If you want one of the best later-era Eddie movies (I mean, it’s from 1999 but that’s also around the time his career started tanking), highly recommend Bowfinger. He absolutely should have gotten a best supporting actor nomination but the academy apparently hates comedies.

Jason Pratt

I loved the Chandler Bing opening. I dig Shrek 2 more than the original, definitely worth checking out.

The muffin man is an old English nursery rhyme, the joke was that they were essentially saying the lyrics during their conversation. Never heard of the murderer thing though.

So Shrek being based on the wrestler is a thing that is occasionally reposted on Reddit but has never been proven and is mostly based on ''he's ugly and kinda looks like him''.

overdev

the first one is okay but the second one is soooo much better

overdev

to be honest it's pretty standard for voice actors to recording whole movies and shows on their own, they switched to that in the early 2000s as far as I know. production is much more flexible like that

What happened to the The Mist reaction from the last poll?

Gary Fixler

I think I found a blooper. In the final dance number, the fairy godmother turns an onion and the three blind mice into a stagecoach, driven by 2 blind horses and blind stagecoach driver. A few cuts later, the 3 blind mice are dancing on the keys of a piano.

IDK if you knew this but Chris Farley voiced Shrek originally until he passed away suddenly and they had Mike Meyer's voice him. He almost completed the film before he died You can find brief clips of the OG Chris Farley Shrek and let me tell you, it's so surreal, now associating Shrek so much with Mike

Jordan Kenyon

The 2nd Shrek in my opinion (and many others as well) is almost if not better than the 1st! The 3rd one I feel like is the weakest of the four, but it still has its moments. The 4th one isn't as bad as some say it is. Now the Puss in Boots movies, the 1st is alright, but second one, The Last Wish, is honest to god PHENOMENAL!!

Michael Grooms

Eddie Murphy's career died in 2002 when he made three of the worst movies of his career back to back to back. They were Showtime, Adventures of Pluto Nash, and ISpy. That's when Hollywood knew he wasn't a marketable star anymore.

Don't worry Donkey, you don't need therapy. Just talk it out with your boy Shrek or someone that cares about you. You don't need to waste your money on some quack who pretends to care about what you have to say. Surround yourself with people that love and care about you, you'll find that's all the therapy you'll ever need.

I watched I-SPY last year and it was a lot better than I remembered it to be.

#3 is skippable, #4 is optional (not the best, not the worst)

TokyoLopez

what’s with all the haters, geez if you’re expecting a cinematic masterpiece go watch a film, this is a funny silly animated movie, acting as if the plots of the shrek movies are supposed to line up with the godfather, the shrek movies are supposed to be a fun waste of time

The character Pee Wee Herman also has a star on the Walk of Fame, instead of Paul Reubens.

George commenting on his terrible singing led me to one inevitable, inescapable idea: DRUNKEN KAREOKE - Cinebinge Edition! Coming soon, to a YouTube channel near you. 😁

Neither of you has been to Disneyland/Disney World?! Come down to Florida I'll take you both to Disney World.

I would say the downslide of Eddie Murphy films started at the nutty professor 2. Which is the one jack black was parodying. The films of his that are good y’all could watch are: Harlem nights, boomerang, vampire in Brooklyn, nutty professor (only the first, second is awful), life (one of my favorites), dreamgirls, and dolemite is my name. Bowfinger isn’t one I personally think is that funny but it’s one of his higher rated films post nutty professor.

A couple things. You commented on how the actor’s voice sessions were mostly solo, not interacting with each other. That’s pretty much the standard for the industry, and shows the magic of editing, voice direction and filmmaking. Some smaller studios manage group sessions partly to save money on studio time, partly the time crunch they’re always in, and partly because regular voice over actors are easier to schedule. About the only time big studios do it is for PR and marketing, so they can have a flashy “behind the scenes” special with a bunch of sexy movie stars mugging for the cameras (that are never there under normal circumstances) and the studio execs can get screen time with them as proof that they are filmmaking geniuses. The other thing…this will sound stupid, but while Shrek 3&4 aren’t great (they certainly have moments, but aren’t great), #2 is good and defying all logic, a couple of the Shrek holiday TV specials are fun (IMO). They would be Shrek the Halls and Scared Shrekless. If you want to watch the Puss and Boots movies, fine, but those are crossovers and not actually Shrek movies. They’re good though. Just not Shrek movies.
