I absolutely agree about the wish fulfilment interpretation. Also, I don't really remember the second one and only some things about the third one but they get progressively sillier. Definitely one of these cases where the producers never intended a sequel and the surprising success forced the writers to come up with something.

I'm not convinced that the party goers knew what was going on. I think they had that party as a front for the secret auction downstairs. Also, they could make an awesome game out of this movie. lol
