I would really love some Chinese recommendations from you guys. Chinese cinema is not something I've seen a lot but would love your reactions to it, even if you've seen them before. You could maybe treat it more like commentary or something like that. Also send some love to your dad. Would love to see more of him in the future

This reaction was amazing, great film paired with stories from your dad's expiriences. Amazing work!

Shane Kolaga

Oh man, I would LOVE to watch this while working (generally my job allows me to but I'm training today!) but I don't want to miss out on anything from your dad or between the two of you! Gonna have to wait til after work! Haha

The insights your dad gives on war and the message of maintaining peace is really important. My family members who experienced war all voice the same thing. Fantastic reaction, perhaps you could do more with your dad looking at Chinese cinema?

Anonymous

I loved this. It was valuable to hear a perspective of war from a veteran rather than a pundit or historian. I'd definitely watch more war film reactions with your Dad.

USS The Sullivans is named for 5 brothers killed USS Juneau was sunk, according to Wiki that's the most loss to one family in World War Two. I've heard a bit about the Vietnam/China conflict of the late 70's but hearing your father talk about makes more than a history book section. I'd watch his reaction to Fury.

Nate Gavin

Quiet and thoughtful insights, thank you George's Dad!

Boyan Konov

I dont know if you will see this George but i wonder if you will be open to doing the masterpiece "An Elephant Sitting Still" by Hu Bo one of the best Chinese movies of the last 20 years. It is pretty long 4 hours and its bleak and haunting but it is unlike anything out there. I wonder what your parents will think of it and how it portrays modern day China.

Powerful movie but George's dads stories really got me. Thank you for sharing this with us.

This was a great experience, George. Please pass on our thanks to your dad and let him know how insightful & humbling it was to hear of his time in the army.

Danika Silva

I'd like to see him react to Zootopia 💯

Everyone is bringing up Chinese cinema for possible future reactions with Dad (for good reason, that would be awesome). However, I do remember George saying that his Dad was very fond of a dubbed version of ...... Die Hard :). Has he seen any of the sequels?

Danika Silva

While 90% of people seem to enjoy the emotional downside of reaction channels, I personally prefer laughing with you guys, more funny moments like Jumanji 👍

Stan the Man

This was wonderful. More of this please. What a great reaction. Thanks for the experience. I hope you pass on to you dad how much we appreciate his presence here on the channel. Seems like a great guy. -Fellow Canadian

I think there might’ve been something lost in translation when Melish said he was aroused by Umpam(during the French song) because suddenly your dad started talking about the bond and how close you feel. Which is very true but did the translation of arousal mean the same thing? I thought that was a very poignant moment in the reaction.

George, please pass on to your Dad that I really enjoyed listening to insights and thoughts about this movie and the personal experiences it brought back to him.

Moni Castaneda

I loved this! Loved Mr. George Sr.! This was awesome. Did you watch in English with subtitles or in Cantonese?

George's dad!! Seeing his reaction and reminiscing his own wartime experiences i felt that having him watch this movie might have been a bad idea for poking at and possibly reopening old emotional wounds. But thankfully while clearly affected he seemed okay. If he liked Saving Private Ryan as much as he appeared to he also might enjoy watching the TV series Band of Brothers. Same director/producer and based on a real war memoir of a WWII paratrooper chronicling the story of his company and it's members from training in England through the D-day drop, fighting in France and Germany all the way to VE day and demobilization of the survivors.

It was a real treat to listen to your father's insights and experiences. Please pass on my thanks to him and thank you for putting this together. I hope we get to see more of him in future posts.

Thanks to your dad for sharing his stories with us that was really touching. I would love to see you watch Ip Man together, if he hasn't seen it yet.

Hans Czajkowski Jørgensen

Thank you George and George's dad for letting us share this moment between you. It was also very interesting to hear your dad's thoughts and reflections on the movie and his time in the military.

Dude, you gotta get your dad back for more reactions. He's ace!

George: The real event you were thinking of is the five Sullivan brothers who were all killed in action aboard the USS Juneau at the naval battle of Guadalcanal.

If you want a good tank movie, I recommend "The Beast" about a tank in Afghanistan which has a tank very similar to what your dad drove. (It's a T55, but modified with an L7 105mm cannon for the Israeli Defence Force.)

Nick Parker

George, please tell your father we really appreciate him coming on to react and share with us. As an American(but not a veteran), I don't think I have ever heard a perspective like his. I found it fascinating to hear about his experiences and how similar they were to those in the movie. I especially agree with his desire for peace. If he is interested in doing more I think you should pick what he sees next. You know him best and Saving Private Ryan was an excellent pick.

Mithroch

As others have mentioned, the Sullivan brothers were all killed when their ship was sunk in the Battle of Guadalcanal. This mentioned in the movie as well as it became the reason the US no longer allowed family members to serve in the same unit. However, nearer to the story of Saving Private Ryan are the Niland brothers. Three of the brothers were killed (well... two were, the third MIA presumed dead eventually turned up in a POW camp). The fourth brother was sent home. There wasn't a big search for him, though. He was just sent home. Also... your dad is awesome. I want to buy him a beer... or preferred beverage.

Kris

Thanks a lot for sharing this, George. As a US veteran, it's extremely rare for me to have an opportunity to hear perspectives from veterans from different countries, especially one who's experiences and background are so different from mine (the few foreign veterans I've interacted with were from fellow NATO nations, and fought in Iraq/Afghanistan). It's an immensely powerful experience to see and hear the things that are similar between such wildly different experiences, and one of the true things of value that the internet and films such as this have brought us. Give your father my respect, from a fellow veteran, and thank you again for sharing this.

+1 for a new series of George introducing his dad to films his always wanted him to watch, using subtitles and translating for him as necessary.

Skinny_Obelix

This was great, I love reactions from non Western perspectives, there's a reaction channel My Egyptian Dad Reacts, and it's fascination how some things are the same but others hit in a different way.

It is crazy that both the bluray and 4k bluray don't have ANY Chinese language in either audio or subtitles. I mean...I hear I lot of people speak Mandarin and Cantonese so....., whuh? Such a great film, and a great reaction. Love the insight from your father.

Anonymous

Everything Everywhere All At Once may be an interesting one for him to check out as well.

Anonymous

I loved this. Great addition to the channel!

George - - this was beautiful, remarkable and moving beyond belief! Your Dad is astute, articulate and misses nothing! This is without a doubt the finest movie reaction video I will ever watch! Please convey my respect and admiration to your Dad. I could also see that this was a very moving experience for you too! Here's to world peace.

Hamesque

Did 100 people ask you to watch Fury with your Dad, cause you should watch Fury with your Dad.

Daniel Dawson

This was a really great reaction to watch. Appreciate the effort that has gone into translating the Chinese conversation. Really appreciate George's Dad being able and willing to share his own wartime experience, which I imagine would be difficult. Definitely keen to see another reaction to Fury.

Anonymous

The US bombing Japan and landing in China was led by General James Doolittle. The movie about is "Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo". I recommend you watch it with your dad.

Anonymous

This was great to see this reaction with your dad! Thanks for that.

Kris

I'm so sick of people saying this. It's an incredibly accurate film and everything that happens is entirely plausible. Hell, that final stand is right up there with what Audie Murphy did. The only people who call Fury "inaccurate" are history nerds who spend more time reading obscure Wehrmacht manuals than they do outside. There's nothing in Fury than any worse than there is in Savings Private Ryan.

Jim Frykman

Holy crap George, look at the view count already! I think we need an encore from Dad some time!

David Brophy

Your dad was very interesting to listen to when it came to his time in the military.

brian burke

a great video, it inspired me to do a video like this with my dad who is a veteran. but what happened to the saving private ryan video with simone, i cant find it anywhere. was it removed?
