My boyfriend Dave was really reluctant to get into the Christmas spirit. It was our first holiday season together and I wanted it to be perfect. Christmas had always been my favourite time of year - the warm glow of the lights, the delicious food, the gift wrapping… I loved absolutely all of it and wanted someone to share that with. Unfortunately Dave didn’t quite see things that way and dismissed the entire holiday with a shrug of his shoulders and a casual remark of “It’s just like any other day really.”

Any other guy might have just accepted that Dave wasn’t much for the festive season but I wasn’t any other guy. Christmas was my thing and I was determined to make him enjoy it, even if I had to deliver him the moon to do so. Thankfully I didn’t quite have to go that far but I definitely turned a little to the extreme - and the questionable - in order to get my perfect man into the perfect mood for the season.

Dave of course didn’t think anything was out of the ordinary when I returned home with a Santa hat in my hands and requested that he model it for me. He rolled his eyes and grumbled but accepted the red-and-white garment from me and placed it on his head. For a moment he froze, as still as a statue, before a light began to shine in his eyes and an excited smile spread across his face. The momentary tension lifted from my shoulders as he beamed in happiness at me and suggested, “Hey, get a picture of me with the tree! This’ll look great on my Insta!”

As much as I wished it was the case, his sudden excitement about the Christmas season wasn’t merely because of my encouragement. I had taken the hat to a friend who had power over the mind like no other. She’d hypnotised me a whole bunch of times before and had previously offered to hypnotise some of my ex-boyfriends in revenge for how our relationship had ended. I’d never taken her up on one of her offers before until I realized that she could help solve Dave’s problems. She placed a small hypnosis charm on the hat that would permanently rewire his brain and cause him to feel joy at the thought of Christmas. Just like that, our problem was solved!

Of course, my friend had assured me that a love of Christmas was all she had installed in Dave’s mind but judging by the fact he was suddenly flexing his muscles and getting all handsy with me, I was beginning to suspect she’d done something more...
