Collateral is such a great film, and a great reaction video. Having those moments between the action to let their relationship grow works so well. Love when Vincent returns Max’s wallet, and you’re right there with Mark Ruffalo as he’s working everything out. Oh wait. Simone mentioned issues with thinking ahead and discussing films in real time which I have been thinking about myself, I’m not sure if it all makes sense but I’ll write it anyway. My brain works at the speed of the film, I rarely think ‘so that must mean this is going to happen’. Which is great for me as I’m always surprised by what comes next, or I almost never see the twist coming. I’m sure there will be research showing this is linked to low IQ or bad problem solving skills, but let’s not worry about that now. As George mentioned, for various reasons you wouldn’t normally discuss a film when you’re watching it - for me: there will be no talking during film or TV, or it might just be that everyone else in the cinema are not too happy with my wittering - so you don’t fully flesh out your ideas in real life as you do here. You mentioned you have to discuss it, watching a film in silence would not make for a good reaction video.* Having two people is essential in a reaction video so you can bounce off each other. However, because you are cine-literate you pick up on all the clues the director leaves, or possibly by luck, or sheer quantity of ideas, you have self-spoilered a film, where once or twice, great reveals have been discussed earlier. But there is nothing you can do about that. Where does this leave everything. I’m sure everyone here agrees the reactions are amazing (I’ve watched the Tenet video more often than is good for me), so keep doing what you’re doing. I’m sure you were waiting for that validation from me. Also, I’m with George, coyote has three syllables. The other way may be correct but just sounds weird to me. *maybe watching the artist in silence would be an avant garde, reaction masterpiece.

You guys should watch Heat, another great Michael Mann film

The building interiors and daylight exteriors were shot on film. All the nighttime exteriors and cab interior was shot on digital. At the time of release it was the first major studio production to have been shot mostly on digital.

You absolutely must watch "Heat" now, Incredible film.

mojo shivers

Tom Cruise as the bad guy is some of the best Tom Cruise. This is one of the better Cruise films because he plays against type all the while maintaining what made him a star in the first place. The fact he almost talks his way into winning the audience over to his point of view is so good.

Michael Mann is unique in that he started out as a writer and became one of the great visual story tellers and stylists. This is the only film where he stepped in to direct after it had been developed by the studio for others. In his oeuvre it's hard not to view Collateral as a "one for the studio" and also a test run for Miami Vice which came out in 2006 and was shot almost entirely on digital.

Tom Cruise movie suggestion: War of the Worlds (2005) directed by Steven Spielberg.

And half the male cast has versions of Sonny Crockett hair. Everyone from Val Kilmer to John Voight. But yes, a great choice.

I think since Jaws made you jump that you should watch The Meg

I may be wrong, but I think they added the film grain effect because they were worried people would not like the "too clean" look of digital film I seem to remember as much

I love Michael Mann's work. You've absolutely got to do Heat now. One of the best crime films ever. De Niro and Pacino together in a total masterpiece. It'll really satisfy George's thing for competent characters too😂

The music that George recognised was "Ready Steady Go" by Paul Oakenfold, also used in the car chase in the Bourne Identity.

Jean-Dominic Lapointe

I always confuse that movie with Collateral Damage with Arnold

Quigonjim25

You must watch 'Heat', don't put it on a poll, just go right ahead and watch it. Top tier film.

Jeff K

Folks, folks, let's settle down. We all know I'm the boss of them, and you, and everyone else. I thought this was common knowledge.

James MacDonald

That was pretty funny. George: "Where do I know this song from?" Me: "Bourne Identity". Seconds later, George says: "That was very Bourne-y!"

Seconding, thirding, fourthing (whatever we're up to by now) that you should watch Heat also directed by Michael Mann. It has the same slick visual style that Mann tends to shoot with, but it's also got a great story, great actors (the first time Pacino & De Niro acted opposite each other in a movie), and superb sound design and music (Moby's cover of Joy Division is just *chef's kiss*). Another great Michael Mann movie is The Last of the Mohicans (1992), adapted from the James Fenimore Cooper novel of the same name, starring Daniel Day-Lewis. It takes place in 1757 during the French & Indian War (aka The Seven Years War) between the British and combined forces of the French and their First Nations allies. You both liked Master and Commander, so I think you'd like this too.

I'm gonna second the notion of just going ahead and watching Heat. And please, I'm the boss. And as boss, you can't tell them or me what to do

Tinfoilnation

Watch the following 10 Michael Mann films in the following order: * Heat * Heat * Heat * Heat * Heat * Heat * Heat * Heat * Heat * Last of the Mohicans * Heat That's actually 11, but I tossed in an extra film as a bonus.

Julie

Last of the Mohicans is a great movie.

Jay Davis

And, while you're watching Heat which you clearly must do now, you should probably just go ahead and watch Thief too. Same one word. Same one syllable. Kinda rhymes. Just makes sense.

Robert Haynes

This is just the comment I saw as I was scrolling past, so I don't know the context. But... Last of the Mohicans IS a great movie.

On the subject of Michael Mann, please watch Thief.

Naijeru

I see a lot of talk about Heat and Thief, but how are you all leaving out Manhunter? Have they seen it already?

Travis H

2004 was an amazing year for Jamie Foxx, both this and Ray were released and he was nominated for both Best Actor for Ray (which he won), and Best Supporting Actor for Collateral at the Academy Awards! I’ve always though he should have won Supporting Actor for this instead and Don Cheadle should have won Best Actor for Hotel Rwanda but I’m not going into that here.

FaceMustache

I will agree with many here and strongly recommend you watch Heat. It is so good. It’s funny how you said “That was very Jason Bourny” during the club scene, because to answer your question about the song; it’s also used during the car chase scene in The Bourne Identity.

James Falato

You 2 are TAN-FAS-TIC!!! Love Your Chemistry!!! I'm Suggesting - not for the 1st time - the 1933 Classic "KING KONG"... The Original That Has Spawned Countless Other Kong Flicks...

Connor Alexander

Another vote for Heat as a follow up. Michael Mann's best and one of the best cops and robbers movies, ever.

Mattias Berg

You know the song 22:50 from WarcraftMovies :)

Some Guy Some Where

I love that you took the time to line up your mic's support arm perfectly with the gun in the poster. Or at least that's my head canon.

You should watch another excellent movie with Jamie Fox and Gerard Butler! "Law Abiding Citizen" https://www.imdb.com/title/tt1197624/
