Hi folks, so I wanted to show this movie to my dad for a while because of his military experiences and I finally got a chance to do it! Heads up though, you may notice more cuts than usual in this full length but I didn't cut anything out, my dad does not like to sit for very long due to his lower back issues so we had to pause for him to stand and stretch every once in a while, so each time I would pause both recordings and the movie, let him stretch, then sit back down and resume. That's why our sitting positions jump around periodically.

Since your dad seemed to like Saving Private Ryan he also might enjoy watching the TV series Band of Brothers. Same director/producer, and based on a real war memoirs of a WWII paratrooper chronicling the story of his company and it's members from training in England through the D-day drop, fighting in France and Germany all the way to VE day and demobilization of the survivors.

Cool to see your dad join us George.

Wow.... Thanks for sharing this with us. It was really awesome to see his reaction and hear about his experiences. I would personally love to see him (as well as you and Simone) react to Fury. But just as others have said, Hacksaw Ridge would be great too!

REDR58

War movies, you should watch The Longest Day, A Bridge Too Far, Empire of the Sun, Patton and for some levity, Kelly's Heroes.

I just came to congratulate Georges dad on his excellent hairline and head of hair 👏 Finished the reaction and it was one of the best I have seen on the channel so far,it was such a pleasure to hear some of your dads stories and learn some of what he went through, certainly a very brave man and he came off impeccably well as a person during this reaction Thank you to him for sharing this experience with us and I would love to see him return to the channel more in future I believe and I am keeping my fingers crossed, that this reaction does incredibly well on the youtube views

When the US was finally entering World War I the army recruiters would go town to town asking for all the young men to join up and go to Europe for the "great adventure" and one of the selling points was that they could all serve together in the same battalion/company/units/etc. It led to entire towns losing every one of their young men, mainly due to the nature of that conflict - line up in the trench, whistle blows, everyone goes over the top, run into machine gun fire, all of them die. They mostly changed that so it didn't happen again, splitting up all enlistees/draftees to different branches and boot camps across the country. Thanks for the great reaction and thank your dad for us. I know you've already seen Band of Brothers but I'm still curious what he'd think about it. If he's back in Montreal before June 18th (Canadian/American/UK Father's Day) you could watch a good father-son themed movie together like A Bronx Tale or Road to Perdition and have it on YouTube for Father's Day.

Thank you George for inviting your father to watch the movie with you. It really affects us (the viewers) differently when we see someone who's been through war watching something like this. I broke down to tears during this! Had to of been I don't even know how many times I've watched this - but I still cried. This movie hits hard. I'm looking forward to the Fury reaction, if and when that happens I know that I'll be watching! :) Take care George! Wish your father well, he's great. <3 ((Oh! I totally didn't notice any of the times that ya'll paused to get up and adjust or whatever. Great job!))

Thank you to George and his dad for this reaction. I really enjoyed Dad's commentary. It was sad hearing him recount the story of his dying brother-in-arms; it made that scene of Wade's death all the more heartbreaking. As realistic as the battles are in this film, it's still easy to get so caught up in the technical and artistic spectacle of it that you lose perspective and forget--or at least fail to fully appreciate--how real it all is. Wade, Caparzo, Miller, etc. may all be a fictional characters, but they represent the countless men over the millennia who have died on the battlefield as their friends looked on hopelessly by their side. War really is hell. Would love to see more reactions from your dad at some point if he's up to it. Also, thanks to George for all the hard work of editing this all together and translating everything. I think it was more than worth the effort.

I don’t know your dad’s back issues, but I broke mine when I was 16 in a snowboarding accident. It bothered me forever until I got THE CHIRP WHEEL. It’s a great way to expand your spine to keep it from compression pain from sitting for too long. Might wanna take a look at it. Cant’ wait to watch tho.

This is really cool, really enjoyed your dad's reaction a lot. The true story you were referring to btw, they actually mention the Sullivan brothers, five brothers who enlisted in the Navy at the same time and served together on the USS Juneau, which was hit and sunk. All five died.

Totally should have showed him "Fury" WW2 tank movie, I can't recall if you and simone reacted to it... if not it's a must see.

I am so glad that I have never experienced anything like a war and will probably never grasp the full extend of emotions that can happen during it, but there are some war movies out there that really hit me hard and this is one of them. Between my brother and me we have five streaming services and on only one of them can I view this movie if I rent or pay for it. Glad I have the DVD to watch along this reaction. (/edit after watching this reaction) Amongst other war movies I already saw someone recommending The Longest Day and A Bridge Too Far. (/edit after starting to watch the reaction to Saving Private Ryan with George and Simone) Never mind with my recommendations for the channel, but maybe just for George with or without his dad to watch.

whew just finished it, I need sleep lol... but that was great, thank your father for me. really enjoyed that.

Hi guys. George, I am swamped with school right now, so I have had to step back from reactions, but I wanted to share this. Everyone should check this out, it puts the staggering loss of life within the context of the war timeline. It addresses military losses (and the overall size of each army as the timeline progresses) in the European, Middle Eastern and African theaters only though. I am forever grateful that the generation of people had the bravery and determination to do what they did. https://youtu.be/1CqGeAmVu1I

Yes! More parent reactions would be amazing

Young Blood Priest

Ditto. My dad died almost 30 years ago at a time when we were at odds and I’ve always regretted that. Watching the two of you and how you get along kinda choked me up. Great reaction.

Empire of the Sun is another good Spielberg war film. I saw it as a kid, one of the first war films I saw and it really stayed with me. Would be interesting to revisit it with Cinebinge. It was Christian Bale's first movie, I believe.

Nerd Going Outside

Man, that was fantastic. George, thanks for putting in the extra effort to film/edit/manually subtitle that for us, and a big thanks to your dad for putting himself out there on camera like that and sharing his experiences. Loved that observation at the end - while cultures and languages etc may be different, war feels the same for all people - brutal. Echoing your dad's wish for peace.
