Dan Holmes

Same Cinematographer as Children of Men :) Same Director as Birdman ;)

Randell Paszt

you guys should watch Babel it is the same director. It wont ever win a movie poll as it is one of those hidden gem movies that flew under the radar. so just watch it on your own.

David Nesbit

My parents took me with them to see the original, “Man In The Wilderness” when I was only seven years old. That was back in 1971. It starred Richard Harris in basically the same role that Leo plays. The bear attack was just as brutal for a film from that era.

About greenery in the mouth: I don’t know exactly what it means in this movie, but North American tribes would put tobacco or herbs in the mouth of the deceased as part of the burial ritual. About raw liver: In winter, there’s a sharp deficiency of vitamin C, which can lead to scurvy and a painful death. However, vitamin C can be obtained from raw liver. It should not be subjected to heat treatment, as the vitamin will break down, and the liver will just become meat.

If you're interested, The Dollop podcast has an amazing episode of the real story of Hugh Glass. They recorded it before the movie and it's hilariously sad.

Watched it for the first time before seeing this reaction. It’s too damn long. And IMO I’d rather just watch castaway and a revenge flick double feature.

The book is very different from the movie, but if you're readers, it's definitely worth it. Hugh Glass was a fucking animal. The primary difference between the real story of Hugh Glass and this movie is that, in reality, he was just trying to get his stolen shit back. The father/son relationship was created for the film. He traveled like, a hundred miles after being gravely injured by a grizzly bear tracking the thief (Hardy's character in the movie) just to get his guns and gear back. It's a great read. Made me feel like a pussy, lol.

I hope y’all can check out “Society of the Snow” for more recent experiences of human survival amongst hostile terrain.
