This is actually cited as an excellent example of law practices and has been used in law classes. BTW, the judge also played Herman Munster on the 60s series, "The Munsters" https://tvovermind.com/cousin-vinny-considered-one-accurate-law-movies-ever/

If you want to see a movie starring Joe Pesci, with zero gangster attitude watch With Honors. Also starring Brendan Fraser.

One thing I think is great about this movie - and particularly the script - is that while it's quite broad-brush and contrived in the beginning (as George points out - though being a comedy, that's expected), it paints the picture of Vinny's backstory quite subtly - it's implied that he was in and out of trouble a lot when he was younger, but having appeared in front of Judge Molloy, the judge saw something about him in court that suggested that he could actually make a go of law school and keep out of trouble that way. The rest of the script (and it takes both Tomei and Pesci to sell it as well as they do) shows that Vinny (and Lisa, for that matter) are *really good at arguing* all the way down to the fine details - and once you strip away the educational and ceremonial aspects, being good at arguing is the fundamental essence of what makes a successful lawyer.

Didn't think Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei would be a good combo, was pleasantly surprised. Hilarious film. Also totally understand what George means with Joe Pesci having a sleazy vibe haha.

If you enjoyed the movie, I suggest going over to see Legal Eagle’s analysis of the movie (https://youtu.be/a1I7QBCHqng). I learned a lot and surprisingly, this movie is pretty accurate, legally speaking.

As a lawyer, the initial meeting w/ Pesci & judge is not realistic. To practice law in a state where he did not pass the bar, Pesci would need a local lawyer to sponsor him and file papers to get admitted pro hac vice. It's all pretty standard, but it would not be handled with an informal meeting between lawyer & judge.

"I hate it when characters have every reason to say the thing, but don't, just to prolong the conflict artificially..." This is why I could not keep watching the Lost in Space series past a few episodes, it just got SOOOO bad with this. On the other hand, Umbrella Academy also does this a lot, and I find it annoying, but I still find the characters and show interesting enough to put up with it.

Oscar (1991) staring Sylvester Stallone and with Marissa Tomei... You said you wanted to see all her films.... This is a fun one....
