sadly). All in all, that line of thought gets a bit depressing so I will leave it at that.
