Comiket is the twice-annual "Comic Market", which is where doujinshi artist circles get together to sell their doujinshi comics, and also for cosplayers and other otaku to meet. It's huge, with hundreds of thousands of attendees, there's a Summer Comiket and a Winter Comiket, held at the Tokyo Big Sight convention center. Narumi being a doujinshi artist and Hana being a crossplayer they would naturally cross paths. They apparently also attend fan get-togethers for various shows and games as well.

This anime has a lot of manga/anime, games and otaku culture references. For example the game Hirotaka is playing is a real game (monster hunter) and the sign advertising a movie in the train that Narumi sees everyday and fangirling about (can't blame her, is best girl Kato Megumi) is a real Light Novel series with anime adaptation.
