Proportion Obake / プロポーションおばけ (Circle)
I hope you boys and girls are prepared for the top shelf stuff!!
Today I bring you the kind of goods that can turn limpest noodle into a DIAMOND!!
If you never heard about Proportion Obake (or "Proportion Ghost"), then it's about time you get yourself introduced with one of the most talented pixel artists in the scene!
This will be a relative short review, because there's not much to say about an artist that lets their artwork do all the talking.
They originally started with standard, yet high quality drawings of superhero anime drawings. But on October 4th 2020 they made their pixel art debut with a gorgeous animation of Mei from "My Hero Academia".
The most intriguing part is that there was never a build-up for such top-level work.
It's as if Proportion set themselves a personal high standard to not publish their sketches and early works while they were still improving, until they're confident enough of their skill to start promoting it.
Assuming they were looking to start earning some proper revenue, Proportion only started selling content by the end of 2021, featuring their first work "体がエロいモブにセックスおねがいしてみた~村娘~" (I Tried Asking A Mob With An Erotic Body To Have Sex ~Village Girl~).
Yes, all of their works are quite literal with their names.
Not surprising, given how all of their posts on Twitter are accompanied with a very short sentence.
What they lack verbally, they return tenfold visually.
So lets get things in order:
👉 You can follow Proportion Obake on their Twitter to view all of their early works, and also promotional samples of their featured projects on DLsite.
All of their sold projects consist of pixel art categorized by GIF and MP4.
There's no difference between the file types other than your own comfort of viewing.
I personally prefer the GIF versions, being more pixel accurate, plus each set of animations also includes a dedicated GIF of all act parts combined into one long session.
The MP4 versions are longer versions of the long GIFs (all sets) with added loops of each animation, but unlike the GIFs - they don't loop automatically unless you manually set them to with the video player you're using.
After their latest release last month, I decided that there's more than enough meat to write up a post. Having a total of 7 projects since they started out in November last year on DLsite.
Even though these are small projects, I must admit that's an impressive output nonetheless.
Each of Proportion's projects illustrates a different theme, with a set of 3 unique animations, broken into different phases for each act.
These titles only go for $3 each, for a total of $21 all-together.
Honestly not a bad deal, given the effort went into these. Their quality also speak for itself, as each title sold between 1.5~2k pieces, which is well above the average among most products under the same category in DLsite.
