This really is peak Bay. It's the right amount of heightened to be fun, the bayisms somehow work and he's not quite so over-over-over-over-the-top yet. Probably had some good producers reining him in too.

I love this film, It would probably rank around #4 for my favorite Michael Bay films. It would be 1) 13 Hours: The Secret Soldiers of Benghazi, 2) Armageddon 3) Transformers 4) The Rock.

The reason they don't pay the demand money is because US/UK policy is to not negotiate with terrorists. For a varity of reasons, mainly to discourage more terrorism. During 2013–14, ISIS in Syria captured around 20 Western hostages. All of those hostages’ families received financial demands, and every government except the UK and US paid. That doesn't mean there haven't been examples of negotiating with terrorist in history, but it isn't policy

Please do Face/Off. Cage. Travolta. John Woo. The 90s.

If they did George's method and just pay...then every terrorist would just constantly be taking hostages waiting for their payout... easiest way to make sure you get as many terrorists as possible is to pay terrorists

Honestly I think the bigger issue, and what they should have leaned into, was having to acknowledge the illegal military operations. They briefly touch on it with the one guy saying they never confirmed sending people into China during Vietnam, but I always kinda figured that was the bigger sticking point, not the money.

Now _that_ is a great, competently made action movie

Worst filmed car chase ever. All tight shots. No wides to give us any sense of where they are in relation to each other, etc. At least, that's how I remember the voice in my head when I saw it in theaters. Don't feel the need to rewatch it to see if that still rings true.

Apart from this movie, San Fran never saw this many cars destroyed in ten min. before.

POSTALMNDCLARITY

This was my favorite movie growing up. It definitely has its super cheesy moments but it still holds up, imo.

My childhood fave was The Terminator/Terminator II: Judgement Day but I'm totally with you on loving this one! It's a lot of fun with a great deal of action and emotion as well.

@13:00 that *thing* is indeed a clothesline. In this case to dry stuff.

If you create collateral damage (kill civilians) to kill terrorists you just breed more terrorists. Nation states rarely follow actual common sense, they follow the money. You're right paying your incentivize more terrorists at the same time these guys had a very specific motivation. Honestly the fact they demanded money might actually disqualify them as terrorists. Terrorists want to change public opinion and policy through terror. Wanting to be paid makes you a common criminal, not a terrorist who need an ideological objective.
