In 2010, I went to the local University where they were getting rid of a pile of 90's Macs. Mostly second generation PowerPC 7000 series. There was a lone Macintosh Plus (1990), and my contact said that his office got it as a 'donation' that he didn't really need or want, but took it anyway to be nice. It was in a blue foam compact mac carrying case with matching keyboard case. But, some 'donation'... the Mac Plus was trashed! One of the top vents was melted. And lots of child graffiti all over it. The mouse had no ball in it. The floppy would not accept disks, but later I discovered there was a piece of paper stuffed in it. The screen had no burn-in but had some sort of adhesive smeared over it. It proved to be stubborn, as I tried a series of solvents to remove it:

Acetone - NO

Isopropyl alcohol - NO

MEK - NO

Naphtha - NO

Butyl Acetate - NO

Dimethylformamide - Worked! (Danger:Very Toxic)

He also had a Mac Plus (Platinum1987) shell that he was planning to cut the bottom out of and wear it on his head so he could go out for Halloween as a "Mac Head". I was able to talk him into giving it to me so I could swap the internals of the trashed Mac Plus into this case.

It came with an Apple Hard Disk 20SC external SCSI HD. The Hard Drive, named 'jasmyn', contained Excel 2.2, Word 4.0, MacWrite II and AwardMaker+.

I swapped-out the internals into the empty shell and later this Mac was the subject of my Retrobright video. However, the floppy never worked properly, and swapping in a working floppy drive would only cause it to render that drive non-functional. I quickly gave up sacrificing floppy drives to this MacPlus.

I had a Macintosh SE (who was traded to me for something, and has now been traded back to it's original owner) that had parts of its top melted some too. I supposed it was possibly due to being stuck next to a hot lamp, maybe like a banker's one from back in the day. But yeah, not sure otherwise how it would have happened. It was worse than that Plus though.
