Re-watching the Wire after a long time with you guys has been really great and reminds me how good this show really was and still is, also if you love Idris Elba as we all do! if you haven't already, you need to watch Luther (BBC crime mini series) at least the first couple of seasons and its really easy to binge.

I don't think it was mentioned in the comments but episode 7 was directed by Dominic West aka Jimmy McNulty

Yep! I wasn't sure if they'd notice it during the opening credits, but Simone noted it in between episodes.

Re: The end.. Square (the online payments company) has a serialization library called "Wire" https://github.com/square/wire “A man got to have a code!” - Omar Little

I read somewhere that the actor who played Kenard actually thought he shot Omar and his reaction is genuine. They apparently didn't tell him too much prior to the scene and he was crying and had to be consoled, thinking the death was real.

George disparages newspapers while Simone defends them. This show brings out people's natural responses to stimuli based on experience.

Indeed, this is not a normal show, with nothing but manufactured emotions alongside story arc. "Live by the sword, die by the sword"... for someone who had years, years of robbing drug dealers, which is one of the most dangerous occupation there is, that someone could very much die like that. That's the other side of the coin of his reputation.

Stringer's death was more grand because he was crime lord at the height of his power. He was protected by a body guard and an entire criminal organization. The only way to take him out was a major betrayal and a planned assassination. Omar was just one injured dude out on the streets talking shit about Marlo. I think both deaths were realistic given the each man's status.

Omar was a snitch who robbed drug dealers. He's lucky to have lasted as long as he did. Also, the "horse" is a common metaphor for heroin.

guy with the horse bubbles worked for at the start of the series, its just shows the next generation taking the casts spots with nothing changing.
