Games are my “me time” as well George, my only party game is Diablo.

Jay Davis

Die innocence? Or die innocents? I want to know if we need to be concerned or not!

Jay

One of the scariest women in movie/TV history finally speaks..... and I bet I still can't understand a word she says:)

Jeff K

Not me over here giddily anticipating what’s coming in the next few episodes and getting excited to see y’all’s reaction.

Ginger

Don't mind if I do - especially now that the Game of Thrones mod is finally out. <3

I didn't realise until i rewatched the show that She wasn't a he. Shes a proper scary villain with an equally wild real life story.

Simone compliments the lighting on McNulty, when I knew a few minutes later was that gorgeous two-shot of him and Bunny, with Jimmy's head literally haloed by the sun behind it.

John Richards

A little cast trivia - the actor that played the community activist name Roman was much better known for playing saxophone next to Bruce Springsteen. That was the late, great, Clarence Clemmons. http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-SaW7dMGnOMg/TgO68BpiGRI/AAAAAAAAAVo/Ff_SlnKDNMo/s1600/cover.jpg

One of the things I love about this show is the detail and time they put into world building... there was a "background" character introduced in episode 3.8 with just 2 lines of dialogue that has an entire character arc over the remaining seasons, even though they are only on screen for a minute next season. That character's story does not pay off until season 5.

PIG

It took me years to even notice it. What a great show.

Stephen King : “It wasn’t Marlo who kept me riveted, or kept me plugging HBO’s semi-defective preview discs into my DVD player with increasing dread and fascination; that honour belonged to Marlo’s hired hit team of Chris (Gbenga Akinnagbe) and Snoop (Felicia Pearson),” King continued. “The latter is perhaps the most terrifying female villain to ever appear in a television series. When you think of Chris and Snoop, think of John Allen Muhammad and Lee Boyd Malvo, only smart.”

PIG

The only thing I disagree with King’s statement is that he said television. Like Jay said, Snoop should go up there as the scariest in all film, up there with Annie Wilkes in Misery (another incredible performance).

Jeff K

It just now dawned on me why Simone thought that one scene was the best McNulty’s ever looked: he was wearing a Canadian tuxedo. Of course that’s going to make him even hotter to a Canadian.

Jay

Always preferred a scruffed up Jimmy myself:)

Tony

The entire plot with Bunk and the gun was extremely important to the overall story. The Mayor was in an uproar to get it back so that it would look good for the press, which lead to Bunk having to be pulled off of real police work in order to retrieve a stupid weapon. Meanwhile, Little Finger was constantly hounding the Mayor to protect his State's witnesses, actual people's lives, yet he could care less. Returning a service weapon in front of cameras was more vital than the lives of actual human beings.

Tell new patrons that this is how every other reaction channel works and they need to pull their heads out of their butts.

If Avon hadn't just gotten shot, he would've probably ended Stringer right then and there. Also, I didn't say this last week and I don't know how many people picked up on it but the reason Omar's boyfriend and Kimmy(the girl in Omar's gang) were getting into it was because Omar's boyfriend accidentally shot Tasha(the girl in Omar's crew that got killed during the shootout). If you notice she got shot in the front of the head while she was running away to the getaway car while Omar's boyfriend was shooting in that direction.

Jay

You're right Simone. The girl with the braids at Lake Trout was also dressed like a kid on the back of the moped. That's Snoop, she's quite the bad ass and you're definitely not the first to mistake her for a boy:)

Travis

My favorite day of the week

Mitchell Bowker

George, it's interesting that you mention the Rat Utopia experiment. The writers could have been making reference or had taken inspiration from that, considering the free zoned has been named "Hampster"dam!

Jeff K

Felicia "Snoop" Pearson... played by Felicia "Snoop" Pearson. She's basically playing herself, although a much more murderous version. But... Snoop was deeeeeeeep in the game, no mistake about that. She's a really interesting person in the scheme of the show, both on camera and off. Anthony Bourdain did an episode of No Reservations where he went to Baltimore, and he ate with Snoop and the real Jay Landsman (Bourdain was an enormous Wire fan, and actually worked as a writer for David Simon's next series, Treme).

rkhc

Does that mean Simone streams? I didn't see it mentioned in their socials.

It makes me cringe every time I hear someone say Bunny legalize drugs. The correct term is decriminalized.

Haye Zeus

With the whole gun subplot, it’s really all to show the higher ups only caring about the optics. Making sure the number of murders doesn’t go above a certain number. It’s not about solving the problem. It’s to show that hey the city and the police have it all under control, the got the gun back from one of the officers that got shot in the line of duty. It’s all about making a big show and not really doing anything at all to help the city.

Which is the central theme of the show: how institutions fail, because they create bad incentives. It's about poorly designed numbers, number of arrests, test score, etc. instead of being about policing or teaching.

Stan the Man

Do you guys do a reaction with actual footage of the show not blurred?

Armchair Wizard

They can't. This is how full reactions are done to avoid copyright issues. You are supposed to have your own copy of the film/show to run in syncronicity with the reactors.

Chris Truex

That takes a ton of time and work to edit, and often multiple failed upload attempts because of copyright claims. So they have to pick and choose what they release on YouTube, and balance their work with viewership. I agree that the Wire would probably be popular enough to warrant a YT release. OTOH, I literally subscribed to the Patreon so that I could see their reaction to this show, so, it worked in their favor lol

redddfer44

Fuck guys, I've been watching each episode of this show twice now, once by myself and once with you, and I haven't done rewatches like this since the 90s with Babylon 5! I'm looking forward to your enthusiasm as much as I'm looking forward to what happens in the story. Random observations: - 3:29 sounds ominous, but it's actually German for "the innocence, the". No one who speaks German can be bad, right? - Ep 7 and the 10 minutes thing: I agree, McNutty looked his very best in that scene! - Have you thought of writing an FAQ for Patrons? Goodness knows there are some frequently asked questions. - I love the lost gun sub plot. Everyone else is seeing the real problems and some of them are even trying to do something about it. But the brass waste resources on a symbol and pat each other on the back in a meaningless press conference. That scene of "resolution" sent chills down my spine.

I’ve seen this show many times and Stringer’s confession about ordering the hit on De’Angelo still captivates me. One of the most intense scenes I’ve ever seen on T.V. Incredible work by Wood Harris and Idris Elba.

Pajander

It was the same license plate and I think it's just a continuity error. Although they did mention the rental cars, so maybe Marlo and Avon just happened to use the same place.
