George, remember how in Robocop you thought it was funny that the bad guy's name was Clarence? Same thing here, except his name's Mervin.

I dont know why but i never llike this film. Also didn’t love Spaceballs. But most other Mel Brooks stuff is great

If you wish to see the "jockeys" in modern camel racing: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6ll4-OiLn4E Also, a longer report on camel racing, followed by an actual race: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5LjTLcy33no https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h6Bm7EFG_5E Back to the movie, I always felt that as a spoof, it labored under the handicap of the original being quite humorous itself.

Sing on Simone....some of us remember that song 🎵 🎶

20:59 How 'bout dat? (I hate myself.) By the way, the Sheriff is played by the accomplished Roger Rees, whom you might remember as the drily hilarious British ambassador Lord Marbury on the West Wing.

Jeff K

To me, Roger Rees will always, first and foremost, be Robin Colcord from Cheers. He was so good in that show. EDIT: Also, I am just now starting the reaction and lo and behold, George mentions Cheers a mere 25 seconds in!? What are the odds?

I love Spaceballs but I think it also hit me at a better time than this movie did, but yeah, I remember being super disappointed by this movie. I've always been a little surprised at what a cult following it's gained over the years, but I'm never going to be mad at people loving Mel Brooks. Few people in Hollywood history deserve blanket appreciation as much as Mel.

Please give "Dracula: Dead and Loving It!" a try in the future. My favorite Mel Brooks film.

Still haven't watched his first movie 'The Producers' from 1968, still my favourite.

Actually, you'd get more of the jokes if you knew more Yiddish... This movie was a response to the wildly popular Robin Hood: Prince of Thieves, starring Kevin Costner, who didn't even try to put on an English accent. In reality, you would have gotten more of the jokes if you were Jewish. It's a shame, but I'm afraid that I'm not allowed to tell you those. You'll have to see a moyle and get snipped first... :-) There were several references to History of the World Part I, like when the Rabbi says "***************************" and the other time when he said "*********************", so yes, you missed those. Other Mel Brooks movies? Yes, The Producers. There's the not very good Dracula: Dead and Loving it, starring Leslie Nielson (Airplane!), Silent Movie, which is funny in places. Also, Brook's parody of Hitchcock, High Anxiety.

Maarten Martens

My favourite Mel Brooks film, glad you loved it too!

James Stephenson

This movie was made from dirty money

There are a ton of references to Robin Hood Prince of Thieves in this one, it’s basically a direct spoof. Highly recommend that one, unintentionally hilarious in it’s own right and featuring the late, great Alan Rickman as the sheriff of Nottingham.
