Black Mirror: Season 3 - Episode 1 & 2

Comments

EMB

A comment on where the "fun" is in social media. I was actually listening to an interview today of someone who researches social media and media literacy. They were saying that the positive dopamine effect on your brain from likes, and shares and comments and such is very powerful. But the more interesting observation they made was that the positive stimulus or reinforcement isn't necessarily fixed. The fact that the reward in your brain can happen at any time keeps you checking again, and again, because the reward might happen THIS time you check. I'm glad I'm not on most social media, though I need to cut down on my reddit usage. That shit is getting exhausting. A couple other shows had episodes with this social rating type of thing. The two that come to mind are The Orville, and Community. It generally doesn't look pretty in either, because that's a fucked up way for people to live.

The actor who played Cooper in "playtest" is Wyatt Russell. He's the son of Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn. He's also the half brother of Kate Hudson who you just watched in "Glass Onion"

I really enjoy a lot of the eps of black mirror but Nosedive has always been my absolute favorite by far. There's something about the commentary on social media and relationships between people that is so interesting and unique. Best ending too.

Late to this one, because i'm like Simone. I kind of dread every new episode of BM, but Nosedive was probably my favourite (after The National Anthem) so far. It was so. Fucking. Funny. I was laughing my ass off every time George cringed, and the episode had a perfect ending. Yeah, the world of Nosedive is an utter nightmare, but i've never done the Instagram or Facebook thing so all the pastels and the fakery was hilarious to me. Great, great episode. Playtest was fun, but i've seen too many "what is reality?" stories to be surprised by anything that happened. As soon as Katie said AR, i knew that he would still be sitting in that chair when the "game" was over. 😄
