Great Senka (大センカ) By TORAKUTORI

[Summary]

"The heroines of Ikki Tousen destroy the enemies that are approaching their base! An erotic horde action game! What awaits the heroine is a great victory or a hopeless war..."

Review:

This may come as a surprise, but I almost never follow games development.
I'm the kind of person that doesn't find value in hype, mostly because when I see something really cool, I want it, and I want it NOW!

But what I do follow is my favorite artists, and the legendary pixel artist Takorin is certainly one of them.

Takorin took part in 2 different H games projects.
Now, knowing their extremely high standards for their artwork, plus the WIP feeds every now and then for this game... I can only say that I was more than intrigued to see the final outcome.

The outcome does have a name that goes by "Great Senka".
Don't ask me who or what Senka is. The story doesn't speak about it either, but I assume it's the name of the kingdom.

If the translation did any justice, then you start the game out as "Kukul" - a female knight on a mission to defend her kingdom from the hordes of evil.

🕹️ I assume most of you are familiar or at least heard of "Vampire Survivors" - The player controls an automatically attacking character while fighting against continuous waves of monsters, with the goal being to survive the onslaught for as long as possible and unlock additional characters, weapons, and relics for subsequent sessions.

Thankfully, Great Senka does come with its own Twist instead of straight up copy / pasting ideas:
In addition to the classic VS gameplay, you must also defend the town and not let the enemy cross the left edge of the map.
Since you're not the only target, as you level up you'll gain access to offensive and defensive structures to have a better crowd control to stop your enemies in their tracks.

Every few waves a boss will spawn. You'll need to get rid of it ASAP, or once it crosses - it's game over no matter how much hp your town had.

There are 5 characters in total, each with their own unique playstyle and upgrades.
Further unlocks are passive buffs such as attack, movement, atk speed etc...
There are also another 2 stages you can unlock, each bigger than the other, with their own sets of enemies.

Although it's a survival game, there is in fact an end to each stage at wave 20.
Each character gets a golden medal next to the stage you cleared with it, encouraging you to play them all

Since that's the case, you might wonder - "ok, so where does the H fit in here?"

💕 The game does have a gallery, with a set of 5 types of CG for each character:
Story, Defeat animation, Defeat scene, Victory scene, and 3 stage idle animation of character's clothing status (intact / ripped).

As you already judged by the screenshots I provided - the pixel artwork is nothing short of phenomenal.
Takorin doesn't cut any corners, providing us silky smooth static and animated CG.

Scenes unlock process is quick and painless: when unlocking a new character, simply get defeated once, and all the relevant H CG will become available in the gallery.

Personally I like this approach, when devs are giving more freedom to the consumer to decide how to experience their project.
If the adult content doesn't have any deep context to the events in-game, then allowing us to get to the point is more than appreciated.

There is already enough solid gameplay that won't shy non-H studios.
I absolutely love chaotic games, when at some point you can't even verbalize what is happening on screen anymore.

Great Senka is an easy top recommendation to any horde roguelike fan out there, who doesn't mind a healthy mix of culture in their gameplay.
Being a fun and competent experience in itself is already a huge plus in a scene notoriously known for its low effort titles.

Great Senka is available on DLsite.
