What a goddamn mess

Last month, we asked you what you wanted for our next city. You chose "flying city." Whelp, here's a flying city. In typical BB fashion, however, we didn't just make a flying city: we made a flying steampunk goblin city with a massive tavern, a crew of sky pirates, a dueling pit, a hydroponic farm, and a hyperactive elemental engine. Things have gotten —as they say—a bit weird.

Welcome to Gruuk Jit'Jit.

Borough Guide

Our first borough guide for Gruuk Jit'Jit introduces you to the flying goblin city. A botched heist resulted in an entire chunk of the elven capital launching into the sky. The goblins (of course) quickly took charge, and everything immediately became incredibly complicated, dangerous, and fun. Factions of lawless goblins compete for control of the mobile city, and governments around the realm are panicking about the ticking time bomb. It's obvious that this city is going to plummet and destroy a town at some point, right?

Jelke has also put together an incredible new format for our PDFs. I think you're really going to love delving into our gorgeous borough guides for Gruuk Jit'Jit.

This guide features a gorgeous illustration of an airship armada by artist Mina Velicastelo.

Maps

Our first map encompasses the "upper left" corner of the city (note that cardinal directions aren't super useful when describing a city that can rotate).  Elven homes from the prior city of Niirisarnel have been commandeered by goblins, or at least... those homes that haven't already collapsed into the sea below. Heegi's Lookout shines a brilliant chromatic flame for all travelers to see. Tiny islands held aloft by balloons and propellers litter the skyscape.

Patrons at the Chief Courier Tier also gain access to the multi-floor watchtower of Heegi's Lookout, site of a sort of "King of the Hill" style sport in the city. Can your players find their way up to the summit of the lighthouse to Claim the Fire for themselves?

Gruuk Jit'Jit is going to have a bunch of variants, because we can't just give you one pleasant skybox and call it a day. Cloudy, snowy, and sunset variants are to be expected, but James went above and beyond by providing two additional variants: a "landed" version of the city, and one that has come to rest in the sea.

Music

Sorry y'all, but if BB is making a goblin town, Will has to make extremely goofy music. First up is "Claim the Fire," a raucous goblin anthem filled with clumsy whistles, bombastic accordion, and improvised percussion. This is frantic music for goblin shenanigans: say, scrambling up a lighthouse atop a flying city. For something a little less stupidly chaotic, the "Just Percussion" variant provides a more broadly useful combat / chase / escape soundscape.
