Yes E.T & Star Wars share the same galaxy, the Extraterrestrials have some representatives on the Republic delegation.

Steven Spielberg films Hook Close encounters Adventures of tintin (with Peter Jackson help) Lincoln Munich Bridges of spies

Gee George, you felt empathy for sharks and ditched on ET. LOL Anyhow, Starman, with Jeff Bridges, is a great extra-terrestrial movie from the 8o's.

REDR58

It's been mentioned before but you two should really watch Spielberg's "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" (director's cut). Also "Empire of the Sun."

Ok, radio waves are a type of electromagnetic radiation, just like microwaves, infrared, (visible) light, ultraviolet, X-rays, and gamma rays, so "radio speed" is the same as the speed of(any) light. In vacuum.

Steven Spielberg has so many great films. The Color Purple is one of my favorite movies period. As a very young kid, I tapped out around when when E.T. was dying and the men in space suits showed up. Hard noped out at that point and didnt see how the movie ended for years.

Yes, George, in one of the Senate Scenes one of the Pods is filled with the E.T. species. In the scene where he sees Yoda he says "Home, Home" - though it's tough to understand. George and Steven did these as references to each others movies.

Another Spielberg Film suggestion: AI Artificial Intelligence 2001. The original concept was by Stanley Kubrick but he handed it to Spielberg who, after Kubrick's death, made the film. Some people don't like it, but I feel like that, although not his best film, its probably underrated and definitely worth a watch.

You should put J.J. Abrams homage of E.T., Spielberg and the 80th on your watchlist now: Super 8. You'll gonna like it for sure. There is no sequel to this movie - although there was a novel about E.T. coming home and longing to go back to Earth... .

"Close Encounters of the Third Kind" and "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" are two of his better old ones as well. Especially Indy.

Your youthful reaction is not very surprising. It was not an uncommon response. As a matter of fact, Spielberg wanted to use M&Ms for the movie, but the company refused because they thought ET was too ugly and would scare kids away. The makers of Reeses Pieces stepped in and they became quite popular. Spielberg called it a face only a mother could love, but I think the idea he was going for was that a kid could get beyond prejiduce and accept ET as a friend despite his looks. In the movie all the kids react with fear initially, but eventually they grow to love ET, and I think by the end of the movie all the fans did also. So, SUCK IT, MARS CANDY CORP!!!

They actually wanted Spielberg to do a sequal to E.T. and Spielberg was like no but they were persistent for it and he went and wrote it so dark because the aliens were going to attack and they got the message from Spielberg to not challange him on it being finished so they gave up on the idea of a sequal.

There are some movie that should not have a sequel. Example look what they did with classics like Jurrasic Park and Independence day.

I think watching as a child the movie has more of an impact. I love the fact that ET was ugly af. It made him distinct and real. Scary yes. But somehow relatable. Lil Drew Barrymore thought he was real. If you’re a kid he was alive. So it works as a great spectacle for a child. Cause you also see the movie in a child’s pov. Keeping the grown ups hidden. You don’t feel pandered to but instead actually feel the wonder as a kid. As a grown up I feel I more admire the technicality and the look of the film more than really get an emotional connection like when I was a kid. It truly runs on emotion. Which is why the tonal shifts work I think. Cause emotions are at full stop, which is what a kid goes through cause the dummies don’t know how to control their emotions yet.

This movie was a legit phenomenon when released in theaters. It outperformed Star Wars for one. It was the highest grossing movie of all time for a while. ET also wasn’t even released on home video until 4 years after its theatrical release, because it kept coming back & reopening to theaters. Which is incredible when you think that the structure of this movie is essentially an art film shot mostly indoors with a modest amount of special effects. The acting, directing, music, and writing is all top tier. As a viewer, it works that ET isn’t cuddly or cute because you grow to love him. It’s ET’a one flaw as a character, but the audience can see past that because his compassion for those around him is sincere.

what's E.T. short for.... he's got no legs

This was great. If you decide to watch more kids movies from the 80's (that are also surprisingly dark), "The Neverending Story" would be a lot of fun.

I cry every time I watch this movie and I'm nearly 40. I think you have to have seen it as a kid back in the 80s for it to have the emotional impact that it did. I like that E.T isn't all cute to cater for audiences, you find that you love him through what he's like, and that adds realism for me, plus John Williams score in this always makes me well up with what's going on too.

Regarding E.T. and his lack of Disney cuteness, Spielberg said that he wanted E.T. to earn the affections of the audience. That's why he looks kinda creepy at first to some. And, yes, E.T. was hidden in the trailers. Spielberg said that one of the reasons me made E.T. (among others) was a suggestion that Francois Truffaut made during the making of Close Encounters. "You should make a movie with kids." The "nice" alien movie you want is Spielberg's, "Close Encounters of the Third Kind." There is a sequel of sorts in the form of a reunion commercial for Xfinity from 2019: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mQoQ4AFD0kg But, there will never be an in-universe sequel.
