When Simone pointed out the possibility of them figuring it out via the nails I did the Leo DiCaprio meme pointing at the tv 😂 Have fun watching with you guys as always—I’ve made the comment before but between the nail thing and the ‘time between seasons/shooting schedule’ conversation at the end are perfect examples of the clash of Simone being right but not having the confidence in her assertions and George being dead wrong and way overconfident in his logic. It happens so often that if I brought it up every time everyone would hate me lol. Either way Simone be confident! You’re a logical thinking, smart person with solid intuition and powers of observation. George you’re a good guy but build your friend up more 💪🏽

For those who think The System is the villain of the show...you are Wrong. Wrong. Wrong. The villain of the show is not something as nebulous or all-powerful as The System. Rather the villain of the show is the people who exist within those systems perpetuating and maintaining their place within it for their own gain (oftentimes a salary). These systems continue only because of the actors in it who know that it is easier for them to the wrong thing the right way then it is to do the right thing the wrong way. Prez is the best example of this as he fails in two different systems of power. In the police force he exhibits extreme incompetence at several times and in the school system his students score low on standardized tests at the end of the school year. The manner in which he exists and utilizes his strengths and weaknesses in each of these systems is meant to highlight outliers within those specific systems. I'll also mention Bunny Colvin as someone who grew tired of perpetuating his role in the systems he exists in.

I had two worst teachers, but a few real amazing ones later in school. I went to a French school for expats in Burkina Faso. My grades 1 and 2-3 teachers were brutal. Grade 1 teacher used to use a switch to correct any behaviors she didn't like, and the 2-3 teacher i had told me daily that i was a waste of his energy. He would insult my Mom 'cause she didn't know French, and regularly told me i was more stupid than most of his wife's kindergarten kids. Thankfully we moved back to Canada after this. I had some really good ones in high school (Manitoba). I had a physics teacher that researched and brought in papers on the physics of an Ollie. He always looked out for me even though i was a horrible student. I also had a social studies teacher in HS that was way overqualified for teaching at a small town HS. He would go off topic for two days with slides and everything to answer our questions. The most important one to me though was an instructor i had in my last year of trade school. He noticed a disparity between what i could understand and how i performed and got me tested and diagnosed for learning disabilities, hired me as a tutor for the class and even made sure i had a good job to go to. The Presb story arc is a wonderful experience this show gave me.

Favorite character for me: hands down, Cool Lester Smooth. It's not even close.

Well he wasn't my worst teacher or my best, but my high school math teacher for two years is currently on death row for murdering his wife, he also allegedly ate some of her body. The whole story is pretty crazy, you can Google "John Watson murder" for the details, but basically he'd somehow managed to amass a million dollars on a teacher's salary, he suspected his wife (a woman from Guatemala that he married when he was 34 and she was 17 btw) was going to leave him and take half of his money. So he took her to Vegas for her 50th birthday and murdered, dismembered, and for some reason ate some of her, then buried her remains in the desert. There was also supposedly an incident back in the 70s where he was investigated by the Secret Service for threatening Richard Nixon, and another incident (I read this somewhere but can't remember exactly where) in which he admitted to a Texas law enforcement officer that he'd murdered a hitch hiker while driving cross country, but they had no other evidence, apparently dismissed him as a lunie, and let him go. Funny thing is he used to like me as a student, and I remember he used to get made fun of a lot because he looked kind of funny and always wore thrift store clothes at least a decade old, and it was really messed up in retrospect because he always used to talk about and brag about his wife and kids.

Favorite character is still Lester, he's a badass. Don't really have a least favorite character, I mean I want Marlow to "get got", to quote Simone, but I can't think of a character I'd subtract from the show, maybe the one cop that has that high and tight haircut, just because, who the hell chooses that haircut if they're not currently in the military? I hated that haircut when I was in the Army and still do lol plus that guy is kind of a meat headed dildo.

for me, this show isn't about the police, or drug dealers, or even the system.................in the end its a show about bubbles............and for a show that is 1 of the best ever, it got 0 award love............for me the actor playing bubbles was robbed over and over................when i 1st watched i assumed he was a junkie playing it out, not an actor

christopher b swanson

Simone "I am so excited for season 5....." and so they will move on to another show and wait weeks............................weird

Brian Harris

Favorite character is Bubbles, followed very closely by Lester. Clarke Peters is one of the best actors working today. It’ll be interesting to see what you guys think of Season 5. You may have noticed in the comments it’s pretty controversial.

Christoph Plank

I feel your reading of the show is actually a prime example of your point. Doing it the easy way by blaming individuals, thinking in terms of heroes and villains, refusing to look beyond ones own little word and putting things in larger societal context

Christoph Plank

Yes, the whole show is solely about Bubbles. Everything that happens is simply in his imagination...in reality, he is nothing but a mute kid with a snowglobe.

christopher b swanson

ok............ that might be about the funniest deep pull comment joke of all time, it seriously made me bust out laughing so hard I woke my dog up......... well-done sir, well done..............I wonder how many would get that reference

You guys really like The Wire, aye? Guess I should be glad there are only 5 seasons. I hope there's some kind of poll for what comes after because it's been a hot minute since these exclusives have landed with me.

so if we are sharing memorable teacher stories... I had an English teacher who did not like kids who were good at maths and coasted through her class. At fifteen, I was very much that kid. She once tore up my homework due to slapdash spelling and grammar and threw it at me. I put it back together like a jigsaw as she was going through the answers with the class. She glared at me until we finished the first page, and when I started to turn it over piece by piece, lost it completely and sent me to the head. But it is the post-script I remember. She came up to me ten years later when I was waiting for a train and started to reminisce about the fun times we had when I was in her class and how she always had a soft spot for me. I was genuinely astonished.

Thats what I thought too at first. Was getting annoyed that its only the wire all day especially since its really annoying to stream since its HBO. But then I gave it a shot and its been great so far. So if you havent I can only recommend trying it. But I if its just not your thing I can see how it could become annoying after some time

Jay

Yep, they're both loving the greatest TV drama ever made, giddy with excitement at the start of every episode, it's great! And I'd say that for every person like yourself in this community that isn't happy about that, there's someone like me who signed up exclusively for this show. With all reaction channels, you win some, you lose some.

8bitAndy

@Jay The greatest TV drama ever made is The Sopranos. And I hope you aren't serious about having signed up exclusively for The Wire because it's very quickly coming to a close. Hopefully you've signed up instead to support the channel.

Jay

You think The Sopranos is the best show ever, but you can't get into The Wire? I love The Sopranos but it's got 2 fairly dud seasons IMHO (4 & 6 part 1). For me, The Wire's basically perfect from start to finish. "Hopefully you've signed up instead to support the channel." I'm not sure what you're getting at there, but I doubt G & S care about my reasons for signing up as much as you seem to. I've been here since October, if all their YT subs supported them a fraction as much as I have, they'd be millionaires. And if you're all about "supporting the channel", why complain about them watching a show they both love?

Moon Logic

Thing about Michael is that he has been an adult for a long time, having to deal with his mum and take care of his brother. He never romanticized the game. Namond is like a spoiled child to Michael. When Michael joins the game, it is out of necessity and he goes in knowing that a deal with Marlo is a deal with the devil. It pisses Michael off that Namond thinks it's all fun and games.

Say what you will about Namond's mother, ultimately she accepted being the wife of a "soldier" and expected her son to follow suit because that life worked well FOR HER, but she provided Namond with a basic level of comfort, security and love that most of the other children were lacking. That Colvin was in the right place at the right time to intervene in Namond's life was a by product of the school system working as intended, small classes and personal attention. That it was a fluke caused by a program nobody believed in causes that to go unrecognized. The importance of education is often whittled down to employment prospects but at it's base it's meant to provide an understanding of the world beyond any student's own lifr experience. This is why the right wing attack on public education is so pernicious. It's purpose is to perpetuate an uneducated/undereducated working and criminal class.

There is only one thing I remember about s5 and it involves a FBI character profile. Also, I was convinced Bodie made it to the end of the show; but I liked they way they shot his final scene. The directions in which he was shooting copied the only directions a pawn can move on a chess board, emphasizing he was a solider and no more. Shame as he was one of my favorite side characters.

8bitAndy

"if all their YT subs supported them a fraction as much as I have, they'd be millionaires." they're very lucky to have you.

I don't read it as acceptance. She relented under the very clear physical threat from her husband: do what you're told, or else.

Jay

Whatever, Andy. I think you confused yourself with whatever strange point you were trying to make about my patronage. Peace.

Anonymous

You think she was forcing Namond to sell drugs under threat from Wee-Bay?

Anonymous

Ohhh, I misunderstood you. I was talking about the last scene between the twos, when WeeBay is threatening her to force her to let Namond go.

Charlotte Drolet

I signed up for The Wire. That is my support. I had never heard of this channel until YouTube suggestions for The Wire. Sadly when the Wire ends so will my Patronage. A ton of the movies that they upload, I have to rent to sync. I am not a millionaire so, I can't afford to hand out money for a channel that I am not watching. But I will check in and rejoin as soon as they watch something I want to see.

Simone is right, George is wrong. Anyway...

Omar gives his stolen packages to Butchie. You guys are working way too hard to try to predict things and never getting anything right; this isn't some cheesy network tv show.
